FBI asks public for help breaking encrypted notes tied to 1999 murder

Is anyone able to source or reference the actual murder article, or even find any information on the original "Ricky McCormick"? I've searched Ricky McCormick, Richard, Rick, Rich, and searching Missouri's main newspapers for archives and found nothing.

Take a look at note 2, it has the same pattern of Se's as the first note, something new here is that you have an SE SE together something that you don't find in the first note, the closest you got to any of them together was an SE followed by something and then another SE. Just not sure what this all can mean..

You missed a few SE. could you also single out all the single E's, the PR's and the numbers?

Purple Boxes = possible numbers
Green Circles = NCB
Cyan/Light blue box = WLD
NCBE is the acronym for National Conference of Bar Examiners. Doesn't make sense to reference that so many times though. PRSE is used quite a bit, however one line says PR+SE, so I guess it's probably two different things that are rarely seen apart. M's are always lowercase, as far as I can tell, the ONLY lowercase letter.

good catch, that could possibly mean that lowercase m followed by another letter or group of letters could mean something as well or might mean something on its own entirely.

But has anyone considered the add-x and/or subtract-x from each letter technique? I.E. 's', numerically, = 19, but the note could be written so that each letter equals its numerical value +/- a number. I.E.E. 's' + 2 = 21 = 'u'
Also, worth thinking about deliberate mispellings.

keep throwing out ideas, i highly doubt anyone here really knows much if anything about cryptology, most of us it seems are just making observations, but collectively who knows we could possibly find some sort of rock thats helps us move forward with it.

i used someone putting this in text earlier and removed all the "e" and all of the "W L D N C B E" to see if there are any remaining patterns if you remove those. just in case it helps
The first page says P1 in the top right. Unless the other page has a numbering like this too it seems strange to me that they would have a page number. Could P=1? Could be a simple cypher but I'd think the FBI would have done this at first

I just did, but I kept all the E's and I dropped the Se's the WLDNCBE WLD and as many other repeats we've found so far.
I just looked at the note in the Op and my mind unscrambled about 8 words right off the bat. Can't see anything else though tbh. This was probably one of those things that were just supposed to never be found out, just to fuck with people.

i like what you're saying by this, I mean according to the FBI these notes were written by the victim, and i would assume that he would want someone to crack this, if he was trying to hide something by writing these notes he could have just not written any at all, i would think that P1 has to mean something in the sense that it could provide a first step or something, but again this is all just speculation..

Was he leaving a note for himself? If so he wouldn't go through all that trouble to encrypt something too complex.
Maybe it's so damn easy that no one would ever think about using a simple concept to decrypt it.

It could be, maybe he got really good at it or developed a personal system since he's been doing it for so long, I dunno theres just so many possibilities.
