The Advent website is now just a redirect to the xcom 2 website. The bad ending is CONFIRMED to be canon for this game
"Twenty years have passed since world leaders offered an unconditional surrender to alien forces and XCOM, the planet's last line of defense, was left decimated and scattered. Now the aliens rule Earth, building shining cities that promise a brilliant future for humanity on the surface, while concealing a sinister agenda below and eliminating all who dissent from their new order."
Just because we took out the first wave or their commanders, doesn't mean we won. We might have bloodied their nose-analog, but it doesn't mean we beat them.
Also, Jake Solomon's original vision involved large numbers of soldiers, random maps, and time units instead of action points, but it was scaled down because they thought it would be alienating[sp]heh[/sp] to new players. Maybe now that there's an established fanbase and they no longer have to appeal to the console crowd, they can start to bring some of that stuff in. But I'm not holding my breath.

So in the trailer the dude was carrying his fallen battle buddy... Can we finally carry our fallen back to the drop ship when things go south???

Yes, it's on the website.
Looks like they're incorporating some form of stealth element judging from the screenshots and the trailers, could be interesting.
The website states that there will be ambush tactics and stuff like that.

Yup, for all we know that was just a "scouting party" so to speak and when they got their ass kicked the aliens went "Well, guess we underestimated them. Time to go all out." and they just mobilized their entire army or whatever.
From a few of those in-game screenshots it looks like they really reworked proportions and the size of equipment in general, which was like my only gripe with the first one.
[editline]shit[/editline]
Okay maybe not for the human police dudes those rifles are still ridiculously huge
Anyone else hoping for proper language packs for each nationality?

What do you mean?
What do you mean?
I think he means accents or something.
I think he means accents or something.
I'd prefer each nationality to speak in their own language(Russians speak Russian, Egyptians speak Arabic, Japanese speak Japanese, etc.) for the flavor. But I'd settle for accents, and that would be the more realistic option, honestly.
Maybe multiplayer won't be tacked on last minute like last time!

I'd like that, but it would make a little more sense if different nationalities spoke English with their accents so that squad members can understand each other.
I think he means accents or something.
That and the fact that in EW there were only seven languages for dozens of soldier nationalities.

I mean, it's Firaxis, and they didn't have a problem recording voice clips for fifty different languages for Civ 5. It's in the realm of possibility.

It might mostly depend on how expensive the voice actors are though. The lines they would have to record could add up quickly.
Did they confirm Michael McCann was coming back for the soundtrack?
I'm convinced it's because of the massive influx of new pc purchases xcom received because of the Long War mod.
On the Nexus, the Long War has only 300,000 unique DLs.

Steam and retail PC sales combined is more than 3 million sales. So at best, only one tenth of XCOM owners on the PC play the Long War. Granted, one tenth of all players is pretty good, but I wouldn't go so far as to credit it with the PC version's success.
It's fucking XCOM: Red Dawn, while it kinda sucks that it means you end up losing Enemy Unknown by canon, I'm hyped as fuck for this. Full mod suite confirmed, too. This is a hell of an announcement.

Possible, but what could also be possible is that this was the "Greater threat" the High Ethereal was talking about.
Instead of attempting to conquer and destroy, this alien threat took the better approach, the long game.

Not necesarily, at the end of the trailer mr. baldman says "welcome back, commander", when in the losing cutscene, he's become a puppet to the aliens.
He sounds a bit.. different though so it might be a different guy or he got free from the mind control and that affected him?
Or someone else pretending to be him, he is just a scrambled voice and a messed up video after all.
XCOM defeat better not be the Cannon ending, they did that shit in Ufo aftershock and it did not Fly.
It pretty much says "Yes all that hard work and game play WERE a waste of time! Congratulations!"
Also, the Aliens in enemy unknown didn't seem too interested in cooperating. This may be a separate group entirely considering we haven't seen any returning aliens yet.

Also makes me wonder about the other named EU characters. Will we see the return of Shen/Central/Vahlen, or even fan favorites like Doorn?

The new pink thing is an "evolved" sectoid, and an Ethereal appears on an ad 42 seconds into the trailer.
Since the Council Rep is not an alien puppet, this leads to two possibilities - XCOM won, but what they took out was just a smaller scouting force and the main force utterly overwhelmed them, or XCOM lost, but somehow managed to break the council rep free of alien control.
Whatever the reason, the Earth is up shit creek.
Quite frankly I think the Temple Ship was a trap. Win or lose, we passed their test, and in doing so lost.
Hell, the Temple Ship only entered X-Com's awareness because they allowed it, why would they do that? It wouldn't make any sense unless they had an ulterior motive.
Plus the Volunteer is still alive, he/she wouldn't have had the ability to save themselves from that blast, so it must have been some higher power within the alien hierarchy.
Hell Vahlen even says that if the aliens weren't intent on giving XCOM "a fair chance", XCOM would have already lost.
My god, this is a glorious evening. Reeeeeally interested in seeing expanded melee capabilities, if not a melee class, jesus christ...
And pleeease, give MECs more dakka. From a sound engineering point of view, lasers and shit going pew pew is not very intimidating. Big, beefy fucking machine guns going dakkadakka IS.
Git hyped suckas, godDAMN!

And now its up to XCOM to finally break free the Earth. It also looks like the UN council that started the project still feels it needs to be completed.

With the flags on the back of uniforms, it looks like there's an occupation force, not an actual take over.
I think the meld was a Trap.

Why do you think the Volunteer is still alive?
