If we can get these inside cars, it'd make a huge leap in car history.
I could see a troll science with this to power your computer. Put under Graphic card, turn on computer, use heat from Graphic card to power the computer, profit.
Do you really have to ask? Assuming it's efficient enough, it could completely replace the need for the burning of fossil fuels.
for just energy, yeah but fossil fuels are used for a metric fuckton of things apart from energy, plastics and lubricants for example
Oh man. All these new windows of opportunity and exploration are opened! I am not the sciency type and I hate physics but I can't stop thinking about electromagnetism, currents and infinitely working electricity generators and other things. This is insane how fast my brain is moving about something I usually am so uninterested in. All I have to say is, if this alloy really is as good as everybody is making it out to be, there is going to be a HUGE revolution in power, electricity, efficiency and changes to almost all walks of life!
This is a rather good development, but you have to be realistic about the effects. It is best to be skeptical about the actual impact that this may have.
I'm not clear on how this works. Can the converter create electricity as long as the alloy is kept above the temperature at which it changes?
I have about a dozen questions about this, but the main ones are: How efficient is it? What's it's melting point? Production cost? How long does it last? Can I have some?
Was too busy  facing to realize this issue.
I could see a troll science with this to power your computer. It becomes magnetic when heated.
Reminds me of this:
Think of the geothermal possibilities!
Reminds me of this:
Unubtanium, hotter it gets the stronger it gets + generates electricity. That's impossible as the rising energy levels will break the bonds between atoms.
Wow, this is... I see so many damn possibilities... SCIENTISTS, PLEASE DON'T LET US DOWN, PLEASE PUT THIS TO GOOD USE.
Suddenly the Earth goes into a super cold state from everybody sapping the heat. :v:
this is amazing and a massive step forward in human history. im proud to be posting with you gentlemen.
my wallet is ready [editline]22nd June 2011[/editline] brb making a cpu cooler with this stuff
there was something like this in the cinematic abomination, "The Core" Skip to 'bout 7:50.
the possibilities are fucking endless
the possibilities are fucking endless
make FRICTION to make POWER :science: seriously though someone needs to make a cpu/gpu cooler with this shit
If it's efficient enough it go in the top of lightbulbs and make back some of the energy. That would save billions.
If it's efficient enough it go in the top of lightbulbs and make back some of the energy. That would save billions.
better to just make light bulbs that dont create heat. we have those already. [editline]22nd June 2011[/editline] also light bulbs of today are like the deformed children of planned obsolescence.
You can create seat pads that give you an electric shock when you fart.
An amazing invention that we will never hear of ever again, like all the others... :colbert:
Imagine a device strapped to your wrist with this metal. your body heat charges it up, and when someone tries to mug you... BAM you hit them with your self-charging stun-device. this is an awesome discovery.
Stun baton from HL2.
I am now going to patent a device using this new found material. I call it the Sweat-B-Gone. Basically it's like a hat you wear and stick some pads onto yourself, so when it's hot your sweat will generate heat, causing the metal to output enough electricity to make the fan spin, cooling you down. I'm so talented!
Isn't this what they did in the Matrix? But holy shit, this could change everything, especially useful as the metals in the alloy aren't particularly rare.
Does anyone have the full paper on this? Anyhow this is awfully interesting. If the people that worked with graphene got awarded the Nobel prize then surely these guys have a chance.
Elastic miniaturized human body heat powered holographic personal computers here I come.
Any word on the efficiency of conversion? I'd hate it to be a revolutionary breakthrough, but gives a maximum output similar to a potato (god forgive me), even if it's still not that far on the research and development process.
I was wondering, if something that gives off energy in the form of heat is obviously hot to the touch, would that mean this metal which absorbs energy is cold to the touch?
Let's see what they make of it; chances are in a year we'll have forgotten this all and they've made no progress on it Oh how I want to be proven wrong one of these times...
