Okay so we get Forge.. what about the rest of the game?
At this point, modders or someone will make a full game out of it.
More clarification on how multiplayer will work. http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2016/05/halo-5-online-multiplayer-forge-mode-are-coming-to-windows-10-for-free/ This whole thing is basically Forge, and possibly Custom Games if I'm reading this right, for free. But you can only play matches with people you invite from your friends list.

This being completely free is big thing, i think me and some mates can spent hours on working on some map.
I am guessing they keep Halo on console only because they've probably dumped so much money into these consoles, that they really badly want everyone buying one just to play the series...? Because I cannot conjure up any other reasons why they're so reluctant to put any further Halo games on PC, it's ridiculous.
Halo Reach for PC please.
This is a step in the right direction, I hope. Halo isn't a console seller anymore. It would be smart to re-release them for PC for ez money.
This is extremely confusing and sort of irritating... Here they're putting in a fully functional engine port with map editor but for the express purpose of it not being a full halo PC game......
Custom games confirmed: https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/community/blog-posts/a-whole-new-level
Q: Can I use mouse and keyboard when I play Custom Games and test my Forge creations on Windows 10, or only when I build? A: Yes! Mouse and keyboard support will be offered for both gameplay as well as within the creative experience in Forge on Windows 10.

Its pretty hilarious how everyone has been crying for years to have Halo ported to the PC and now they are finally taking a step towards that direction and now everyone has a new thing to cry about because they don´t get the whole thing on the get-go, these guys are doing things in a slow manner which is good
People don't like being sold nearly a complete game, granted, this is a free thing so it's less painful but there are so many people willing to pay full retail for a complete modern halo game on PC it's just ridiculous they'd put out this half measure
they keep releasing these tiny little fragments of halo on pc like spartan assault, the russian f2p halo 3 multiplayer, and now this it's like the main games are magnetically repulsed by standard computer hardware or something

Or if you want to look at it on a positive side. Halo:Online showed them how many people want a new Halo on PC, and this port is them testing the waters for a full blown title (Like Forza 6: Apex being released before they start work on 7)
How many days has been since Halo 3 has been released again?
ya'll are looking at this wrong. the fact that they're simply doing this is an amazing start.
i'll get excited if it becomes more than just a start
i'll get excited if it becomes more than just a start
Considering Halo Wars 2 is coming to Windows 10 and the executive producer at 343i said this, I imagine they have more Halo and PC stuff in future. But who knows when/what that will be. [editline]21st May 2016[/editline] The most I can imagine happening any time soon is either a very very late port of the MCC or Halo 6 will be a timed console XB1 console exclusive and have a PC release some time later once initial "hype" from its release dies down.

I bet they aren't going to bother making it look better on PC like it should.
It will probably flop if it's just a UWP game without any additional improvements for pc. Hopefully they fix the issue Halo 1 and 2 PC (well Halo 2 PC has a hell of a lot of issues but the other major ones were fixable) has of forcing you to pick mouse sensitivity from a list of integers. If I can't use the same sensitivity I use in every other FPS game then into the trash it goes.
what are you even talking about if it's just a free game without ads or microtransactions it's probably going to flop regardless because they won't be making any money off of it
I.e. it won't attract many pc players to the series (so they won't go out and buy a console to play halo) and will at best be used by a few Xbox players for more sensitive forge editing.
It will probably flop if it's just a UWP game without any additional improvements for pc. Main ones obviously being 4k support and direct x 12.
what are you even talking about if it's just a free game without ads or microtransactions it's probably going to flop regardless because they won't be making any money off of it
Except this is one of the most likely things to get people to switch to Windows 10. That isn't a 'flop' to them.

DX12 offers lower overhead but what are they utilizing that for? Are they going to push extra detail that wouldn't be possible without it, or are they going to just utilize DX12 so they can get away with not optimizing the code elsewhere?

They are bound to be utilizing its potential.
If they are adding 4k and DX12 then they arn't just adding it for shits and giggles. They are bound to be utilizing its potential.
Yeah just like how Halo 2 was a great PC port with it's cutting edge DX10 support.
Yeah just like how Halo 2 was a great PC port with it's cutting edge DX10 support.
It's already going to be locked to Win10 by using the UWP, there's no reason for them to use DX12 for that too.
Yeah just like how Halo 2 was a great PC port with it's cutting edge DX10 support.
While UWP still has its flaws.(Which they are slowly addressing) Its a huge step in the right direction when you compare it to the monstrosity that was Halo 2 Vista.
Yeah just like how Halo 2 was a great PC port with it's cutting edge DX10 support.
Halo 2 utilizes DirectX9. They only bothered upgrading it to shader model 2 just like Halo 1 PC.
Halo 2 utilizes DirectX9. They only bothered upgrading it to shader model 2 just like Halo 1 PC.
It's on DX10 to force Vista but doesn't actually use any of the features.
It's on DX10 to force Vista but doesn't actually use any of the features.
No it's not. You can run the game on xp with a workaround.
No it's not. You can run the game on xp with a workaround.
Oh, whoever I heard that from was full of shit. I assumed the XP patch was a DX10 -> DX9 wrapper.
