But you could have spent less and spent the left over money on donations to charity or to buy little Timmy that operation he's been needing to get for a while now.
Oh, and you sent that money to the world's most evil company. Well, largest evil company.
Apple donates a small portion of their profits to poor Chinese factory workers. :)
This isn't really sensational..
Apple products are made for consumers and only for consumers while other companies make phones for whoever. The open source bit really gives Andoid phones the edge for practical use within companies and such that demand they have the ability to mess around with the phone.
I read the title and thought for a moment that we had invented a war robot or something.

but we have

many times
Simple, they can't afford to sign a contract such as Apple's, they'd be mass-screwed.
Even before entering I just knew the OP would be mass-rated winner. But hey - keep on hating while I enjoy my device I earned with my own money.
I bought my android phone with money I worked for.
Also, noone is hating iPhone yet.
Not to worry, Apple will have them sued out of existence soon enough, and the DoD will be forced to use iPhones.
Just imagine. Apple getting the balls to sue the DoD. Would be fucking hilarious if their lawyers were that lawsuit happy.
They will, watch
Even before entering I just knew the OP would be mass-rated winner. But hey - keep on hating while I enjoy my device I earned with my own money.
So how did it feel to spend your entire life savings on something that is going to be outdated within 6 months to 1 year?
why is it a setback for the iPhone?
because they won't get bloated military contracts
of course I don't think they were ever actually trying to get the contract so

are you trying to troll?
Just imagine. Apple getting the balls to sue the DoD. Would be fucking hilarious if their lawyers were that lawsuit happy.
It's not about having the balls, it's that they have absolutely no case.
Mean while in Canada, we seem to be using Blackberrys
My dad was just issued, its fancy.

No offense, but if you're impressed by a BB then a Android phone or the newest iPhone would make you jizz your pants out of pure excitement.

i remember when if you had a blackberry in america it meant you were a hotshot businessman
now blackberries are for trophy wives and real estate managers that are on the verge of suicide
why is it a setback for the iPhone?
This is being rated dumb but it is a legitimate question.
Even before entering I just knew the OP would be mass-rated winner. But hey - keep on hating while I enjoy my device I earned with my own money.
Premeditated butthurt, impressive.
I imagine that technology in the military takes a lot of time to handle because of bureaucracy.
This.
I'm part of an Army Signal Unit. We have communications equipment still in use that was introduced in the nineteen-eighties.

Is upgrading stuff really needed though? If a radio from the 80s works fine and continues to do its job does it really need to be replaced?
I can't imagine its easy to have a massive organisation (of any sort, military, government or just a business) using the latest tech.

There's also that thing about some of the 80's tech showing all promise of working another 30 years, while some modern gadgets break down every six months.

whoopy fucking doo
This is being rated dumb but it is a legitimate question.
And I answered it
DoD = lodes emone
'of course I don't think they were ever actually trying to get the contract so'
And that's the only reason you'd ever need.
Some people are gonna call me a hypocrite for posting from a machine running win7, but I need my daily Skyrim and GTA EFLC fix :saddowns:
To be honest, open source itself isn't that important for the majority of situations. It's very useful if you are someone like the military who wants to make very specific changes and controll as much as possible, but it usually brings no benefits to you as a user.
In essence - open source - good for organisations, brings little to no benefit to users.
Android 2.2, do they really have to be outdated? :v:
There's banks running machines with windows 3.1 just because they have a bunch of software custom designed for it and tested on it.
Good, now they need to allow HTC to continue selling.
:(
They've already got a potential work around for the ban
boring organizations want boring phones

isn't the DoD run mostly by rebuplicans anyway?
Oh, and you sent that money to the world's most evil company. Well, largest evil company.
uhm, what about companies that kill cats and kittens for their fur.
or oil companies.
or military industrial companies.
So how did it feel to spend your entire life savings on something that is going to be outdated within 6 months to 1 year?
If your entire life savings amounts to $200, then you have a lot more problems than just an outdated phone.
There's really nothing here that you could sue over, even if you were just being greedy. They would have to really pull something out of their ass.
This IS Apple we're talking about here.
