-snip- welp i was late on that
Did he yell 'SIEG HEIL' during the salute, does he have any nazi tattoos? If not fuck off and stop being so sensitive, as said before Nazi Germany didn't invent the salute.
I take it you also figure that going around in white robes with a pointed hood is okay because the Inquisition used it, branding right-facing swastikas on everything is okay because it's a Hindu symbol of good luck, and referring to black people as 'negroes' is okay because it's from Spanish? Nobody uses these words or symbols innocently because we recognize their negative connotations. The only reason someone would actually use them would be specifically to evoke that connotation, unless they're really naive which I find very hard to imagine. Since there is zero chance that someone could be familiar with an archaic salute associated with the Romans and used in very minor capacities before being made world-famous by the Nazis, it's pretty obvious that it wasn't an innocent use. He wasn't trying to hail Julius fucking Caesar, it's clear that the salute was a reference to Golden Dawn.
These kind of news always make me cringe. Are we seriously still this sensitive about the Nazi thing, it's been almost 70 years. Nobody's going to start a Nazi rebellion because they do a salute, get over it.
You do realise that literally the opposite of what you've said is already happening in Greece? Go read up on the Golden Dawn.
You do realise that literally the opposite of what you've said is already happening in Greece? Go read up on the Golden Dawn.
No, not really... Golden Dawn isn't getting popular in Greece for being a neo-nazi party, but because they 'cover' this fact by actually taking action against problems a huge amount of people face every day. They distribute food/medicine for free and even assist people with whatever they can. If you ask me, what they do is quite smart, and the war from the media only seems to benefit them. The above combined with the huge frustration with all other political parties is what makes Golden Dawn so popular. I am not trying to defend them, and I most definitely don't support them. I'm just pointing out that 10% of Greeks didn't suddenly become right-wing extremists like some people seem to believe... Just that those that actually are extremists don't feel like it's something they have to hide any more...
Okay, I take back my previous comments. This wasn't an accident, he totally did it on purpose. Ever since The Golden Dawn, which most people consider to be a Neo-Nazi party, won 7% of the vote (enough for 21 seats) in the Greek Parliament in 2012, Greece has started to worry about the rise of fascism in the wake of the financial crisis. This wasn't some braindead player not knowing what he was doing like a lot of people in this thread seem to think; this was a political statement. It's not surprising he got the penalty he did in that context. His comment specifically: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtpeZ0vIxfQ At 0:40 is his own statement:" I wanted to salute like members of Golden Dawn party salute, to make people raise". he's a nazi
IDK this still doesn't prove it was political, just because he saw the salute being used by Golden Dawn members doesn't mean he was doing it in solidarity with them, he may have thought it's just a gesture used to "make people raise" as he says I may be wrong but it appears he has a 'get rich or die trying' tattoo, it's probably far more likely he is just an idiot and entirely ignorant of what he was doing

Anyone in their 20s in Europe will know what that salute stands for.

Doing the salute on the same day Greece marked the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the deportation of the Jews to Nazi extermination camps a coincidence?
