Good. Cops who kill innocent dogs are scum and pussies.
I understand shooting in certain situations, but a tazer is a better alternative imo.
You just had to bring Tazers into it didn't you.
On Miss: Hit yourself. Idiot.

pit bulls are violent
Mine isn't. Sorry for blowing your fact out of the water c:
To be fair, dogs can be extremely dangerous and unpredictable.
It's hard to tell if they're about to attack and a lot of the people police deal with don't bother to train them properly if at all.
I definitely don't envy anyone who has to deal with making these sort of decisions.
I was biking on the other side of my neighborhood one evening and stopped on a corner to rest. I dismounted and noticed that someone's sideyard fence was ajar and that there were two adorable dogs staring at me, one head on top of the other. All of a sudden they burst into deep, vicious barks and scared the shit out of me; I was less than 20 yards from them or so and by the time I remounted and started pedaling to hell, they had begun pursuing me in pack formation, the larger one on the left and the medium-ish one on the right. They kept closing in on me from both sides and I practically had to do the sitting equivalent of a flying split-kick to keep them off me, eventually I was able to accelerate to a speed faster than they could pursue me and they stopped when I had reached a crossroads.
I went back the following day with a baseball bat, intent on possibly bringing one back for dinner but unfortunately the owner had properly closed the gate this time.
Thinking back if I didn't have the bike with me they might have flanked me from two sides and maybe even gotten a shot at my throat. I didn't have a stick or anything with me so there was no good way to defend myself except with my fists, which probably wouldn't be ideal against two relatively large dogs.
“He’s OK. He has non life-threatening injuries.”
Unfortunately...
Yes, they fail elsewhere too. But they fail especially in California.
California and Louisiana have a special training regimen involving not being able to understand human language or the term "common sense".
If you display signs of being able to do either, they drum you out.
It sucks how much pit bulls get a bad rap. They're genuinely very sweet, docile dogs when raised properly.
They're outright banned here, my brother was keeping them here, but the cops found out and took them. I was so fucking pissed off, they were so nice and awesome(one was a bitch that chased cats), but luckily a friend of my brother adopted them from the shelter here and is currently caring for them out of the town's border.
Good.
Cop seriously injurs himself when protecting himself from a vicious animal, winner!
It's obvious that the dog was attacking his legs if he accidentally shoots himself in the foot. If he was just shooting a dog for the fun of it it wouldn't have been so close to him he had to aim towards his feet. But forget any logical reasoning, all dogs are cute puppies with big beady eyes and couldn't even hurt a fly, forget entirely about german shepards and pitbulls and other big dogs who can easily kill you if you're unarmed. Those things are just imagination and mumbo-jumbo made up by anti-dog extremists to make people fear dogs. Winner winner!
Hi way to read the first line of the OP's quote
If the fence is enough to keep it away from mauling me why should I kill it, however if it tries to make its way over the fence to kill me I am in the right to protect myself. Each situation is different and you assume i am thinking like a robot and cannot take the situation as a whole into account.
It might just be me, but I don't shoot dogs just for walking up to me.
Cop walks into someones fenced off yard and their dog starts barking so he instinctively tries to shoot it. What a stupid cop.
Not when the dog lunges at me the very second I pass it. It happened once, i was almost bit, luckily a leash kept it from tearing the meat off my legs.
You mean it barked at you while being walked and you got terrified because you think everything wants to hurt you.
If the fence is enough to keep it away from mauling me why should I kill it, however if it tries to make its way over the fence to kill me I am in the right to protect myself. I live in a neighborhood where there's no leash law and dogs basically roam wherever they wanna. Never have I felt threatened by any of them because as long as you don't go into their territory (aka; someone else's property), they won't do a thing to you. And even if you do, the most they'll do is keep their distance and bark until the owner disciplines them. Dogs will run up to me all the time if I'm outside, and never have I been paranoid enough to think I needed to kill it for coming near me.
The only people who kill dogs for that reason here are the Hobberts, who are paranoid shut ins for the most part anyway.
So if a dog just ran up to you, you would kill it if you had the opportunity?
Wow I can't believe some of you people just take the words "protect myself" at face value and use it to put words in their mouth. There is a thing called "choices" and "possibilities". You always have to consider them in potentially dangerous situations.
I even bolded potentially so you peeps can understand instead of claiming I'm a psychopath, sociopath, or dog killer.

That logic just fails to make any sense in my opinion. There are so many things that can "potentially" kill you. So many of them, there is always a possibility that a meteor would fall from the sky and crush me to death while I'm going to buy some groceries. A dog would never hurt you unless you intimidate them or invade their personal space unless they are rabid or whatever.
A dog would never hurt you unless you intimidate them or invade their personal space unless they are rabid or whatever.
What? People get attacked by unprovoked dogs all the time. Its part of them being an animal.
doesn't the gun realize that bodily assault on an officer is a hefty crime with jailtime? that's a felony, gun
[editline]18th April 2014[/editline]
but yeah like others say; why aren't tazers used more in these types of scenarios ?
I don't think tazers are suited to work nonlethally on small animals
What? People get attacked by unprovoked dogs all the time. Its part of them being an animal.
It takes some seriously pissed off dog to do that though. Like some dog being chained to its booth for 24/7, it's very likely they will attack if you choose to go petting it. And for a good reason.
[editline]19th April 2014[/editline]
So I think it's how they're raised/treated rather than just "being animals"
put the dog to sleep

I fail to see how uncanny situations relate to real world situations. A meteor has such a low chance of hitting you, and has pretty much zero reports of meteor deaths that it pretty much impossible. In all honesty why are you even trying to draw parallels with dog attacks and meteor deaths?
There are plenty of recorded dog attacks unprovoked or not, and maybe even more recorded against cops that it's safe to assume the possibility.
The idea of "______ would never do this unless..." is the same train of thought that kills teens from drunk driving.
