Arcade Fire makes "~EdGY" comment against Deadmau5 and other artists at Coachella

I'm SO fucking sick of these artists pissing on each other.
Artists are supposed to respect each other. They don't have to like each other, just give some fucking respect.
These assholes are turning electronic music culture into a shit flinging competition.
Fuck them.
arcade fire is really good imo but their latest album was pretty mediocre
my brother once commented that arcade fire has been really full of themselves after the suburbs. still doesn't make their music any less appealing to me, though.
Is anyone even surprised? Music producers are some of the whiniest people in the world.
Wah, he stole my sample. Baww, such and such is a jerk for saying whatever. Stop moaning and play the shit already. It's what people go for. Not to listen to you talk shit about each other.
Personally I don't think Reflektor was their best, I preferred their previous album 'The Suburbs':

I much preferred Reflektor, suburbs bored me for some reason. I loved black mirror and funeral too, but suburbs was not my cup of tea.
Rock and rap are dead as far as leading pop music goes. It's all about electronics and DJs from here on out. Singers will only be used by DJs and producers to fill out tracks. Singers won't drive the music, the music will drive them.
Rockers in particular are funny when they talk about 'play your own instruments' as if they didn't know that there are a whole bunch of classically trained musicians who don't think an electric guitar is a musical instrument.
not really, although I do agree that electronic is influencing almost every genre right now, it will never completely replace the need for live artists.
I like electronic music too to an extent, but it doesn't quite compare to other genres live at least, in my opinion. I find raves and electronic shows fun, but it's a totally different experience from the intimacy you get from a indie shows at small venues etc.
bands like Arcade Fire and Vampire Weekend aren't just 'hipster' music anymore though, both of them are doing arena tours and such. I'm surprised that more people haven't heard of Arcade Fire at least, because they've broken into the 'mainstream' you could say, but facepunch doesn't seem like the biggest hub for indie music (see: the music section and lack of any indie there)
but as people Arcade Fire come across as pretentious. I remember for their LA show they did that whole thing where they wanted to enforce a dress code for people attending, like make it a black tie event or something. Which sounds kind of cool, but trying to enforce that is just ridiculous.

funeral is the best imo. I remember the first time listening to that album, wish I could do that again

yeah I remember looking at tickets for a show and it said to dress formally and I was like wtf this is essentially a rock concert not a show at carnegie hall
arcade fire are typical non-british indie
ie they're boring

Maybe that's what he does but he really can't speak for everyone. Like really. Real electronic music live performances are an art in themselves and take a lot of thought and effort. Here's some artists who put a lot of effort into their live performances.
Four Tet's a crazy genius and every time he does something live, it's a total mix up of the album version:

Simian Mobile Disco showing you intricately how their performances work and it's a lot more than just pressing play. If they're making it seem relatively simple, that's just because they really know what they're doing.

The sound quality is pretty awful here, but you get a really good look at how much work he's doing to make this music:

This is really impressive. They've got a caravan full of kit, two guitars, and they make some incredible sounds out of it.

Frankly, the way Deadmau5 talks about this stuff, it sounds like he doesn't actually know what he's talking about, he's got such a weird attitude to live performing and this blog post only supported the views of people like this Arcade Fire guy and did bad things for the general view that people who make electronic music are just playing with some buttons on a laptop which is an embarrassingly common view point.
People who express their opinions are assholes. Who does that. Win you disappoint me. Keep your opinions to yourself, no matter how true or untrue they are. No one likes opinions.
Um. He can express his opinion if he really wants to, my opinion is that this opinion makes him an asshole and, as you pointed out with your sarcasm, I can express that as much as I want. Fuck yeah I love opinions. My other opinion is that this was a dumb line in your post. Go opinions!
Seriously pulling a 'ITS HIS OPINYUN!!' is as big a moot point as you can get.

They actually don't look very similar, it's just they have the same expression of being dead inside.
you'd think this arcade fire guy as someone at least somewhat successful in the music industry would understand what a DJ is

can't believe I actually liked Deadmau5 once
Arcade Fire is equally shit
live electronic performance =/= a dj
why do i have to fucking say this in every somewhat electronic music related thread
people go to a concert to enjoy music with other like minded people, is that hard to understand?
Did you just miss the whole fuss over the Red Hot Chili Peppers having their guitars unplugged at the Superbowl? Maybe you're fine with just listening to the music with others, but a lot of people go to see musicians play live to see the musicians play live and it matters when they're just pretending to play along to a pre-recorded set.
Allow me to get up the definition of music for you.
"an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color"
Like it or not, its Music. Infact alot of things can count as music as long as you factor in rhythm.
That guy tapping his knee on the train? Music.
I swear though, people stuck in their own head like this guy need to be more open minded.
Respect your EDM brethren for fucks sake because there is alot of heart and effort there.
to be honest I agree with him. Sorry to everyone who is a fan of electronic music, I love a lot of it too, but to be honest it's just not impressive at all when people just hit a button and they maybe mix a few things here are there. I both make music through a program and through instruments, and I can say playing a song live with instruments is just a completely other skillset that takes lots of practice and focus and I feel I get my moneys worth when I see skilled musicians actually play their music live, not when some guy just hits a few buttons here and there.
I do however have much respect to the electronic musicians who actually do really perform their work live, where it's much more than pressing a button and there is a lot of active things you have to do and keyboard playing, and improvisation and such. Those kinds of shows are fucking awesome, but I don't really know a lot of mainstream electronic musicians like deadmouse who really do that.
I know I will probably get some flak for that, but I just can't defend people who barely do anything on stage.
Deadmau5 is full of crap. Even to someone doing a simple DJ set, there's so much more to it than he makes it sound like there is. You can't just put anything on and make a crowd enjoy themselves, you have to carefully pick each tune based on how well the crowd is responding to them, make sure they mix well, change the EQ constantly to make the most out of every drop and change, if you're using real physical decks, you've got to match the tempo between tunes perfectly which is crazy hard and takes a load of practice unless you want each mix to sound like a horrible mess, there's loads of cool effects you can use.
When you see them mess around with nobs and dials and buttons, funnily enough, they're actually doing something, not pretending like Deadmau5 says he does.
There's this massive fallacy that DJs aren't really doing anything and it's simply a load of shit. A good DJ is a very talented person.

Please just understand that electronic music is not a single genre or style. Electronic can mean almost anything, its just a production method.

This. Electronic music is practically limitless since you're not confined to having to produce sounds using premade physical instruments that've been around sometimes for centuries - but you can if you want to.
Too bad neither of them can calm the fuck down and think before they speak.
From the same article in OP...
In 2012, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl used his Grammy acceptance speech for Best Rock album to speak out seemingly against electronic music. "To me, this award means a lot, because it shows the human element of music is what's important," he said. "Singing into a microphone and learning to play an instrument and learning to do your craft, that's the most important thing for people to do. . . . It's not about being perfect, it's not about sounding absolutely correct, it's not about what goes on in a computer." That same night, Foo Fighters performed on the award show with Deadmau5, David Guetta and Lil Wayne for a tribute to electronic music.
Grohl later released a statement to show support for electronic music. "I love ALL kinds of music. From Kyuss to Kraftwerk, Pinetop Perkins to Prodigy, Dead Kennedys to Deadmau5.....I love music. Electronic or acoustic, it doesn't matter to me. The simple act of creating music is a beautiful gift that ALL human beings are blessed with. And the diversity of one musician's personality to the next is what makes music so exciting and.....human."
Dave Grohl knows how to get his point across and not piss off everyone in the process.

I think its important we have both "traditional" and electronic music. A world with only one or the other would be boring. I agree with him.
Sorry, but who the fuck are Arcade Fire? :v:
I like how everyone's completely missing the joke here.
(Arcade Fire did a thing ages back during a music festival with a "Who The Fuck Is Arcade Fire" slogan)

my boy Gold Panda. amazing artist with beautiful tunes.
why people even use this "omg all they do is press play button" dumb argument against electronic music, has everyone for some reason forgot that the music has to be written first, and that kinda takes skill and talent?
you're not taking into account the difference between creating music and doing a live show. plenty of artists get paid ludicrous amounts of money to literally stand on a stage doing basically nothing to the rhythm of a recording they previously made.
I write and record music which I eventually intend to do as a profession, and I heavily rely on computer software to get my work written and recorded, which is why live performances will never be a part of what I do.
Still my favourite song from them

Music is subjective, blah blah blah, everybody shut up. Even if you objectively state that the amount of effort you put into the music determines it's greatness, that is still merely your subjective set of ideas. Arcade fire was a dick, everybody makes music, the end.
