Oh really? How do you know he is lying? Do you know more about that meeting than the reports say? That 3.2B figure not only is just an estimate, it's a figure from March! Not only that but the deal is not even fucking closed "The planes are too expensive, and we're going to get the prices down, and if we don't get the prices down, we're not going to order them," and “We’re trying to get costs down, costs,” Trump told reporters Wednesday after the meetings, Bloomberg reported. “Primarily the F-35. That program is very, very expensive.”. There's no comment about the 4B being false, it's just conjecture on your part. If there is, just post it here.
News outlets including Yahoo claim that the cost will remain $3.2 Billion and many other news sources refer to it as the $3.2 billion dollar plane. Maybe I just don't understand government estimates, but a $800,000,000 margin of error (20%) just seems unreasonable compared to the possibility that Trump is mistaken or outright lying given his history of lying and manipulation.
The bottom line is that they made a proposal where Trump said it was too expensive so now they are having meetings to find a more common ground. You're grasping at straws and confusing your personal beliefs with facts.
Which "personal beliefs" am I confusing with facts?
I guess that's a good thing, as long as they aren't cutting corners (if cutting corners on Air Force One is possible) Is there a bigger issue I'm missing here though?
I work in the aviation industry and near me is MTU, where they overhaul Air Force One engines when their times up. MTU is very good. Infact so good, that when the US had an American company overhaul AFO engine, it failed. Hard. You can always tell when MTU has AFO engine in 'cus there's a bunch of marines around, but they can't have their guns in Canada lol.
So you have no proof is what you are saying. It's even in your own source: "While only a small fraction of the total cost has been accounted for so far in the procurement process, the entire program likely will cost about $3.2 billion through fiscal 2020, the U.S. Government Accountability Office estimated in March. " Finally, all of this is pretty much irrelevant since he hasn't even accepted that 3.2B figure like you seem to assume.
Firstly, the "only a small fraction of the total cost has been accounted for" refers to the ~$200 million research contract that Boeing was granted for the plane. It's in the article. Secondly, I'm aware that likely doesn't mean "DEFINITELY 100%", but jesus dude it's proof that the jets might cost $3.8 billion.
The line about your personal beliefs seems to be pretty self-explanatory, your witch-hunt-like attitude against any action Trump makes you confused about what facts are
Oh my god dude. Any trump action? I'm pretty sure I praised him on the Carrier plant deal before it turned out to be shit. Can't think of much other things I praised him for because most articles about Trump have been rightfully negative towards him. If you can find me another thread that I unrightfully shat on Trump for doing something good, then I will admit that I have this "witch-hunt-like attitude"
- and the facts in this particular case is that he doesn't want those planes at that cost and he still hasn't accepted anything. If he does accept those planes at a +3.2B cost then you will be proven right but for now there are more pressing issues than trying to stop a private contractor from overcharging.
I'm assuming you meant something else from that last statement because private contractors overcharging is an issue. Saying it isn't kinda helps me. Let's play situational argument. If Boeing is actually trying to push a $4 billion dollar plane, then shame on them. If Boeing isn't actually trying to push a $4 billion dollar plane, then shame on Trump.
