Total War Warhammer is racking in the reviews and scoring high compared to Rome II
Yes they are. I don't give a shit if it expires a week after release. After a week they become dlc. It's still meant to pressure consumers into an irrational decision.
They're literally chopping up content they had at release to sell separately. That's day 1 dlc.
That's not day 1 DLC though. Day 1 DLC means you don't get a chance to see reviews before you buy it because you buy it on release. I get the sense that you would be okay with DLC if the company just lied about it's development and announced it a few weeks after release. Which is arbitrary and no one gets it for free in that scenario.
What if the game has issues on release though? Then you're torn between keeping the game and hoping for patches, or getting a refund but having to buy the DLC if you re-buy the game when it's fixed.
Refund fixes that what if scenario in it's entirety.

No it doesn't? The limited-time free DLC encourages you wait for patches instead of getting a refund right away, that was my point.
I don't think it's as big a deal as pre-order DLC, but I agree with thrawn2787 in that it still puts some pressure on the customer.

The official statement by CA is that they devoted extra resources towards chaos being playable. Keep in mind each playable faction plays by different rules unlike any other total war game. This is why you can't play as Bretonnia on the campaign map despite them being present in the game. They want each playable faction to be unique instead of generic like in all other total war DLC packs.
I personally get a little frustrated that people basically toss out the entire game because of something that CA actually conceded mostly on.
I get the sense that the reason they sent review copies to a lot of Total War youtubers is that these were the same people who were critical of Rome 2 in order to reinforce confidence in their product on launch.
I don't think this is nearly as sinister as people want me to believe.

Yes chaos are a pre order bonus / first week bonus.
All the footage I've seen still shows a lot of animation locking. Especially with larger units vs smaller units.
Larger units have attack animations that are indeed locked because they are dramatic kill animations. But the majority of units are not locked.

So essentially SEGA are being stingy, I mean I guess that's probably because so much of their profits was built on their dead sonic franchise so they have no money left.
Good, hopefully this convinces Creative Assembly to branch out a little with Total War and try non-historical settings.
i know it will never happen but total war: Halo please

And honestly, with Warhammer at least Games Workshop has part of that pie as well. Originally there weren't going to be mod tools at all, or workshop support because CA said that it wasn't just their property.
Then a couple of weeks ago they announced very suddenly that they were dropping basic modding tools on release day (with the hope of releasing the rest down the line) and that they were working with some big name modders to let them get mods out Day 1.
If only they have the rights to make Total War: LotR.
Honestly, I'm pretty turned off by the lords - it looks totally ridiculous with them running around doing stupid shit. It works in Warhammer because of the unit size, and it kinda works when they're on a huge beasts, but mostly it just looks dumb, and I don't like the gameplay of having a singular character that is just a bullet sponge. Give them a bodyguard, maybe even a small one, but just something.
I just don't know if people are willing to understand the huge bug that's in the game right now

I can't believe Creative Assembly let such a massive bug slip through their coding
[sp]joek[/sp]
But yeah, I think Warhammer looks nice, but I'm too burned on their DLC practices and lack of lizardmen.

False.
Day 1 DLC means DLC available on day 1. And this is DLC available day 1. Its just free for the first week.
Preorder bonus is what you're thinking of. They're still chopping up their game and selling it to you in pieces, so its day 1 DLC. Instead of pressuring you to preorder its pressuring you to buy in the first week (when their sales figures most likely matter most). And since this is a CA game it'll be before the patches come in making the game actually playable.
Which, cool, i accept your viewpoint, but i don't think it has as much merit when the consumer can buy this on day one, literally play the chaos DLC for 2 hours (bearing in mind, its just campaign mode with units that function differently.) refund it if they don't, then buy the product at a later date, for cheaper, and then chose not to buy it.
And you have Valve/Steam to thank for refunds, not CA.
The chaos dlc cannot be purchased separately, so you cannot refund it separately. And if you did then you'd get locked out of chaos grand campaign, online, and skirmish, so its not just a little campaign.
Literally nothing changes that this is content they had on day one but removed from the game to package separately. With only 5 factions its a big deal. When they did this with the total war games and made some stupid little non unique nation state a preorder bonus it wasn't a big deal.
