Might as well also cancel every flight in the US on September 11 in respect of 9/11. I understand this is out of respect, but it's not the best way to do so. Donations would be way better.
some guy with the same name, IIRC
I'm pretty sure it is him, I haven't heard anything to say it isn't, except for your post of course. The photo is sourced from the university he studied at I think, so it's probably him.
All the newspapers printed that picture. Surely they would make sure it was him before hand.
a couple of news sources put out that photoshopped image of Osama with a head wound after the Osama assassination, so no, not really. news sources will jump to get the info out first even if theyre completely wrong.

I just thought about it, and there is no photo you can have taken of you that will make you look good if you become a killer. If you're smiling, you're deranged, if you're frowning, you're volatile, if you've got a blank face you are cold blooded [editline]20th July 2012[/editline]
a couple of news sources put out that photoshopped image of Osama with a head wound after the Osama assassination, so no, not really. news sources will jump to get the info out first even if theyre completely wrong.
I'm on holiday in Mallorca at the moment and in the daily english newspaper the poster they used for a small piece about the Dark Knight Rises premiere (in mallorca, not america) was a fan made one with guy pearce as the riddler.
I imagine that if they do go through with this, it will tempt dozens and dozens of people to just pirate the movie and watch it at home instead.
Rather than cancelling it, how about a short announcement before the film plays paying respect to those who died during the massacre? It can be a short 15 second clip, and maybe add on that they'll donate some of the money to the affected families (if they choose to do that).
rated warner bros dumb
It seems more respectful to keep showing it; it's what they wanted to watch and probably what they would've wanted.
It would pay more respect to just show a message at the beginning of every screening from now on asking for a moment of silence for the victims, cancelling it is just dumb.
This whole thing wouldn't have happened if gun ownership was abolished in America. How many shootings will it take for them to realise?
the only problem being the guy obtained the gun illegally apparently.
It would pay more respect to just show a message at the beginning of every screening from now on asking for a moment of silence for the victims, cancelling it is just dumb.
I'd just use MS Paint to scrawl "A moment of silence please" onto those "Please don't spoil the movie" slides about turning off cellphones that they show before the movie. Knowing the theaters though, they'd also scrawl "Drink more Coke and eat more popcorn, the victims would have wanted it that way" while they were at it.
I bought tickets for IMAX for tomorrow night. Please don't cancel.
The show must go on.
AngryChair just stop. I'm not kidding, just stop. Every single thread that has some sort of gun related tragedy in America you post this same exact message, and then you remain willfully ignorant about why this wouldn't work. America has a huge supply of guns. Abolishing gun ownership will accomplish nothing and will just make things much worse. It will serve to empower criminals and create a demand for guns that will be served by the black market. You will basically be creating a profitable criminal market with such a ban in America. Not to mention this post is pretty much a lie because I can promise you that even if guns were banned in America this guy would have easily found a way to acquire one anyways. But why do I even bother? You are just going to continue to be willfully ignorant and the very next thread that involves gun crime in America will contain you posting this exact same post and you will continue to never learn. Did you seriously post this? You know what? I'm convinced. I'm convinced that you have been trolling us this entire time. It would blow my mind if you were legitimately this stupid.
Are you kidding? First, I direct you to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_firearm-related_death_rate (out of date, but still makes the point I think, would appreciate if anyone found newer data) All top countries have liberal gun laws. Yes, a lot of them are less developed so there may be other causes, but compare the gun related homicides per 100k people of the US to European countries, many of which have no legal ownership of guns. US: 4.14 France: 0.44 Norway: 0.3 England: 0.07 You can draw your own conclusions from that, or read: http://voices.yahoo.com/international-gun-laws-show-firearm-availability-is-310337.html?cat=17 (credibility questionable I see no sources) A black market for guns, perhaps, but I think you overestimate how easy access to one would be for the average joe, not to mention the rapid increase in price, pricing many people (like the student in question) out of the market - really think he could afford those guns in a black market? (AR-15 assault rifle, Remmington 12 guage shotgun, 40 caliber glock. He also had another 40-caliber Glock in his car - clearly one gun is enough, but perhaps damage limitation and other factors could come into play, I'm sure he'd of causes a few less injuries with just a glock) At first people will still try to find a way, but its about creating a culture were guns are not household items, so perhaps it would be gradual. I live in the UK, and I can safely say that both myself and my close friends do not have a clue how to obtain a gun, they are simply unavailable in my area at least. You say you promise me he would find a way, but I dispute that, with at least some evidence living in such a country. http://www.converge.org.nz/pma/gunaus.htm - This is an interesting read, and I picked out some key statistics -Twelve days after 35 people were shot dead by a single gunman in Tasmania, Australia's state and federal governments agreed to enact wide-ranging new gun control laws to curb firearm-related death and injury -"There was a decrease of almost 30% in the number of homicides by firearms from 1997 to 1998." -The overall rate of homicide in Australia has also dropped to its lowest point since 1989 -In Canada, where new gun laws were introduced in 1991 and 1995, the number of gun deaths has reached a 30-year low. -Two years ago in the United Kingdom, civilian handguns were banned, bought back from their owners and destroyed. In the year following the law change, Scotland recorded a 17% drop in all firearm-related offences. The British Home Office reports that in the nine months following the handgun ban, firearm-related offences in England and Wales dropped by 13%. -A British citizen is still 50 times less likely to be a victim of gun homicide than an American. (sources all listed at bottom, all credible) I simply cannot see why people are desperate to hold onto these items, designed purely to kill other human beings. (EDIT: forgot one bullet point)
Respect for them? I hardly see how this is respect. Tons of people still want to see the movie. What would the victim's families think? "Yes, stop all showings because we're sad" It's terrible and I don't mock the suffering they are going through but stopping showings is idiotic.
I'm sure the killer will be glad to know his actions have had such an effect, and the victims glad to know that they're deaths mean many others who, like the victims, want to see a brilliant film will no longer be able to. JUSTICE.
A movie studio canceling shows in respect for victims of a tragedy instead of shooting for another box office record and a Olympic-sized swimming pool of money for every board member? Hahaha, right. The heat death of the universe will happen before studio execs give up an opening weekend like that.
Only takes one guy to ruin it for everyone...
He even looks like a smug prick.
wall of text
You can't ban guns in america without a constitutional amendment, and the only time any amendment has been overturned is with prohibition, and that was because everyone was drinking and people were dieing due to gang violence. Your comment about the black market not blooming up is invalid, we already have an easily accessible gun black market here. (gun shows)
Why is it that whenever there's a shooting thread, in the first page I always see something like this:
This whole thing wouldn't have happened if gun ownership was abolished in America. How many shootings will it take for them to realise? (User was banned for this post ("Has not learned a thing from his last ban." - Craptasket))
HURF DURF IF AMERICA JUST BANNED GUNS WE WOULDN'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM xD JUST GET RID OF THEM It's like I'm losing brain cells by the hundreds.
Gun debate settled with this
I simply cannot see why people are desperate to hold onto these items, designed purely to kill other human beings. (EDIT: forgot one bullet point)
Or, you know, hunt wild animals for food or game, shooting competitions for fun, nope, only for killing other people.
This whole thing wouldn't have happened if gun ownership was abolished in America. How many shootings will it take for them to realise? Okay guys, we know that AngryChairR is a moron. Lets stop feeding him.
This is a really stupid move. I think that they'll regret it in a couple of years. [editline]20th July 2012[/editline] At least I already saw the midnight premier
