no shit i can tell that it's a storage device is used for storage but it's overkill
my 700gb steamapps would like to have a word with you
For the record, this is my Steam games drive: Source games stack up as well as games like The Elder Scrolls, Grand Theft Auto, etc. And Steam sales will guarantee a lot of space needed.
wait, wouldn't it be bad if they put the gfx card like that? wouldn't it most likely overheat?
no shit i can tell that it's a storage device is used for storage but it's overkill
just future-proofing themselves, games like GTA V are exploding X-box 360 HDDs right now, its safe to say at some point in the near future we'll have 100-200GB games (before DLCs and Mods) [editline]17th October 2013[/editline] plus 1TB HDDs are only like 70-80 bucks now
While I do agree there is no "too much" ram or storage. Having a psu with a too high wattage will make it run less efficiently. A psu runs most efficient at around 80%. If you know you won't upgrade its better to get something less.
Sub-$500 price tag and this wins the day. (I know this is impossible, but let me dream.)
I wonder what the 7seg is for.
If it hadn't been for incredibly cautious and conservative storage use, I'd have crossed the 1 TB lines years ago.
wait, wouldn't it be bad if they put the gfx card like that? wouldn't it most likely overheat?
Not if they put a vent with dustfilter on the bottom right at the gfx fan and chunky feet on the console. Although I can imagine the display showing a "please clearn air filter" warning alá what some video projectors do nowadays when the filter is clogged.

Kinda disappointed they weren't proper Steam Box photos, just regular PC parts laid out to fit those dimensions. I want to see if they use a custom motherboard design or not, maybe something designed to be modular? (like those Piston boxes, but bigger form factor)
oh god this is gonna be expensive as shit
They said cooling will be a challenge. And I can see that.
oh god this is gonna be expensive as shit
Have they announced a price yet, I haven't seen one but haven't really like either. I could see Valve selling it at a loss though, knowing that they'll almost certainly make up for it in sales on Steam itself.
If it goes sub 500$, Valve can pretty much just go and make themselves gold statutes. No seriously though, this makes "Next-Gen" consoles look like shitmobiles.

The absolutely insane thing about this is the fact that all of the specs will be as close to completely dedicated as you can get for a pc, considering how little power performance Linux uses. It still blows my mind that Linux doesn't need a hard drive to run, that it can simply run in your RAM, as long as you don't run any programs.
It's just a small form factor PC, what's with all the fuss? Just because it's from Valve I suppose.
Cool, a small form factor prebuilt PC, but because it's Valve of course we must hail it as the second coming of Jesus.
A small form factor PC with a Titan.
Which will cost 1500 dollars.
If it goes sub 500$, Valve can pretty much just go and make themselves gold statutes. No seriously though, this makes "Next-Gen" consoles look like shitmobiles.
Pretty sure the graphics card alone costs double that
Pretty sure the graphics card alone costs double that
Until nvidia or amd start subsidizing the costs for bulk/loyalty programs of some sort . Everyone behind this knows cost will be a huge, huge deal. [editline]17th October 2013[/editline] This is also a top of the line model too
I think Valve can afford to take a hit by subsidising the price of these to users. If they do then Microsoft and Sony will shit balls.
no shit i can tell that it's a storage device is used for storage but it's overkill
My Garry's Mod folder was over 300 GB at one point.
Pretty sure the graphics card alone costs double that
Depends on which graphics card, pretty sure the low end steam box is around ps4/one price, they don't all come with titans and i7s in them
no shit i can tell that it's a storage device is used for storage but it's overkill
That's all Steam games. I don't even have most of them installed, either.
I just don't like the idea of a console that you have to download the games to. I can own as many DVD's as I want, I can only own 1tb worth of downloaded material at any given moment. Can you upgrade the HDD?
no it's not, it's a drive dedicated to games. Games are big. You're going to want to install all of them on a dedicated device. honestly 1TB is conservative if anything.
i have 1tb of steam games installed, so its not overkill considering it's just built up to something that big over tons of sales, also considering newer games like Fish Ghosts is gonna be 60GB, I can see why.
What's that panel with the buttons and seven-segment display on that board, a little BIOS tester thingy?
What's that panel with the buttons and seven-segment display on that board, a little BIOS tester thingy?
Yeah, spits out an numbered error code that you can check in the manual.
