The sponsor page for Mars One lists 6 companies, with LulzBot being one of them. Good luck funding that multi-billion dollar project!
What if you decided to reenact the red faction series?
Miner rebellion? I'm in. I call being a miner. We'll kick the damn EDF scum off our planet, back to Earth where they belong!
It's actually Dutch, so America has no say in this.
Ah sorry, my bad.
In that case, I don't see how they're going to get the ESA/EU's permission. Or honestly, the permission of any first world country; one way trips to Mars doesn't seem like the sort of thing that would get approval, especially when it's a private space company with no track record or anything.
With all those people up there, they're going to need people with a background in law enforcement.
I'd volunteer if I thought they'd actually send me up.
With their bones degraded to complete uselessness for a while how are they going to sustain living on mars for more than a couple of days?

If the country they are in approves, I don't think they need anyone else's approval. It's not like anyone owns space yet.
I'd go if I get to be sent with 3 hot chicks
that'd be totally rad
turns out to be 3 very hot lesbians.
Never seeing my beloved house and sleeping on this comfy bed ever again? No thank you.
whitest post ive seen today
That's kind of depressing.
How would the last man bury himself?
I would do it.
turns out to be 3 very hot lesbians.
Still kinda rad.
There is a slim chance we will be able to do a return trip within their lifetime. It might still be possible for them to die on earth.
I am not sure if you guys realize this but you would weigh about a third the weight you would on Earth on Mars. So after living there like 5 or more years your bones and muscles would be much weaker, probably so weak that you wouldn't be able to go back to Earth even if we had the tech without feeling like a really old man/woman.
Though it would be cool to weigh 80lbs. I couldn't imagine how horrible it would feel to go back to Earth after you got used to Mars gravity.
What are they going to do whilst they are there?

If you got Instagram and Facebook and are able to get data that won't be a problem. Duck faces on mars...

As cool as this sounds...fuck that. I love planet Earth more...where i can actually fucking BREATHE, and you know eat food and drink water and live? This is a 6 month trip to die.
Also, you'd most likely get tired of being on a baren desert after a day, whats the point?

they're becoming part of history though, which is pretty big. I'd totally do it if I could.

after all, it's not like you're abandoning fun or anything
Four of them -- two men and two women -- are set to leave for Mars in September 2022, landing in April 2023.
on what a soyuz? theres no capsule or vehicle capable of 3 weeks of continuous occupation let alone the months of occupation involved in a mars trip. they're not going anywhere unless the person running this has a spaceship lying around, even then it would have to be big to accomidate all the equipment that colonists would need. like the advance of maritime ships, space ships need probably another 20 years of technological advancement to really be feesable, and none of the vehicles in development now are capable of a mars trip

Yeah I dunno...the fact that you'd never be able to go back would bothers me. This would be cool for maybe a week then go back or something.
If anyone of them were to have a baby, that baby would be a Martian. That blows my mind.

I don't think you would go on a 12 month round trip just to go to Mars for a week.
A reality show on mars?
Mars got talent?
Yeah I dunno...the fact that you'd never be able to go back home would bothers me. This would be cool more maybe a week then go back or something.
it's easy for me to day I'd totally do it as I wouldn't have much to leave here on earth. I understand what you mean though, it's always hard to leave so much behind when you're not even sure what awaits you on the “other side“

probably like having several large men standing on your shoulders.
shitty editor, *say

Still, who would want to die millions of miles away? I guess if you were terminally ill and were living on borrowed time already I could see that.
whitest post ive seen today
They dont have starbucks or mochas up there, plus how am i going to look on tumblr with no Wi-Fi????

For the people who want to do what no one else has ever done. Also if I was like 60-70 and could barely walk I think it would feel much better to weight a third of what you normally would.
