Didn't you call someone a ten year old?
My depression was/is a chemical imbalance and there's not-so-expensive prescriptions to regulate chemicals
yes this is true, but not everyone is willing to go out and seek help. and their social conditions might not help them facilitate these drugs. some people need to be forced into this, and simply don't live in circumstances in which that is possible. i think that counseling and drugs are definitely the answer to depression, but it's hard to get people into counseling and getting them to take medication, to a lot of people it's incredibly degrading admitting they have a psychological problem.
archangel is suicidal and projecting his subsequent self-hatred

Well than, is there really anything we could actually do to help them? And if someone thinks it's a degrading thing to have a psychological problem, they're real poo-poo pants
archangel is suicidal and projecting his subsequent self-hatred
People who commit suicide for attention are little bitches and deserve no help hey shut up I was suicidal once you don't get it
On one hand, we've got a number of people in this thread who can't wrap their minds around the concept of mental illness, presumably because they've never experienced or studied it before. Depression and suicidal tendencies have nothing to do with attention-seeking. Attention-seeking is a sign of stunted emotional maturity or a deficit in intelligence, and can sometimes be seen accompanying depression and suicidal tendencies. Depression is not exclusive to a lack of self-esteem that requires a constant need for self-affirmation and affirmation from others, it's a chemical imbalance in the mind that saps the will to improve one's lot and makes one lose interest and enjoyment in life.
This woman was wrong. My old, now dead, friend was wrong. Because both of them went out of their way to make their friends as miserable as they thought they were. They used people who cared about them to fulfill their own sick fantasies.

this is an insightful argument and you totally just showed him, we are very proud of you.

looking at that post is also a good way to evaluate how inherently inept your posts are

Can we just agree there's always exceptions for suicidal people?

I try to phrase my posts in a way the person I'm responding to is likely to understand.

we could acknowledge that suicide is a problem and not take an accusatory stance over situations we don't understand. there are too many negative attitudes towards this person of the article, and you guys don't even know what happened. this creates a mindset that no one cares, and that these people are better off dead. stereotypes like this don't help people seek help, because at this point they are only made to feel more worthless.
and i'm not saying that some people aren't like what you described. it happens. but saying that is why someone is suicidal is making the problem incredibly worse.

I had to visit my suicidal friend in the hospital and I was the one who had to tattle when he started talking about school shootings. He is very annoying and attention seeking, yes, but I would not blame him or call him "scum". Contrary to what you want to believe, no, you're not the only one who has to deal with problems like that, and yes, you dealt with it worse.

I never agreed with archangel in that she was better off dead, I just think that what she did was extremely stupid and selfish. I have dealt with having suicidal tendencies, but I'm not going to want everyone to pity me while I'm killing myself.

I am condemning the act of making a friend watch as you kill yourself, which is clearly carried out with no other intent but to scar them and make them miserable to vindicate the perpetrator of the suicide act.
I try to phrase my posts in a way the person I'm responding to is likely to understand.
you're giving a "silent cowboy syndrome" kind of ordeal in my opinion

that's probably because you don't have a mental illness
I try to phrase my posts in a way the person I'm responding to is likely to understand.
So first you call someone a ten year old, and then you imply that they are intellectually inferior? then, at the same time say that doing such means you've 'lost the argument'
ok buddy
I am condemning the act of making a friend watch as you kill yourself, which is clearly carried out with no other intent but to scar them and make them miserable to vindicate the perpetrator of the suicide act.
Still, saying someone is better off dead is something else entirely different
I am condemning the act of making a friend watch as you kill yourself, which is clearly carried out with no other intent but to scar them and make them miserable to vindicate the perpetrator of the suicide act.
again, people with mental illnesses can't be held accountable for things like that
again, people with mental illnesses can't be held accountable for things like that
You clearly do not understand how such mental illness works.
I suffer from chronic depression. Your move.
Dysthymia is not as severe as major depression. Just because you have a form of depresison, that doesn't mean there aren't people who are far worse than you. It isn't that people don't want help, it's that they don't think they need it. One of the hardest factors in treating people with disorders is convincing them they need to get help in the first place. You're not superior so stop acting like you are.
You clearly do not understand how such mental illness works.
Irony.
that's probably because you don't have a mental illness
No, but mental illness or not, you're still the biggest asshole if you do that. That's like saying a psychopath shouldn't be held accountable even though he went on a genocide because he had a mental illness, the person still did it. They shouldn't be 100% accountable, but in some shape or form, they should.
I never agreed with archangel in that she was better off dead, I just think that what she did was extremely stupid and selfish. I have dealt with having suicidal tendencies, but I'm not going to want everyone to pity me while I'm killing myself.
that's understandable, but your case isn't exclusive. some people want pity while they are killing themselves because of their lack of being able to think rationally. it's hard to think of their mental state in a rational understanding.
Sociopath much?
Getting warmer... Oh, nope you're ice cold.
If you were different and you and everyone else knew it, and for most of your life you had been ridiculued, bitched at, punished, etc. just for what you are, then you'd dislike the human species too, my friend.
You clearly do not understand how such mental illness works.
you're pretending that others don't need help
snap out of your little fantasy world for a moment and put that gray matter to work
no other intent but to scar them and make them miserable to vindicate the perpetrator of the suicide act.
I'm pretty sure suicidal people don't go into their day actively thinking 'I'm going to make people suffer today.'
No, but mental illness or not, you're still the biggest asshole if you do that.
no not really
all you two are doing is shaming people who don't have control over their actions
that's understandable, but your case isn't exclusive. some people want pity while they are killing themselves because of their lack of being able to think rationally. it's hard to think of their mental state in a rational understanding.
Of course not, as reply to archangel, I said there was and still will be exceptions for everything. And, as said earlier, if they can't think rationally, is there anything that someone could do for a long-term success?
No, but mental illness or not, you're still the biggest asshole if you do that. This is essentially correct. Unless the mental illness is the sort that renders a person completely insane and out of touch with reality, they are still accountable for their actions. What the woman in the article did was a conscious choice, influenced, perhaps, to a small degree, by her lack of maturity and low self-esteem, mental ailments in themselves, but she was not FORCED to act the way she did. She demonstrated clearly that she cared more about her own delusion than the well-being of the friends she harmed.
It baffles me that people can become this twisted. What, at what point in their lives, went wrong in order for this to manifest in someone's mind.
