Cop seriously injurs himself when protecting himself from a vicious animal, winner!
It's obvious that the dog was attacking his legs if he accidentally shoots himself in the foot. If he was just shooting a dog for the fun of it it wouldn't have been so close to him he had to aim towards his feet. But forget any logical reasoning, all dogs are cute puppies with big beady eyes and couldn't even hurt a fly, forget entirely about german shepards and pitbulls and other big dogs who can easily kill you if you're unarmed. Those things are just imagination and mumbo-jumbo made up by anti-dog extremists to make people fear dogs. Winner winner!
You all realise that tazers are a very idiotic alternative due to their potential to kill just people just as dead as a handgun, right? They're also a one-shot-only thing which only puts officers at larger risk for them to be harmed.
Obviously this situation was full of bad decisions but please don't be a person that makes one just as bad and cry for tazers.
Tazers very rarely kill people, especially compared to getting shot with a handgun. Do your research.
It sucks how much pit bulls get a bad rap. They're genuinely very sweet, docile dogs when raised properly.
Tell drug dealers to stop raising them as horrible, bloodthirsty killers. I remember going to some guys house whose uncle was on his second strike (3rd and he was getting locked away for a long time) and was still dealing weed. He had the two meanest pitbulls I've ever seen in my life to "guard" his house. Just locked up on the porch to scare the shit out of you with their growling, snarling and lunging.
And they are such adorable and sweet dogs if raised properly, but assholes just seem to flock to them.
Means the cop had the safety off and drew with his finger on the trigger. Combined with the desired action, he deserves more than he got.
Yes, they fail elsewhere too. But they fail especially in California.
I wonder if that's because there are more cops in California than any other state...
Turns out the policeman was the dog after all.

They're strong, well built dogs, thats like, common knowledge.

Exactly, this is why I've been campaigning to get all police lethal weapons and less-than-lethal weapons to be replaced with less-than-less-than-lethal airsoft guns and airsoft tasers

He is cute as fuck
That has to be the most biased blog I've ever read. It doesn't matter that the dog was shown playing with kids, when you step into a dog's territory they're going to attack.
Edited:
Rate me disagree all you want, it doesn't change the fact that these dogs are bred to be territorial.
Tazers aren't a guaranteed stop, you only get one shot with them, and you've got to be fairly close to use them.
Why don't they make semi-auto tazers
Why don't they make semi-auto tazers
They already made shotgun shells with tazers inside, so that's a pretty good question.

I always hear about how totally harmless and cute and cuddly pit bulls are from pit bull owners and how they'd never hurt a fly
and then on the news comes the reports of someone getting mauled by a dog and it's almost invariably a pitbull or some other violent dog breed that people are always trying to defend
pit bulls are violent. they were bred to be violent. they are different than other dogs in that they are much more likely to attack. get over it
Yes, they fail elsewhere too. But they fail especially in California.
I've heard the same for Detroit, Florida, Toronto, L.A, etc. There are incompetent police officers everywhere.
Wow.. lol
Can you image what would happen if the poor officer got BIT!? God forbid he gets a scratch, better try to shoot the damn thing!
ummm dog bites are a lot more dangerous than a little scratch
but hey he should just let himself get mauled, if it'd save the dog! shoot to wound!!!!
god forbid you think for once

Is there anything that lead you to this conclusion other than the news stories you see on tv and the internet?

Blame the owner, you schmuck.
You only ever hear about dogs doing bad shit because when dogs behave and act normal, thats not news.

You know guns are holstered pointing down, right?
There are very few situations where killing a dog is necessary, most of the time this happen is due to some heartless asshole who'd rather kill a living being than deal with problems properly
Reminded me of a video I've seen a while back.
Note: Do not watch this unless you want it to ruin your day

This is so typical of what is happening these days. HUNDREDS of dogs are being shot and killed by trigger happy cops who pull out their gun FIRST instead of their taser, mace or pepper spray. That's why dog lovers across the U.S. are pushing their legislators to pass "Don't Shoot My Dog" laws like the one recently passed in CO.
And if this idiot killed the dog, he'd be on paid vacation AKA "administrative leave" while the PD Internal Investigation raced to exonerate him and call the killing "justified."
Honestly this post seems pretty honest to god a good summery
[del]albeit you must shoot to kill when it comes to dogs as tasers and mace won't work with them, but still.[/del] corrected nevermind :V:

Where did you hear this load of bullshit
(ironically in this video the fist cop is just about to shoot the dog when the other tases him)
You know guns are holstered pointing down, right?
So if it was holstered it was an accident and he wasn't even trying to shoot the dog, is that what you are trying to say? If it discharged because he left it with safety off in his holster he had it coming.

I'm sure he was pulling out his gun just to show it to the dog.
finally, proof that cops can just shoot them in the leg

do you know how short sighted you sound? How ignorant you are? The dogs are not bred to be violent. To be aggressive. Dogs are not inherently one way or the other. They're trained to be vicious or violent or to be friendly and passive.
But of course, because you saw it on the news, it's a fact.
Regardless the safety of the gun, if you had an unkown dog charging at you and you are unsure of what it wants, but it is barking and it's dashing towards you and you had a gun, what would you do? If I had a gun I would pull and shoot. It may not be big like a german shepard, but it's sizeable enough to be a serious threat.

it was behind a fence
do you shoot dogs that aren't a threat to you even if they're coming in your direction?
do you even do a threat analysis or do you just go "OH DOGS COMING THIS WAY KILL IT"
