GOG is bullshit. Alot of these games should be "abandonware". I don't want to pay $6 for a game that is 10-12 years old. Most of these games should be $2 at most. [editline]12:44PM[/editline] Also, these games were initially released without DRM.
:objection: Manual DRM

Most of these prices are lower than what it is on competing services or what it actually cost in stores. You'd be paying 20 to 30 dollars for most of the items in their catalog if they didn't have such ridiculously low prices.

In some cases it's not the original developer because they aren't around anymore, but somebody does own the rights to the game. If they can't track down who owns it, they don't sell it.

A lot of these older games, will struggle with newer operating system platforms and hardware. Requiring you to use pre-set compatibility layers, or create your own compatibility rule set for that application. Unless this service has already provided the proper "workarounds", its not worth the $6 that you have to dump time into to get it to work, and in a semi-stable state. A good service for old, abandoned titles would charge you a monthly price ($15 a month is reasonable) and host these through a citrix server. It might be a bit slow (depending on network and server load), but you don't have to fuck with compatibility. And yeah, I know Abandonware is "pirating". But Pirating from whom is a good question. There was once a service called Home of the underdogs. Which supplied many abandoned titles, that have been off the market (Completely, the game was no longer sold anywhere) for a quinquennium.
None of those services were legal. Just because it's not on the market doesn't mean it is legal to pirate it. I don't see why anyone would feel entitled to have all the old games given to them for a pittance simply because they are dated.
I have Patrician III, Sacrifice (Which sadly does not work with my 8800GT), and a few others I can't remember.

Not saying it should be given away for pitty, but if you're not supporting it, and your development team has long abandoned the game (by ultimately being absorbed/closed up). What is the point? Most of these games I still have anyways... I just find it difficult to think that some of these games are 6... but like what sephrosasia said, this is worth the $6-10. Manually tweaking compatibility is a bitch of a job. $10 is worth it really... Rated you informative, thanks.
Wow, thanks guys, I found a place I can legally buy Postal 2 and Duke Nukem Forever! While this was a dick move, I think they did good in the end.
WHAT A SURPRISE Didn't see that one coming NOT
Me butthurt? Nah, you're the one who started it so it seems more like you are. If I were butthurt I wouldn't be speaking in a friendly manner, instead I would be talking in an angry manner.
I was just pointing out the obvious, dilweed.
Wow... I don't go to GoG often enough... I would never have know about this.
You know, this marketing stunt actually worked. It became controversial, meaning more people would be drawn in. I had never heard of gog.com until this had happened.
