Don't give them ideas, they are watching :tinfoil:
Jeez, all of this blatant transphobia in this thread makes me regret saying that Facepunch is a forum respects all types of people.
Fuck some of you guys, seriously.

I'd say that Facepunch is closer to currently accepted opinion, but extremely concentrated. It's no secret that in the LGBT movement, there's been little to no focus on transgendered persons.

Yeah. My struggle with homophobia is a cakewalk compared to what some transpersons have gone through.
I knew they weren't as accepted as homosexuals, but.. Damn.

I guess this one is more fitting for what I was trying to say:
Ok, I didn't think about that
Anyway in this other thread about transgenderism, someone was saying that the majority of gender dysphoria cases are as bad as suicide and genital mutilation and they were getting mad at anyone who even slightly doubted its seriousness.
Not the majority, but an alarmingly high 41% of trans people have attempted suicide. Myself included.
For reference, <2% of the general population attempts suicide.

I always thought it was around 50% that did. Turns out I was right.
Damn I feel bad for attempting.
I'd say that Facepunch is closer to currently accepted opinion,
I agree with you there. That's why in past threads i've said that a lot of people here have been overreacting at some people's opinions, when in fact I think it's safe to say that Facepunch is overall more open-minded than society in general. Like being called a horrible human being just for having the common opinion/understanding of transgenderism is a bit silly, which is what I was trying to get at when I mentioned the 'self-entitlement' thing. I just could have worded my arguments better tbh.

Well everything really, because what you call the "common opinion/understanding of transgenderism" is mostly what religious beliefs taught you.
Well everything really, because what you call the "common opinion/understanding of transgenderism" is mostly what religious beliefs taught you.
It's more out of base ignorance than religion dude, religion is just a vessel for hate, it would exist whether or not religion did.
Well everything really, because what you call the "common opinion/understanding of transgenderism" is mostly what religious beliefs taught you.
What religious beliefs?

Wasn't facepunch ten years ago really homophobic? If anything trans people will end up the same as homosexuals for another ten years until acceptance is achieved.

HL2 wasn't even released ten years ago...

Well it kinda is a newer issue in society. I know they existed as long as homosexuals (aka as long as humanity) but as far as I know homosexuality stopped being seen as a disease only very lately, and it's been even less time for transgenderism and such. In France, it was only in 2010 that gender identity disorder stopped being considered a long-term institutionalization worthy psychological condition.
Just give people time, and let them deal with one issue at a time. A lot of people already struggle to get along with the idea that people of the can sex can love each other (and that it's not a disease), let alone get along with the idea that people think they aren't in the right body (which a lot of people already mix with homosexuality and honestly up until three or four years ago I still believed it was just some weird deviant fetish linked with homosexuality).
All I can say is wow,

There was a protest against this in Berlin.
All I did was start a petition.

So your transphobia isn't religious in origin? Then where do you get your ignorance from?
So your transphobia isn't religious in origin? Then where do you get your ignorance from?
Human beings don't need religion to be scared or things they don't understand and it's almost an inherent mechanism to estimate yourself superior to other people in a way or another.
Racism didn't need religion to appear, and a lot of homophobia wasn't triggered by religion at all.
After the appearance of AIDS a lot of people just generally hated homosexuals because they were accused of spreading the disease like mad, some even saying they were inferior people who had their own little disease. Yes the issue was also interpreted as certain religious people as god's way to "remove the gay" but it was a very marginal portion of people who "religiously hated" homosexuals back then.

Someone else. Particularly sociopaths who want to feel superior to other people for something that's arbitrary; like race.

I got nothing wrong with people disliking religion but at least have some idea what you're talking about before you go and make claims like that.
So your transphobia isn't religious in origin? Then where do you get your ignorance from?
But i'm not transphobic, where'd you get that from? If i'm a transphobe you must be a religiophobe. See, none of us is better than the other
I got nothing wrong with people disliking religion but at least have some idea what you're talking about before you go and make claims like that.
The thing is, the bible has been written in a time when slavery was the norm. It was a common day practice. Although it was not based on race like in the USA. Likewise, the old testament has been written by and for the jewish. A 'chosen people' according to the bible itself. Hence, separating themself from, say, greeks, romans, nubians ect. It is a kind of racism.
And if you take the bible literal, you get what the alien says. And probably a likewise reaction from the other side. Yet, the bible means to establish how to treat your slave right. Which was an improvement back then.
Today, these behavioural codes are outdated. Because slavery has been abolished. (Outside the kinky person bedroom. And in the third world of course. But modern slavery is a different matter.)
By the way, I have not read the bible completely. But I have read the parts that matter regarding slavery. And I have delved into the history of the classical time a lot.
I guess, what I mean is, times change. And it's on us to make the changes for the better. Against old fashioned opinions that hurt, in this case, a transgendered child and possibly ruin her whole life.
Yet, the bible means to establish how to treat your slave right. Which was an improvement back then.
However, it makes absolutely zero sense when you know that God is (supposedly) omniscient and benevolent.
It'd be better if threads like this were in Mass Debate, so people couldn't go on childish dumb rating sprees, and instead actually explain why they disagree with you...
But i'm not transphobic, where'd you get that from?
Well, I'd imagine it has to do with you posting things like this.
But what evidence is there that they seriously see themselves as a gender that doesn't match their sex, and are not just saying things like kids always do?
Among others. I cannot be arsed to scrub the rest of your posts.

Would be easier find the posts you've made that I agree with, because hoo boy you've posted some stupid shit.
Well, I'd imagine it has to do with you posting things like this.

I was talking about 2-3 year olds there. Just a tiny bit of doubt is good sometimes you know
Anyway apart from that, how the hell is that comment transphobic in the first place?
However, it makes absolutely zero sense when you know that God is (supposedly) omniscient and benevolent.
I agree with you. But the bible was written by humans, not by god. There are many inconsistencies in the bible. Which is one of the reasons why I am not of christian faith. But I think this leads too far off topic now.

I made a thread about Transgender people in Mass Debate while ago.
Got closed.
[editline]hello[/editline]
Unless you mean about Religion, in which case it's already there.

Just because you say stupid shit and you get dumbs, doesnt mean that a semi controversal news article should be move to mass debate.
