That's not how praying works.

You don't pray for someone to just go away, or for someone to get better. You pray for someone to come in and help get rid of violence, or for a doctor to do everything he can to help someone recover.

Many people expect prayer to be gods hand directly, many others expect something else. This is religion, and mythology, it's all up for debate so to say anything like that is "wrong" or not, or we're "misinterpreting" is kind of wrong when there's nothing that says we are.
