Isn't the Roman salute just something made up by artists and what not.
The closest thing is the adlocutio pose given by generals to their troops.
It's still an abridgement of freedom of speech/expression, regardless of if it's nazi stuff.
It's still an abridgement of freedom of speech/expression, regardless of if it's nazi stuff.
Football clubs are under no obligation to protect freedom of speech. No legal action was taken, but as was said above, the club wants to not be associated with a neo-nazi. Incidentally if the only way one can justify one's opinion is by blurting out "freedom of speech" then one probably had a shitty opinion to begin with.
It's still an abridgement of freedom of speech/expression, regardless of if it's nazi stuff.
I have no idea what you're trying to say here, but you're wrong regardless.
It's still an abridgement of freedom of speech/expression, regardless of if it's nazi stuff.
Football clubs in general tend to avoid politicisation, Greek clubs especially.
Isn't the Roman salute just something made up by artists and what not.
Renaissance artists. And it wasn't even a salute. It was just some general gesture.
Okay, I take back my previous comments. This wasn't an accident, he totally did it on purpose. Ever since The Golden Dawn, which most people consider to be a Neo-Nazi party, won 7% of the vote (enough for 21 seats) in the Greek Parliament in 2012, Greece has started to worry about the rise of fascism in the wake of the financial crisis. This wasn't some braindead player not knowing what he was doing like a lot of people in this thread seem to think; this was a political statement. It's not surprising he got the penalty he did in that context. His comment specifically: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtpeZ0vIxfQ At 0:40 is his own statement:" I wanted to salute like members of Golden Dawn party salute, to make people raise". he's a nazi
These kind of news always make me cringe. Are we seriously still this sensitive about the Nazi thing, it's been almost 70 years. Nobody's going to start a Nazi rebellion because they do a salute, get over it.
Except for the fact that the neo-nazi-ish Golden Dawn party is getting an alarming amount of support in Greece at the moment.
Is that an anime face I see on his left arm?
[sub][sub][sub][sub]I think it's actually two people kissing. They may or may not be anime people.[/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub]
It's still an abridgement of freedom of speech/expression, regardless of if it's nazi stuff.
You seem to have a misunderstanding of what freedom of speech is about. It means you can say things, or make a gesture like this guy, and no one stops you. He made his gesture in front of everyone, you can't say he was prevented from making the gesture he wanted. What freedom of speech does NOT mean is you are free from any penalties or repercussions of your use of free speech. He can make this gesture but is not protected from any outcome of his 'free speech'. He owns it, the gesture and any crap he has to deal with because he made that gesture.
What's more is that he's a member of a private organization that is free to dismiss him if they feel he's damaging their image by association
It's still an abridgement of freedom of speech/expression, regardless of if it's nazi stuff.
Oh no, people can't talk about their advocacy of systematically killing the ubbermensch.
What's more is that he's a member of a private organization that is free to dismiss him if they feel he's damaging their image by association
The EU will incarcerate even if the way you set the table at night resembles ANYTHING that the nazis did. There's a lot of trying to make people forget a horrible past and going at it in all the wrong ways.
Oh no, people can't talk about their advocacy of systematically killing the ubbermensch.
Untermensch. Ubermensch was the good mensch.
The EU will incarcerate even if the way you set the table at night resembles ANYTHING that the nazis did. There's a lot of trying to make people forget a horrible past and going at it in all the wrong ways.
One shouldn't forget a horrible past. The best way to prevent terrible things like this happening again is to make sure everyone knows similar things have been done before and ended like they did.
On freedom of speech: In other words, "freedom of speech" only protects you from legal repercussions. Any other type of repercussion is fair game. I'm amazed how many people don't get this. Whenever someone gets called out for Nazi rhetoric, rape apologism, psychopathy, misusing the word "inconceivable", or any other terrible speech, someone always jumps in and says "What about freedom of speech! That means that you're not allowed to do anything about this!" They're ignoring that freedom of speech not only means that people have the right to be assholes, but also that people have the right to tell assholes to fuck off. (or take their business elsewhere)
The EU will incarcerate even if the way you set the table at night resembles ANYTHING that the nazis did. There's a lot of trying to make people forget a horrible past and going at it in all the wrong ways.
Incarceration's one thing, being removed from a football team's another, the latter of which is totally justifiable
No actually he later admitted he did it as support for Golden Dawn.
He said that where?
Did he yell 'SIEG HEIL' during the salute, does he have any nazi tattoos? If not fuck off and stop being so sensitive, as said before Nazi Germany didn't invent the salute.
Nazi's didn't really invent that salute, but like Hitler's mustache they ruined it for everyone.
I look really good with the mustache, sometimes when i shave i leave it on and pretend i'm oppressing the jews in the mirror :v:
Did he yell 'SIEG HEIL' during the salute, does he have any nazi tattoos? If not fuck off and stop being so sensitive, as said before Nazi Germany didn't invent the salute.
Read the thread before you run your mouth - it's already been said that his gesture was in support of the plight of Golden Dawn, a neo-nazi political institution in Greece. [editline]18th March 2013[/editline] Also, I'd venture to say that a bit of sensitivity to this sort of thing in the circumstance in question isn't at all out of line.
lmao
I love how that guy tries to pull his arm down. As if his arm is stuck. Reminds me of this pardody :v:
what the fuck is wrong with his arm
Clearly facepunch has no understanding of what a tricep is... makes sense, I suppose.
isn't there a greek-nazi party called golden dawn or something? And they've even taken over policing duties in greece? I think it's kind of funny that a man of such complexion would associate himself with a group bent on creating a white, blonde, blue eyed race.
No actually he later admitted he did it as support for Golden Dawn. [editline]17th March 2013[/editline] Seriously how can you even believe that someone in europe in his 20's doesn't know what that salute means.
can I have a source on this? just curious since none of the major news outlets seem to say that.
can I have a source on this? just curious since none of the major news outlets seem to say that.
It's been posted somewhere in this thread before.
Basically Nazis are just fascists which hate and blame Jews right?
