Why can't they just accept the Valve model? Make the gameplay stuff free and let the people buy cosmetics.
Usually I don't care for 30 to 60 fps in many genres, but 60FPS is important in racing games, especially if it's chaotic/or a lot of attention required. Also
The creative director states that it's "Not Good news, I'm afraid."
Apologizing for your own dumb decisions doesn't make it good, it doesn't even make it a little better
The game will also feature peer-to-peer and will have host migration.
Fantastic my university doesn't support P2P, and even if it did, who would want host migration in what's possibly an MMO? This is just shameful.
Because games have progression. You don't blow your whole load at once or else the user gets the most powerful thing in the game, uses it until they get bored, and then put it away never to be seen again. Just like nobody's first car is a Mustang Mach 1 in real life. You start small and with the basics, then move up the line as your skills improve.
Games are about doing stupid/fun/satisfying shit with things, themes or settings that no normal human being could ever get in real life. A company doesn't (and shouldn't) give a rat's ass if players break progression to have fun, unless it breaks multiplayer balance or the company intends to exploit this forced progression to get players to cough up more cash.
Its a shame that because so many games use them poorly/as a thinly veiled pay to win scheme that "will have microtransactions" turns off so many people. Seeing how its Ubisoft and remembering what I read regarding multiplayer in I think Assassin's Creed 3, it almost definitely will amount to "play the game for years to unlock everything or pay extra to use top tier stuff from the get go". I bet in "classic" Ubisoft fashion the PC version ends up delayed and runs horribly too.
Isn't this supposed to be F2P anyways?
Nope. It's $60.

Why is it your business? I bought the game let me do what I want. Anyway Ubisoft don't care about progression since there are cheats to unlock everything. It just costs real money to use them.
How to loose customers and go bankrupt quickly in 4 easy steps 1) lock fps for PC players 2) add transactions to a none-free to play game 3) add intrusive DRM 4) release game>go bankrupt
I don't care about 30FPS. To me it's playable at 30+ and isn't jumpy, but the microtransactions and DRM are where I draw the line.
Fuck you ubisoft I was looking forward to this and wanted a next gen system for it.
Well. There goes another game down the shitter and onto the boats of various others who plunder booty.

Ha, wow. How did I know this game sounded too good to be true? I mean I just knew there was going to be SOMETHING about it to detract from all the hype they built about this game.
It's Ubisoft, they never learn. This is hardly the first time they've been pressured into dropping draconian DRM, only to try and quietly sneak it back in when they think nobody is paying attention. P2W is hardly surprising from a company with a long history of shitting on their customers. See also, EA.
welp look's like I won't get this game then.
.
Literally every time this game is mentioned I think it's "The Division", I am happy that isn't the case.
the game is literally ruined, what the fuck.
getting fucking sick of this shit

Wasn't The Crew designed to be an MMO to begin with? http://www.polygon.com/2013/6/10/4412894/the-crew-is-ubisofts-social-racing-gambit
When you buy the game the clerk who rings you up has been paid by Ubi Soft to kick you in the balls
And it's not like almost every game in the past 5 years hasn't had micro transactions to skip in-game progress. Most of today's consolers are ADHD and want everything now, so might as well exploit that. The people who play the game for the game itself can level up normally.
Sure, but what does "level up normally" mean? It means whatever the developer decides it means. If they think that they can manipulate you into dropping some extra cash on a game you already paid for, what reason do I have to trust that they won't modify the progression of the game to do so? Remember when grinding was a design flaw, not a feature?
Goddamn you, why can't we just simply play the game without any of these money-grubbing bullshit? [editline]9th April 2014[/editline] At least piece of shit like NFS Rivals doesn't have one.
It's not DRM, the game does drop-in/drop-out multiplayer, you need an always on server connection to support that (Otherwise you turn each system into a server and then you get other issues) Of course, if you can turn off the multiplayer option, it shouldn't need a connection, but that conflicts with the micro-transactions (Which there are neat ways to solve, but which would annoy users even more)
NO! Potentially a Title i was going to play, Ruined! Don't do this to The Division, ubisoft!
It's a racing game, of course there is going to be grind. There's grind in Battlefield, or TF2 as well. Or you can skip the grind and pony up the cash.
Exploiting the consumer's patience is extremely low.
Fuck The Crew, we need some GTA5 on PC... And don't tell me you didn't perceive micro-transactions, cmon now :D
It's a crying shame too, because this is a racing game that's a bit more than your average "I pimped out my grandma's VW Golf" that we previously saw in arcade racers. This is the first AAA racing title, simulation or arcade, where you can strip the vehicle down to it's chassis and physically see each part. Sure, the game doesn't have physics like Forza or Gran Turismo, but neither of those games have the level of vehicle customisation that this promises. I like to think of The Crew as the Forza Horizon that everyone expected, but didn't get. You can customise headlights and taillights, for fucks sake. I don't think i've seen that since Midnight Club 3 or Underground 2.
We come full circle now... assassin's creed 2 was the beginning, and now it begins again with this pathetic piece of shit game... WAS going to be good, until you add in these draconian methods and now it's Simcity all over again.
And yet Ubisoft always seems to make more money, and so they think this method is working
