• Romney: We Should Raise the Minimum Wage
When I was a young lad of sixteen, my father explained the negative aspects of raising minimum wage. Imagine for a moment that you are a freshmen in High School, attempting to obtain a job for some extra dosh. A small business is like "Well we'd pay you five bucks an hour to sweep the floors." Although it wouldn't be hard for the owner to do it himself, it does not hurt his income to hire you. But with a higher minimum wage, the owner would be far less likely to hire someone as they would have to be paid far more for a me menial task. This is the problem with raising minimum wage.
If the company can't afford to hire people without paying a liveable wage (let alone a slightly higher minimum, because I seriously doubt you're going to see a living wage in the US for a while), the company has other problems it should attend to first. Namely the lack of profit currently. It suggests the company either needs restructuring in some way or to change how it operates a bit. This isn't a fault of a (reasonable) minimum wage, it's a problem with badly run business. Hopefully the increased wage would allow for more spending in these business, rather than the bigger chains that make record profits every year.
"I think it ought to be raised" Minimum wage becomes $8.01
"I think it ought to be raised" Minimum wage becomes $8.01
76 cents higher than it is now..
Mitt Romney should just run under the tagline "I will do whatever the internet trends tell me to" he'd probably get more votes for being honest about his campaign strategy
