Isn't homosexuality considered a sin? So they're actually letting people who, by their own definition, will be condemned to Hell serve as clergy? So fucking assbackwards.
Then it will be the Clergy of Hell. Sick name for a band.
It sometimes gets on my tits how keen British people are to call the country shit, but actually I guess I prefer that to patriotism It got interesting last year because the Olympics made it remarkably hard for people to argue that this country is shit. We soldiered on all the same though
In a way it's better to complain constantly about the bad parts with the country so we get the idea that it should be fixed, instead of being all patriot like and only glorifying certain parts. Helps to improve the country in a way but the downside is we always fucking moan about something. We're good at moaning and queuing.
I wonder when there will be a serious debate about disestablishmentarianism. It's policy changes like these that show how weak the Church of England as an institution actually is.

Wait. wasn't the Church of England originally made so Henry the VIII could get a divorce? Or is that a myth.
Wait. wasn't the Church of England originally made so Henry the VIII could get a divorce? Or is that a myth.
Bascially true. He had a load of issues with the church so said "fuck it, I'll make the Church of England".
Wait. wasn't the Church of England originally made so Henry the VIII could get a divorce? Or is that a myth.
From what I can tell it existed before that but was under the authority of the Pope. King Henry separated it into an independent church in 1534 for the divorce thing http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_England#Secession_from_Rome

We pulled it off though
I always thought that the British Grumpyness is because they lose half of the world in the last century. I'd be grumpy too.
somebody needs to figure out what makes england such a perfect country, then spread it to the rest of the planet. seriously, why the hell is england always so far ahead of everyone else?
It's worse than you think, they are just a bunch of tea drinking robots that are controlled by imperialist scum government,i was there once and ran away as soon as i could.
I always thought that the British Grumpyness is because they lose half of the world in the last century.
If anything when you hear people talk about the Empire and shiz its always tinged with pride.
Y'know, if you think about it, who wouldn't.
About bloody damn time.
Y'know, if you think about it, who wouldn't.
Some people who studied it beyond comprehensive school.
yeah being progressive is so backward
Yes,but it's completely nonsensical when a religion tries to adapt to our current society. Because then they're technically redefining the word of ''god'',their greatest unchallengeable authority.
The Church has already agreed to allow people in civil partnerships to become clergy, provided they promised they would remain celibate, and repent for active homosexuality in the past. In July last year, the House of Bishops said it would review this decision, made in 2005, to decide whether it could also relate to bishops.
It looks like none of you actually read the article or you'd have read this part and realise it's still fucking bullshit. Don't start praising them for this.
somebody needs to figure out what makes england such a perfect country, then spread it to the rest of the planet. seriously, why the hell is england always so far ahead of everyone else?
We were so better off in Britain with our poverty and dumb-as-hell parliament.
We were so better off in Britain with our poverty and dumb-as-hell parliament.
your government just passed a pro gay law relating to the church of england. meanwhile in the U.S, politicians in the south fight to outlaw interracial marriage. and canada has just had the same stupid laws for a century and never changes anything. your ''poverty'' is nothing. I can't walk down the street without 6 drug addicts asking me if I have a spare cigarette, I live in a country where people CHOOSE poverty. you live in the country responsible for Sgt. Pepper
I always thought that the British Grumpyness is because they lose half of the world in the last century. I'd be grumpy too.
No we're grumpy because we have 1 day of summer a year.
The Bible is very vague about what is and is not a a sin
Although it's pretty damned clear what you should stone people to death for. Oh, Deuteronomy.

Pepper
Compared to America? Yeah we're pretty awesome, but we're statistically one of the worst countries in Europe. The Scandinavian countries generally do much better than us (lower crime rates, better equality, better politics and civil rights). There's also a phenomenal level of ignorance among a large part of the population here (see: The Daily Mail) which is symptomatic of our problems. Really the only thing we have to be globally proud of is our culture.
Really the only thing we have to be globally proud of is our culture.
And I'd argue that we shouldn't even be proud of that.
no I've never heard it being equated like that. If anything when you hear people talk about the Empire and shiz its always tinged with pride.
Probably because we're amazed we got away with it for so long.
I live in Virginia, you dolt. I was born in Edinburgh. I've been to London, it's fucking awful. And don't get me started about Liverpool and Yorkshire.
:/ not sure why you're calling me a ''dolt''... you said ''with our poverty and dumb-as-hell parliament.'' so you basically lied then called me out for believing you.
:/ not sure why you're calling me a ''dolt''... you said ''with our poverty and dumb-as-hell parliament.'' so you basically lied then called me out for believing you.
Because you thought I still lived in Britain. And also, because you have no clue how bad it was in England. I wouldn't know entirely, though, having been born in Scotland, with the entitled-as-all-hell Unions and labour parties.

I'm sorry you had to eat beans out of a can, but england is still a great country.
