And then you have the weekly recap episode ending in cliffhangers. "The hull is breached, air is leaking out, what are the brave colonizers going to do? Find out next week, exclusively on the Mars One Channel"
Let's go die at Planet Utah. Mormons gotta love that place

There used the deserts here in Utah to run mock missions to Mars so study the affects of isolation. We even share some geological formations to boot.
I feel that a vast majority of the applicants would refuse to go if they were chosen
I'd love to be in charge of sending people to Mars. I'd build a Hip Hop society
what are you going to do when the metal planet invades
[editline]10th August 2013[/editline]
metalheads going to space would be fantastic it'd be just like kerbal space program

If I wasn't a father, I would definitely go if chosen.
The opening to Total Recall is enough to talk me out of ever going to Mars.
Imagine being someone in the future, when we have the technology to fully explore mars. Getting there you would find their graves..
Actually how would the human body degrade on Mars, if say they are buried? Would it be the same as Earth?
can you imagine if the water collection systems failed under something like a faulty generator?
and the 4 astronauts struggle to repair it but it's impossible without custom made parts? so, with video feed back to earth, they try and try, slowly running out of reserves of oxygen and water, with an emergency supply shuttle launched but a hopeless amount of time away, and the astronauts eventually die after running through their backup stores, and there's nothing the company could do about it from earth?
;_;
I'm fairly sure Nasa has triple redundancy on everything they launch
That's why they're sending 4 people up there, if one's faulty they can fall back to a spare :v:
"Shit! Who brought the water?"
"I thought you had it!"
they taking any cameras? it will make a good movie.
james cameron will go to mars for more avatar footage
on what a soyuz? theres no capsule or vehicle capable of 3 weeks of continuous occupation let alone the months of occupation involved in a mars trip. they're not going anywhere unless the person running this has a spaceship lying around, even then it would have to be big to accomidate all the equipment that colonists would need. like the advance of maritime ships, space ships need probably another 20 years of technological advancement to really be feesable, and none of the vehicles in development now are capable of a mars trip
The first Falcon Heavy is flying next year, and twice in 2015.
Dragon can carry 7 people and a load of cargo. First manned test in 2-3 years.
Wait, their sending 2 guys and 2 women? Are they going to send condoms with them or space suits for toddlers?

I heard that mars soil has sterilizing qualities to it, so it may take much much longer to decompose without the help of microbiology. IDK
I remember those 4 astronauts, they were on Doctor Who, they died because there were water aliens on mars that killed them :(
If you get sent to Mars, there's like no way that you'd die a virgin.
My Dad wanted to apply, but my mother veto'ed it. Shame, it would've been awesome to say that my Dad was a martian colonist.
This seems like a NEET thing to do :)
[editline]10th August 2013[/editline]
get it?
It'd suck to live on Mars, but to die there? I'm totally up for that.
I'd rather spend my life grumping on my computer and stack of retro games than farming space potatoes in Mars.
turns out to be 3 very hot lesbians.
turns out to be three hot gay guys.
Mars is cool and all but there is LITERALLY nothing there but dusty old fucking red rocks; why would you even want to live there until you die.
Sure, it sounds cool - but what do you do once you're there? it's just rocks. Rocks and no air.

Aeiou
Well, at least they won't be fully isolated. I mean sure, there is a hefty 5-minute delay in communication between Earth and Mars, but sending emails for example will probably be made possible.
I was thinking, if we just have one of those water purification places built on mars and then ship them gallons of seawater to convert into fresh water, they may start being able to sustain themselves.
Then the colony shall thrive so they can start harvesting the ores and creating jobs for people back on earth and creating frontiers on mars fighting martian natives for their land.
Until all that shit evaporates quickly because of the no atmosphere thing, and then all the water is lost into space.
There will totally be a space orgy within the first few months
what about toilet paper, how are they gonna get it there and the more people that go up means the more toilet paper is needed
