I've been pretty out of the loop with Facepunch's opinion of Man of Steel. Hell, I don't even know what the "popular" opinion of it is. All I know is that I went to see it with my dad and a couple of friends, and we couldn't help but laugh at how dumb it was and how it tried so hard to be serious but failed miserably.
"Welcome to the planet."
Heh, I don't mind it. Would prefer a Justice League movie first though.
Wait what? Why?
Worlds Finest existed for years, there was even a two part episode in the DCAU that if i recall was really good involving the two teaming up, called "Worlds Finest"
I mean yeah it depends on how its done, but why are you freaking out at the idea? Its been done before.
Because they just started the Superman franchise, and already they're putting the two together.
Man of Steel Superman needs his own franchise, not a crossover for the second film. It would be like if they put Hawkman in The Dark Knight, it wouldn't make any sense. Could you imagine Nolan's joker fighting Wonder Woman?
if they used a different batman and superman it might be ok, but mos superman was awful.
Yep, in Justice League: Doom. Pairing these two up works incredibly well, it's just kind of hard to explain. Go watch World's Finest, Public Enemies, and Apocalypse and you'll see what I mean.
Wow, I never noticed that second one... That's really subtle. Thanks!
I enjoy fun, entertaining, mindless superhero movies so I'll watch this too.

not to mention that metropolis is obliterated, but in the end it's alright because superman kisses lois lane.
They'll have to make a new Batman for this. I don't think Nolan's Batman would work with Superman.

That's why Superman and Batman make such a great duo. They're foils of each other and complement the other because of it.

We've known this since 2007 when this was found in I am legend when Will Smith was hunting in Time Square.
YES!
Even though my opinion probably never reached Warner Bro execs, I advised before that they do a batman/superman team up film before they straight into the justice league.
Also, don't dog on batman. In the comics, he's over come superior foes and he's bad ass in his own way by doing sneaky genius shit behind the scenes. Yeah, Superman could pound Batman into tomato paste in the blink of an eye, but Batman is the kind of character that will stand along side with Superman as an equal, unafraid.
Going to enjoy how they try and cover how batman or any other super hero didnt come to help superman when the world was about to be destroyed.
With the marvel films they kept the action in a reculsed place and wasnt world threatning, which made each marvel characters story recluse. And when the world was in threat, thus avengers movie.
Superman on the otherhand just went for a "whole world is about to be destroyed, go save it" which makes you think "where the hell are the other super heroes, such as batman to help the earth out?".
DC should of done a Marvel, kept the story recluse and then had a world threatning power cause the justice league to be formed.
Its going to really russel my jimmies till they explain the reasoning why no super hero came to help. Another thing that really bugged me in man of steel, was the whole of metropolis being destroyed, one week later its fixed. It take about 15years+ for that to be repaired....

My guess is Superman was the first Superhero, maybe with the exception of Batman, but the first with powers anyway, in this universe.

My guess is Superman helped with reconstruction.
My memory isn't the sharpest in this regard, but didn't the "Earth is being actively destroyed" part of Superman's movie play out within the span of a couple hours one afternoon? If Batman was already active in this particular timeline, and it wasn't concurrent with times where he's utterly isolated from the outside world a la Rising, the event could have been over before he even got all the stuff he'd need to examine the terraforming device packed.
Batman would have seen Zod's message like everyone else with seemingly any form of electronics.
I didn't think the Man of Steel was that bad.
But then again, this is FP where everybody is supercritical about everything and nothing is good unless it's Valve.
FP's movie consensus is even worse than IMDB
Yeah, but Zod wasn't actually doing much quite yet. A fairly consistent trait with modern incarnations of Batman in the DC universe is that he really, really hates leaving his own turf or having other heroes step onto his. He'd probably keep an eye on the matter, but Superman actually showing up and accepting Zod's terms would probably also let Bruce file it under "Not my problem" until the terraforming device touched down.
If only everyone realized how retarded Baleman was. Karl Urban for True Batman 2015
Oh my god, Urban would be pretty cool. He can do normal and angry (Dredd) voice pretty well so they wouldn't make him do that stupid voice from Nolan's trilogy.
Batman is also a master tactician and one of the smartest men in the DC universe.
[editline]20th July 2013[/editline]
In the comics he's come up with countermeasures against the entire Justice League that have been found and used against them and nearly killed them all, if im right.
He's gone up against Darkseid and won (or at least forced him into a stalemate, if not checkmate,) simply because he planned ahead and outsmarted him.
I thought Captain Marvel was the first famous superhero.
Wait, what? Superman came first and Captain Marvel 'copied' the Man of Steel. He was famous sure but no way did Captain Marvel take the title of 'World's first famous Superhero'.
The Super Man movie was goddamn terrible. This is probably going to be even worse.

I could've sworn Captain Marvel was a year before Superman. I guess I'm wrong.
I could've sworn Captain Marvel was a year before Superman. I guess I'm wrong.
Yeah man, Superman debuted in 1938 and Captain Marvel debuted in 1940.
Honestly I'm kind of worried about this.
My answer to "Who would win in a fight, Batman or Superman?" is "They wouldn't fight - they're best friends". They're polar opposites yet their differences come together to make a great crime-fighting team. You should have a basis for a fun team-up movie.
Now comes the bad signs.
Apparently this is borrowing heavily from The Dark Knight Returns (the quote and the Bat-logo). Now TDKR is a fantastic comic, but the characterization is pretty nonstandard - Batman is determined to the point of being a fascistic sociopath, and Superman is reduced to a governmental puppet. There's a famous fight in there and it's still considered one of the best Bat-books out there.
Also, Batman is far more popular than Superman at this point. The Dark Knight Trilogy was incredibly successful, Batman's had several popular TV shows for about a decade now, DC's "Superman/Batman" comic was recently relaunched as "Batman/Superman"... the list goes on. Just ask your buddies on Facebook who would win in a fight - they'll probably say that badass Batman could beat up that lame old-fashioned big blue Boy Scout. Even though Superman has won pretty much every fight (even that famous TDKR one) people love that victorious Batman.
Also Goyer is writing the script - not exactly a man known for lighthearted fun.
I'd like to say that I trust DC to turn out a quality product, but I'm just not feeling it yet. I was hoping for a World's Finest movie (especially before the fabled Justice League) but I am worried.
[editline]lel[/editline]
should we make a Film and Television thread for this? I can do it.
Corndog Ninja, make a thread in film and television.
[sp]Superman destroys Batman...even with kryptonite. Well, that would happen if dumb writers didn't meddle with Superman[/sp]
Yeah, no doubt Batman is the more popular character right now. Although, I don't know about that non-comic fan friends thing. Most of them would say: Wouldn't Superman just like, drop the moon on him? Or spin back time?
