that leopard tweet is more relevant every single day
It really is the perfect tweet to sum up this presidency so far, especially regarding the healthcare situation.
If only there were a crystal ball that people can look into when they enter the voting booth.
“[Trump] did say the good people would not be deported, the good people would be checked,” Helen said.
These people actually vote
I thought people got a residency permit if they married a US citizen
from anicdotal testimony, if you have any scrap of the paperwork wrong your spouse's case dies, if you even accidentally lie and they find out, its game over. our immigration system is increadibly cruel and broken that its easier for h1-B visa holders to bring their families here than it is for US citizens or naturalized citizens.
In case anyone isn't aware, there's an entire tumblr dedicated to cataloging Trump voters publicly broadcasting their buyer's remorse once they see what the cheeto they elected is actually doing with the job they gave him. [t]https://68.media.tumblr.com/f92c523c3d277e48c7f1132801570d21/tumblr_omztiwvNvW1w1aom0o3_1280.png[/t] So many people upset that their face has been eaten after voting for the Eating Faces Party. There are even some sad stories of a Trump voter fearing that their illegal-immigrant S.O. is going to be deported despite them voting for the man who vowed to do exactly that, just like this thread OP's situation.
even though this is awful for being so cherry picked and intrusive, i can't help but laugh. and cry. cry laugh.

I was expecting him to be pretty bad before he got elected, then I thought it might not be so bad because for the first few days it really looked like he was going to work with the left - but now it appears he's really not willing to work with anybody. I'm actually impressed at how inept his government is.
no, you get fast-laned for it though
'Fast laned' is still a nearly 6-12 year wait, however.

My brother in law held an H1-B when he married my sister back in 2005. It took her multiple trips to the consulate after marriage before she was finally allowed to join her husband in the US and almost 2 years after that when she was allowed to be gainfully employed. Its quite tough and emotionally draining to try and set up a household as a new married couple after a few years of working and not being allowed to work at a point when expenses are likely to be high. For context, they just became American citizens this month (March 2017) after almost 12 years of being there. Now, if the sibling sponsorship option was still available (I believe its phased out now), if they were to attempt to sponsor me for a green card, I wouldn't be processed or even see a green card until I was pushing forty. Every time you have a life milestone, i.e. you get married, you have kids, you need to notify the USCIS and the file is essentially sent to the back of the line again. By contrast, Im near the end of my Permanent Residency immigration process to Canada, which took almost a year. Once I hold PR status for four odd years, I become eligible for Canadian citizenship which means that before I reach 37, I am likely to be a full Canadian citizen. The US immigration system is horrifically broken and as much as I would like to argue the point that illegal immigration is bad and should be a major issue, the problem is that the legal pathways to immigration are currently locked in the mire of bureaucracy and backlogs.
You do not need to be a citizen to own a business. You do, however, have to have all of the documentation from immigration, in order to own said business. Basically you have to be here legally, and have the "right to work" (you can't be here on a student visa)
That's what I don't understand. The steak guy in question was said to have 'obtained documentation to work in the country and checked in with ICE each year', so how come he's illegal now?
That's what I don't understand. The steak guy in question was said to have 'obtained documentation to work in the country and checked in with ICE each year', so how come he's illegal now?
Best guess: Because he failed to deport himself as he was instructed to do. That moved his once voluntary self-deportation to "final order of removal", meaning ICE could detain him but apparently didn't for reasons unknown. Possibly because he made a plea-bargain at some point and provided good enough evidence to prove to ICE he's actually being a useful and helpful member of society and not just chillin' out on welfare, dealing out his backyard, or any other of the negative social things one could do. It's not that he's an illegal in the traditional border-hopping then hide-low sense, but rather it's because he failed to actually follow through with the terms he signed. He fully agreed to voluntarily leave the country, he just never did. That - I believe - is why he's being deported. Although ICE's seemingly sudden decision to act NOW, may be because of cheeto-mc-donald's push for all the immigration stuff.
