• P.E "not strenuous enough" say school inspectors

PE was easy as shit when I was in school. Elementary school had the best dodgeball games, and the 1 year I did it in highschool was the 1 year they had dodgeball banned for being "too violent" We did mostly running in PE, with some stretches prior. Your grade was based upon whether or not you got dressed, so it was virtually impossible to fail. Yet some people did. Somehow.
I wonder how US schools compare because I don't remember doing much of anything. Maybe kicking a ball, playing some tennis. What with how fat everyone is getting you'd think by now there would be some mandatory track and push ups or something. You guys are not alone.
Every day in high school PE (I was stuck with it for every semester because I needed to have a minimum number of classes, and PE was the only opening left), we did stretches, then ran a mile, and then did something afterwards. Might have been football, or hockey, even lifted weights.
I hated P.E through primary and secondary. I'm not hardy dammit, why expect me to be active in the winter freezing cold? I stood shivering to fuck and I collapsed, I couldn't do a damn thing. I dunno why the girls were allowed trousers, but shorts and a t-shirt was horrifying.
they made us fucking square dance in PE it was awful
Here it was balroom dancing or whatever you call it. Lucky me the teachers I had were pretty chill about it and just evaluated a few things that had nothing to do with it and called it a day. Until my 10th grade teacher, who actually said "IF YOU CAN'T DO P.E, THEN YOU SHOULDN'T HAD BEEN BORN!" to a girl with cancer, who died a few years ago due to her illness and overall bad health caused by it. Man that guy was a huge douchebag.
Not sure why you guys are complaining about the cold, don't most schools do PE indoors during winter? (mine does at least)
Not sure why you guys are complaining about the cold, don't most schools do PE indoors during winter? (mine does at least)
The school I went to, never did. They only allowed the mentally handicapped to go inside first. In the summer it was done indoors. This is mindless and idiotic.
I'd have appreciated it if they pushed us a little more - I'm pretty lacking in the muscle department :v:
Not sure why you guys are complaining about the cold, don't most schools do PE indoors during winter? (mine does at least)
We got to go inside sometimes but mostly just into the sports hall which was just a big room with no radiators.
My school's PE lessons were really good, felt like we were doing something all the time and it was well balanced with the theory side. My school had extra sports or whatever thing you wanted to do at the end of the day before the short 'homework' at school time (Private school). However when I was at a public school for a couple of years it was just the same football, rugby a small time spent swimming and some field sports.
My P.E. wasnt real good. I had to sit out a lot of lessons anyways because of my bad knee. And I have pretty ugly motor control (on the gross scale, i fall down a whole lot, on the fine scale, i can't hold a pencil correctly). The gym teacher told me to sit out multiple times because i would often stumble into people and once in a while it made half the class fall down. Another thing i remember we were doing golfing outside in the football field and i accidentally let go of the club and it flew across the field. Its good thing it didnt hit anyone as that thing was heavy.
My P.E. class basically involved the people who were fit and actually wanted to do something, the kids who thought they were "top shit" but all they did was walk around the field talking to others about stuff, then the fat kids who gave up after the first lap around the track. I enjoyed running and was usually the first or second to finish the 2 laps around the field, course at that time I was doing kickboxing so my endurance was higher then other kids. Speaking of kickboxing I should really get back into it. As for P.E. not being strenuous, how about you remove that square dancing thing. WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH GYM???
I got a B in gym because I couldnt touch my toes. Ruining my chances at a 4.0
Best bit in P.E was playing Unihoc - cue 30 or so 15 year old boys hacking each other to death with plastic sticks, with the occasional goal being scored :v: I mean, I loved playing hockey, badminton and basketball, but we'd spend most of our time doing shit like gymnastics or trampolining. Then we had a hour's dance class up to Year 9, which 'counted' towards our mandatory physical education each week, and that was a waste of time.
My PE lessons were spent telling the teacher why I'm not wearing anything from the shit stained Lost & Found box. She understood.
I loved PE, because my group was essentially unfit nerds and the only girls who didn't pick dance, the teacher we had basically let us play tennis, ultimate frisbee and table tennis for 3 years.
the teacher we had basically let us play tennis, ultimate frisbee and table tennis for 3 years.
At which point does frisbee stop being frisbee and become ultimate? do you throw it harder or something? Play frisbee facing the wind, that's pretty ultimate.
I remember P.E. being quite strenuous here in the Netherlands. We got mandatory shuttle-run tests that you had to pass, a certain distance you had to be able to run within a certain time, push-ups and sit-ups and a whole bunch of other tests you had to pass in order to pass P.E. As long as you showed improvement and effort, you'd usually pass though, even if you didn't meet the exact mark.
At my high school (Southern Ontario) it was pretty much this, as long as you improved, you did well. Also fuck the beep test.
All that happened in our lessons was the piss-taking of the teacher, her saying "Fuck this" walking out and then we have a kick-about. [editline]14th February 2013[/editline] IN the winter months, we just had snowball fights with 200 people for 2 hours.
When I was in year 10, part of the curriculum was to go bowling. We even had lunch from the Wimpy there, every week.
Fucking lucky cunt Im in Year 10 now and all we do is play football for an hour. PE in school nowadays is bullshit, 2 Theories classes (2 classes of Learning about PE. muscles,Joints ECT) and 1 lesson of physical education each week. and to be honest those 2 lessons of theory could be spent on other subjects that I actually do care about or need to improve on.
I hated PE because I was the worst player at everything we did :c
I hated P.E through primary and secondary. I'm not hardy dammit, why expect me to be active in the winter freezing cold? But the amount of pe lessons and "Theory" we go through really does make me sick. Im pretty sure the goverment changed it due to this "obesity" shit. If I were to take PE seriously I would of took PE as a GCSE subject which you can do.
At which point does frisbee stop being frisbee and become ultimate? do you throw it harder or something? Play frisbee facing the wind, that's pretty ultimate.
Ultimate frisbee is basically soccer with a frisbee instead of a ball.
That's pretty fucking ultimate.
I hated PE, it's probably why I'm so averse to exercising and sports now.
You're not alone, I had bad experiences too. Around my high school there was a lot of forest and odds were 50/50 we'd have to go for a run around the paths there. The 'short' path was 2.5km and if you were a jock you could do the 5km run. If you didn't keep up with the teacher you sucked. Rest of the time it wasn't so bad though, we'd play football (soccer) or dodgeball if you were lucky, but if the teacher was having a bad day you might have to do the fabled bleep test, which obviously the jocks steamrolled. I shouldn't complain though, I somehow scored a B in IGCSE Sports Science :s
My secondary school P.E. lessons were fucking atrocious. We only ever did something indoors if the weather was JUST right. Otherwise it was cross country outside. Rain? Cross country. Snow? Cross country. Fucking hot/cold outside? Cross country. You slow down at any point during the cross country? Have fun, you're doing it a second time immediately after. And to top it all off? Drinks weren't allowed so you couldn't even bring some god damn water with you. Yeah, I wasn't too fond of it.
what is this bleep test of legend you people keep mentioning?
what is this bleep test of legend you people keep mentioning?
You run between two points, you have to reach each point before/as it bleeps, and it gradually get's faster. It's shit.
In year 10 and year 11 we had to walk for an hour. They gave up trying to give us PE lessons. Before that it was only crap like softball or dodgeball anyway.
You're lucky you got to play dodgeball. We were never allowed to because it's "too violent".
You're lucky you got to play dodgeball. We were never allowed to because it's "too violent".
Dodgeball was fun except when people had glasses. I think there were at least 3 times where glasses were destroyed in that game, one time drew blood (bridge of the nose got cut).
Hmm, most of the time it's edgy little teenage cunts not wanting to do anything. I lost several pounds from my one semester of High School PE, hell, I even got some dinky school award for my effort in the class.. :v:
