oh god it just keeps getting better and better[/QUOTE]
Sounds like we might get to see some non-European wizards. I always did wonder how they did things in the US. We don't really have any cool castles.
This is a great surprise for me. I've been hoping for more Harry Potter universe lore, there's so much to do and I found that the movies and books didn't cut it.

Actually the Whomping Willow was in a gang called "The Catastrophic Copse." where it was a lieutenant under The Devilish Dogwood. It was there that he met the Terrible Timber Twins, who got cut down in the prime of their lives and made into Lawless Lumber. He also met his young sweetheart Beautiful Birch, but on the eve of their marriage a fire raged through the Great Grove and all he knew was destroyed.
should i read/watch harry potter i feel like i should probably get in on this whole "pop culture" thing

Read the books and then see the movies. The movies are great but you'll lose a lot of context and probably be confused if you watch them without reading the books. Later on in the series they gloss over a lot of details because the books become too much to cram into a two hour film.

I'd say do whatever you want, they're all very enjoyable books and films in my opinion - if you set aside the books and films and try not to compare them they're great. I wouldn't tell you to watch or read them in a specific order, do what you feel like - they're not the godsend to litterature or whatever but they're not bad, at all.
Haven't read the movies. Seen all the movies except the first one and can say that for the most part they're enjoyable. Except the 5th one, that movie was such a crock of shit I was extremely angry when it had the audacity to end.

Half blood prince was the worst movie as far as content compared to the books goes.

but the 5th movie was Order of the Phoenix, HBP was #6

I know that, I'm saying that the 6th is worst content-wise.

I would argue that Prisoner of Azkaban was the hardest to watch for me - they moved around so much of the story around that it was just a jumble of related instances with the primary plot devices shuffled around, made comedic, or outright removed from the story.

Prisoner of Azkaban was perhaps the most solid of the books; hard for a 2.5h movie to stack up to that experience.
I loved the the Prisoner of Azkaban book and thought the film was great toob but it was in my opinion very different to the earlier two films.
This sounds neat and I'm interested to see who will end up being the lead actor.
