I suppose so. I believe a God exists, but I don't have evidence. I don't have to prove He doesn't exist as not evidence exists to support His existence, but by faith I choose to believe in a God, and still, no one knows whether or not a God exists. Evidence points against it, but no one knows for sure. You actually made valid points.
Define the word "Exist."
The dictionary says:
ex·ist (g-zst)
intr.v. ex·ist·ed, ex·ist·ing, ex·ists
1. To have actual being; be real.
2. To have life; live: one of the worst actors that ever existed.
3. To live at a minimal level; subsist: barely enough income on which to exist.
4. To continue to be; persist: old customs that still exist in rural areas.
5. To be present under certain circumstances or in a specified place; occur: "Wealth and poverty exist in every demographic category" (Thomas G. Exter).
So by definition, God does not exist.
Use some other word, semantics are important.
So you accept that your beliefs are irrational and illogical.
By evidencial standards, yes. I could just as easily be wrong as I could just as easily be right. Though through faith, I choose to be "better safe than sorry" with my belief, but it's also a choice, not a "just in case" sort of thing.

While I understand that your reasoning is completely illogical, if I apply your logic to what I said before. I should be wearing a bullet proof helmet and I should leave my house immediately, "better safe then sorry".
You're also going to have to accept that if you hold completely irrational beliefs, that people will make fun of you for being stupid and irrational, because you are being stupid and irrational. Just like I would make fun of the guy who thinks aliens are invading, or the guy who thinks judgment day is upon us.

And by your better safe then sorry approach, you would have a better chance at winning the lottery, every day, for the rest of your life (You can't even possibly begin to comprehend how impossibly small these odds are.), then to have the correct belief to not going to hell, by chance, out of every possible conceivable god. And yet, you take those chances, despite evidence pointing to the inevitable conclusion that you will just die, and that will be it. So you corrupt your single time at existence, by taking a silly gamble. (I say corrupt, because having beliefs like that can't really make your life better, unless you get off of being hated by people for being an irrational bigot.)
I believe in God, I'm a Christian, non denominational, and I was once like these insufferable fucking simpletons who would deny rights to people who want nothing more than acceptance.
I never even knew homosexuality existed until I was a teen, and I was so wierded out by it that I didn't like it at all. Then I heard that "it was against God", and clung to that, proudly saying that I wasn't "racist", I was "sexual orientationist".
That was, until I came to realize one day that one of my best friends was gay. It was on that day that I rather chose my loyalties, because another friend of mine, far less tolerant than I, walked up to him and began verbally assaulting him over it, and without thinking, I stepped between them and told him to go fuck himself.
It's been years to get used to the idea, plus another friend coming out, a friend who has educated me (ad friggin' nauseum) on the plight of the gays and of the truth of homosexuality, and it was only last year around this time that I (being a Californian) made my decision at the BOOTH to vote "no" on prop 8.
I look back at before, and I see my old feelings for what they were. I decided to hate gays because "supposedly" (I have learned otherwise) that God was also against them. But that wasn't really true. God's "hatred" of gays was only a crutch I used to justify my own feelings towards the notion of two men or two women being together. It was an EXCUSE, because it was DIFFERENT and I was uncomfortable about it. And I guarantee, that the same is true of every one of the bigots who voted for what happened in Maine.
It's all asinine to begin with. Even if homosexuality WERE a sin, it would be no different than any other sin. One of the same passages that mentions the "abomination" of homosexuality also mentions before that it is an "abomination" to eat rabbits. The only reason it's such a big deal to these people is because THEY have made it a priority, due to their OWN moral compass. They have no right to bring God into the matter, when God loves and accepts these people, when in some cases, their own FAMILIES won't!
My feeling on the matter is in general, that while I am a Christian, and believe firmly that there IS a God, regardless of how he does or doesn't feel, religious standings should hold no influence on the laws of man, period. The laws of our governments should be decided purely by logic and reason. Otherwise, we get theologies as out of control as in the Middle East, or Puritan villages like Salem.
My feeling is that even if you believe something to be a sin, the matter of that sin is one that is between you and God alone. While we don't WANT people to have abortions, who are we to make them illegal? Who are we to keep two people from loving each other? This is exactly why Jesus asked us not to judge others, because it's none of our business what sins the others commit, and the best thing you can do is to urge sinners to do right with love. You CANNOT force them to abide by YOUR rules, and that is exactly what BANNING the marriage of a homosexual couple is. Force. Fascism.
But obviously, I feel it's more than fine to be gay, it's just how they are, we can't do anything about it, and there's nothing wrong about it. It's love. And if God IS against that (and he is not) then God can pound sand as far as I'm concerned. But again, I don't believe that is the case. Perhaps this is blasphemous to say, but I feel it's often better to follow what's in your heart, rather than follow what a religion tells you should be in it.
^^^This man deserves props for sitting there long enough to type all that out. My letters would've started looking like gibberish halfway though.

I like you. Your views are very, socially acceptable, I know that sounds bad in a way, but take it as a compliment. I'm not gonna ask you why you believe in a god, just, for now :v:.

Agreed.
He pretty much summed up how I feel, at any rate.
edit: It's fucking difficult being a pastor's daughter in a world that thinks all Christians are ridiculous and idiotic. Lame. He's a pretty down to earth guy though.

But I call my self a deist because, I don't want to be grouped in with Christians.

You do realize that science and religion aren't on the same level right?
That they are not two sides of the same coin.
What the bible tells you and what science has uncovered aren't even remotely similar. Your ignorance isn't just another way of doing things. Ignorance is ignorance.
Science is the search for truth. Nothing more and nothing less. It isn't a religion. It doesn't have followers. It doesn't have priests or holy texts. It is simply the search for truth. To ignore its findings entirely is a grave error.
Out of curiosity, what is your take on evolution?
gmod dude, you're dumb, go back to free republic or stormfront or whatever. nobody wants to "debate" with someone who argues like a child
The fact you don't know that religion is false. Science points against it, sure, but you don't know for sure it isn't true.

Oh the neverending joy of an self-centered, egotistic, atheistic community that doesn't have the mental capacity to handle beliefs that differ.
lol "mental capacity"
everyone who has ever used the phrase "mental capacity" is a pseudo-intellectual asshole
it's like the number one buzzword used by smug nerds who think that having a high IQ is worth a damn
God damn, why the fuck did they repeal it? Now the gays are gonna go all :jihad: on all of the :catholic:'s.
