Clinton: Half of Trump's Supporters are a "Basket of Deplorables"
The man wants to bring Tarriffs back.
Yeah, that is disastrous for the US economy no matter how you cut it.
The TPP is seeing wide spread dropping of support world wide. Clinton has dropped her support, I don't trust her on that but she has publicly done so.
Trump has 0 policies of merit, they all seem throw away and half baked.

it's really anything to dodge the issues isn't it wystan
You mean the tariffs on the Chinese goods? A defense technique against an industry that can achieve much lower prices?
Not only there are precedents that had very successful results in the past, the current situation in China is very difficult. Right now, China can literally steal IP from other countries and avoid many environmental and job security regulations, which allows for much lower prices.
Why are you saying it would be disastrous to the US economy? I can see some downsides but I don't see it being disastrous, let alone irreversible (which disastrous implies).
Never heard that even on the internet
The main focus of most people who want equality is that poverty is the cause of all of our issues
but you know what, sure, we'll run with your reality.
I've seen it too actually. I've taken an unequal america class which separated social from economic inequality, implying that the former doesn't arise almost entirely from the latter. It was particularly amusing since the professor said he was something of a marxist when I talked to him in private, and (its anecdotal but) a common left liberal line right now is that we must deal with the race question to get to the class question, which is the inversion of Malcolm x and the old, marxist left.
You need to separate the new left of the 60s which is liberal and rooted in culture war, from the old left which is more class based
Whatever you say. Lets just think about it this way
You're disparaging me right now, for having the audacity to remember that some months back, you insulted me out right, and now, I'm the lesser person for having remembered what you've done?
Are you sure you're not just taking this out of the Trump handbook of how to avoid responsibility for things you've said or done?
You think this is disparaging? You're as sensitive as Trump, maybe you two have more in common than you realize? At the risk of getting off topic I'm going to leave this conversation, see in you in the next thread pal.
http://bigthink.com/cue-the-future/chinese-import-tariffs-are-a-bad-idea
That seems hardly disastrous and a lot of conjecture.
For every 10% rise in Chinese imports in a firms industry, there was: a 3.2% increase in patent filing, a 3.6% increase in IT spending, and a 12% increase in R&D
As a nation, we should be accepting this challenge, and fighting to innovate more and shift more of our workforce to knowledge work.
I don't find the study but correlation doesn't mean causation, which I'm not sure they addressed. So, there's no grantee that increasing patent filing or R&D are due to the 10% rise in Chinese imports or simply due to other factors that rose both of them up.
In any case, those increases don't mean more job security and better quality of life, while tariffs can have a more direct impact on those.
Also, what's the point of increasing patents and R&D if they can use all of it too? With lower prices and the ability to ignore IP related lawsuits, it seems likely for them to get ahead long-term.
In 1954 the same court decided that Paragraph 175a in contrast to Paragraph 175 did not presuppose acts tantamount to sexual intercourse. Lewdness (Unzucht) was defined as any act that is performed to arouse sexual excitement and "violates the moral sentiment of our workers." A revision of the criminal code in 1957 made it possible to put aside prosecution of an illegal action that represented no danger to socialist society because of lack of consequence. This removed Paragraph 175 from the effective body of the law, because at the same time the East Berlin Court of Appeal (Kammergericht) decided that all punishments deriving from the old form of Paragraph 175 should be suspended due to the insignificance of the acts to which it had been applied. On this basis, homosexual acts between consenting adults ceased to be punished, beginning in the late 1950s.
Gay social clubs and groups were allowed to organize themselves freely, so long as they made tenuous links with Protestant Churches. This was because the official position of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany party was to outlaw discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, but to otherwise ignore that LGBT relationships existed. On July 1, 1968, the GDR adopted its own code of criminal law. In it § 151 StGB-DDR provided for a sentence up to three years' imprisonment or probation for an adult (18 and over) who engaged in sexual acts with a youth (under 18) of the same sex. This law applied not only to men who have sex with boys but equally to women who have sex with girls. According to historian Heidi Minning, attempts by lesbians and gay men in East Germany to establish a visible community were "thwarted at every turn by the G.D.R. government and SED party." She writes:
Police force was used on numerous occasions to break up or prevent public gay and lesbian events. Centralized censorship prevented the presentation of homosexuality in print and electronic media, as well as the import of such materials.[3]
In the late 1980s, the East German government opened a state-owned gay disco in Berlin. In 1987, the age of consent was equalized for same-sex intercourse in East Germany. On August 11, 1987 the Supreme Court of the GDR struck down a conviction under Paragraph 151 on the basis that "homosexuality, just like heterosexuality, represents a variant of sexual behavior. Homosexual people do therefore not stand outside socialist society, and the civil rights are warranted to them exactly as to all other citizens." One year later, the Volkskammer (the parliament of the GDR), in its fifth revision of the criminal code, brought the written law in line with what the court had ruled, striking Paragraph 151 without replacement. The act passed into law May 30, 1989. This removed all specific reference to homosexuality from East German criminal law. In 1989, the German film titled "Coming Out" directed by Heiner Carow was exhibited on the night that the Berlin wall came down, and tells a story of an East German man coming to accept his own homosexuality, with much of it shot in the local gay bars. This was the only East German LGBT rights film.
homosexuals in communist states had to fight for their rights just as they did in the west. if you think communism will magically fix sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia without specific movements against those oppressions you quite literally have another thing coming

You're describing me remembering something as me being "Bothered" by it, and describing it accurately. You called me less than normal for remembering something that happened 5 months ago.
Sorry that your memory doesn't go back that far. Mine does. I have an excellent memory. Bite me.

It really takes a special person to turn "I insulted you, and you remembered it" into "you're abnormal for remembering I insulted you".
What a laugh
Is this an actual thing? Furries for Trump? I thought it was a personal jab at myself
If I'm being honest I also thought it was a personal jab at you as well. Nobody should be mocked for being a furry.
i mean you should be mocked relentlessly for being a trump support until the end of time and i'll always remember it and you'll never escape from it
But who cares about whether someone is a furry or not.
... also saying people "don't get bothered about forum posts on the internet" is a laughable assertion. Insults and words over the internet do have power if you know the person saying them. I can't say much for everyone else but I had an meltdown when one of my 'friends' on a site turned out to be an asswipe and it took me a while to get over it.
So I don't think HumanAbyssis is being unreasonable.

The USSR under Lenin de facto legalized homosexuality, no fault divorce, criminalized anti-semitism and racism, etc. He was influenced by old left feminists like alexandra kollontai and conceded he was an old man on these social matters
This is in russia of all places and done at the same time the president of the usa was watching birth of a nation. We were already ahead of SJWs, the only thing that changed is we got the student based new left instead of workers, and this has contributed to the white working class going to the right and nationalism in the form of brexit and trum
Ultimately the 60s solved nothing because the new left sucked so much and set the stage for what we're dealing with because now the left and the cultural war is institutionalized. So suddenly trump and brexit is legitimately anti-establishment

The furry thing confused me. Archangel said that Trump appeals to degenerates and yet he and I are in the same boat. I try to keep my personal interests out of politics where possible, like one normally has nothing to do with the other.
this election has been about making the other side seem like nazis. if clinton is elected we are gonna see every baby be aborted, blacks mow down police without a care, religions will become regulated by the state, and the military will be disbanded.
i mean thats at least the vibe on the right, the left has something similar, though since a lot of civil rights and climate progress has been through executive action its not totally far-fetched
yeah I agree you should kill yourself. Billymays too.

I don't understand what furriness has to do with this debate, though I will point out that when furry legalisation eventually comes at some point, I'd expect that Clinton would be more likely to support it other than Trump.
It will be the great battle of our times, in 20 or 30 years time.

I just assume that Kellyanne Conway is constantly putting his phone on airplane mode when he's not looking, in order to stop him from sending out any dumb tweets, and whenever he manages to figure out how to turn it off the world is blessed with a taco bowl tweet or something similar.
The Russian Communist Inessa Armand publicly endorsed both feminism and free love, but never directly dealt with LGBT rights.[9] Through the abolishment of old Tsarist laws, the Russian Communist Party effectively legalized no-fault divorce, abortion and homosexuality. The initial Russian Soviet criminal code contained no criminalization of homosexuality as the subject was omitted.[10]
yeah you're right about that. then immediately after...
The Soviet Union sent delegates to the German Institute for Sexual Science, as well as to some international conferences on human sexuality, who expressed support for the legalization of adult, private, and consensual homosexual relations. However, in the 1930s, along with increased repression of political dissidents and non-Russian nationalities[citation needed] under Stalin, LGBT themes faced official government censorship, and a uniformly harsher policy across the entire Soviet Union. Homosexuality was officially labelled a disease.[13] The official stance could be summarized in the article of the Great Soviet Encyclopedia of 1930 written by medical expert Sereisky:
Soviet legislation does not recognize so-called crimes against morality. Our laws proceed from the principle of protection of society and therefore countenance punishment only in those instances when juveniles and minors are the objects of homosexual interest ... while recognizing the incorrectness of homosexual development ... our society combines prophylactic and other therapeutic measures with all the necessary conditions for making the conflicts that afflict homosexuals as painless as possible and for resolving their typical estrangement from society within the collective
—Sereisky, Great Soviet Encyclopedia, 1930, p. 593
I don't know why so many Trump supporters are outraged over this, it seems like she is doing exactly what they like about Trump: saying it like it is, and even if it's politically incorrect, it's still the truth

Assuming it's 50/50 right now and Clinton said half of his supporters, this just tells me that Trump doesn't understand math (50% of 50 is 25 duh) and is relying on the average intelligence of his supporters to see the word "half" and instantly hop on the bandwagon.

Literally JUST read through this thread and I find far more caustic shit in other peoples mouths than my own here.
It's sarcasm and jokes when Trump posters make fun of me, and have done so for months, but it's super serious business when I toss anything their way?
I asked questions asking for explanations, and reasonings for the vast majority of this thread.
[editline]10th September 2016[/editline]
I see the desire to focus on me, and my "intent" more than I do on the policy, or promises of the candidate. I brought up several things he's said and done with serious questions about why people think what they think. Radio silence, instead, we'd rather tool the conversation to "Humanabyss is a meany" yeah no shit I'm not a nice person, look at my name. I'd rather we talk about the issues, than myself though, because I don't matter. Trump does.
It should also be noted, that outside of you I've interacted with every poster in this thread at least once in the nearly 10 years I've been here. Chances are, more frequently in the last few months.
I try to be respectful in these threads, people have a reason behind their actions so getting mad at someone is just unproductive. I'm controversial sometimes but if people start battling each other then people stop focusing on the topic in the OP, and perhaps worse is that people just stop listening to each other.
#basketofdeplorables is nearing 1million tweets. Clinton really hurt herself with this one and I would expect to see it brought up in the 1st debate on the 26th. We won't see how this affects the polls until a few days have passed, but I don't see how this could've helped her numbers.

What hurt her is apologizing. She either should have completely walked back the statement or double-downed. At least with the latter she can show up to the debate and point to polling data that shows that a major chunk of Trump supporters hold racist, homophobic, or xenophobic views.
