Borderlands The Movie Announced - Because Video Game Movies Always Succeed

They either have to go the telltale way or just make it an absurd violent fun action movie
Play Tales from The Borderlands my friend. It'll give you a far better taste
What's it like, is it more serious or just actually funny again? The only friend of mine who's played it is pretty much incapable of critical thinking, so I wouldn't know from him if it was bad. I remember that game kind of sinking under the radar alongside the GoT version for whatever reason.

There are some serious moments, but Tales definitely draws from comedy more than anything.

TFTB is fantastic. It can take itself serious when it needs to, but it's just a good lighthearted adventure that genuinely really funny. Great characters, great writing, great use of the setting, it's personally one of my favorite Telltale games.
Far better than Telltale's GoT game, to boot. Shame most people see that one and don't pay attention to TFTB.
The three folks above me described it well.
It manages to be funny, and have it's serious moment AND have those serious moments mean something, rather than Burch's drama for the sake of having some in a mindless shoot n loot.
It would have to be funny, violent and crazy as shit.
OK, I've decided this will only work if Mr. Torgue is the main protagonist.
Or Krieg, I'd be so down for that.
Oh boy, memes: the movie. Must be the Pixels sequel we all clearly want.

So I guess your familiarity with the series is pretty much just hearing it's full of memes?
It's really not.

Didn't play it for the same reason. Before even Hellgate London was a thing, my dream game was an FPS with Diabloesque loot. I was super excited for BL2 given, because I thought they just needed to build upon the base of BL1 and perfect the formula, and for most of the first playthrough I thought they had. But then major problems with the loot balance and variety, and downright mind-boggling end-game design decisions , became apparent. Still, I thought that all these problems are pretty easy to fix, surely everything will be polished out in the DLC, if not a patch. Half way through the second DLC I realized that not only had they not made the game any better, but had doubled down on some of the awful ideas. It was so close to being there, and yet held so far back by a few awful, easily fixed problems. And now every time I see stuff like this, I think about how pumped I could be if I wasn't instantly reminded of the crushing disappointment.

They're there, but not in your face.
The shitty writing of Anthony Burch that is the main plot of BL2, is in your face :v:

It is though...
To be honest, so far the vast majority of things Borderlands were a pretty damn great success, I mean if I'm half as impressed by the movie as I've been by Tales of the Borderlands (aka if they put it in the hands of people who know how to toy around in that universe to its fullest), I'll consider it a success.
great they can rip-off the artstyle from that short movie they originally ripped it off from even more
It is though...
It is not.
It has a handful, and most of them are tucked away.
It is though...
No it's really not.
This could work very well if they followed in the steps from Tales.

Like, if you ignore the graphical quality and replace it with live action then it could very much just be the opening for a Borderlands TV show.
That's just lifeless.
The fuck is wrong with Telltale's animations? Looks like something out of garry's mod.
The only game from them i can stand is Poker Night. I genuinely wonder if it's a stylistic choice, but i gotta doubt it.

They hand-animate everything in the engine. It's stupid but it's their thing. It's always been like that, too, so I don't know where you've been. Even then, that's not the point of their games or the post you're replying to (the dude even said "ignore the graphical quality").

Part of me assumes that they're actually stretching their budgets thin with all of their projects and that they'd rather put out more than devote their resources to polishing one game. Whether or not that's a good idea? I dunno.
I mean Telltale's game can be pretty great, but I can't help but imagine how much better they'd be with proper animations. Like the intro scenes for TFTB are very fun to watch and I look forward to them almost as much as I do the rest of the episodes, but yeah... They just look lifeless.

It's actually... Not.
the meme shit only really showed up in Borderlands 2 (can't speak to pre-sequel though, I haven't played it). It was pretty much nonexistant in 1. I can't even think of a single meme in it offhand. Even then when it comes to Borderlands 2 they're typically reserved for quest, challenge, or ability names, or occasionally item descriptions. It's not as common as you'd think to see it end up in the actual story proper. Not that there aren't problems there. The meme usage is the least questionable part of Borderlands 2's writing.

Still lifeless if i ignore the animation quality.
Following the Intro from Borderlands 1 would be a way better fit:

Ep1 and Ep2's intro did a better job of it IMO. I mean it's not the same style as BL1's, but I don't necessarily consider that a bad thing.
Another thing is they have better context leading up to the intro. TFTB does a great job of leading into their late title cards. At least 1, 2 and 4 did. 3 just kinda kicked it off cold. And with BL1 and 2 they're just a cinematic at the start. TFTB needed to throw in an intro scene after gameplay without disrupting the story or the pacing. In that regard I think the intros all do a damn good job of it.
