Want a prime example on why there's few women in the video game industry? then take a gander at the first few Tomb Raider games.
There's a certain pattern going on, and I'm not talking about the graphics improving with each game.
Except the latest one is breaking said pattern.
Can you guess what that pattern is?

Was that in the article and I missed it? I must have missed it if so, I just use guy as a catch all term.
edit: anyway it seems like we're pretty much on the same page with this, just that you have some doubts about the cause and scale of the problem?
In general, yes. I acknowledge that discrimination is a problem, but I do not think there is yet enough evidence to suggest whether discrimination is causing things like the gender gap in the videogames industry, or whether it is something else. I merely would like to see the issue probed further, I do not want it to be attributed to sexism if there is a chance it isn't, nor do I want it to be dismissed as not sexism, if there is a chance that it is.
I am also skeptical of claims of sexism, but so too am I skeptical of claims of there being no sexism. I would just rather decisions were made based off of hard facts rather than speculation or pet theory. And that there is acknowledgement of biases existing, in both genders.

I definitely agree with that, but unfortunately it's too ideal to be practical. I definitely don't think sexism is absolutely rampant in the gaming industry like some pundits might suggest, but the problem is that the industry is perceived as being rampantly sexist. In this case, perception (public and professional) is everything.
The average gamer you're likely to meet is probably going to be pleasant enough, but it's the loudmouths that get all the attention. To use a cliche, a few bad apples are spoiling the bunch, and it's enough of an issue that the general public still hasn't overcome it. So, while it would be nice for this matter to be looked at in a 100% objective view...it just won't work. Not yet anyway.

Well possibly that too...
I really think it's just that women aren't interested (whether from the sexism or other factors ) in the videogame industry; or even much of the tech industry either.
And the same applies to Engineering, we've had huge HUGE grants and tons of encouragement for more women to go into Engineering, but the numbers have only increased marginally; I think the contributing factor also plays into the Tech industry, and that's that women just don't care.
And the cause (in my opinion) is the way we treat women these days; It's cute to be an airhead, and just facebook 24/7 to their "guurl friends".

But isn't it the same with men? Geeks and Nerds are ridiculed while Footballers and Actors are worshipped.
Most men don't go into game servers and state that they are a guy unless if they were asked, though.
most "guys" that enter a server don't have to be harassed after speaking on voice chat because of their gender
"50% of women make up those who play video games"
I don't know what this has to do with it, if we go by that logic we need more women in construction jobs because women use buildings.
Force women to do everything
omg fucking attention whore fuck you

I regularly play online competitive games with a girl gamer and I've never seen this shit. Most guys actually spill hilarious amounts of spaghetti when they realize they're playing with/against a woman.
Here are some good articles to read:

the last one especially, for salary figures
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't wage inequality an issue with.. well, pretty much every single industry in the world? Game industry is not the cause of the issue, and it's no exception to the issue. Singling out the game industry for wage inequality is pointless, especially considering how few people it employs.
Why not focus less on making women work in the games industry and more on why more don't want to work in the games industry.

That is just as bad. People should not care that much
