If you take the yearly payments you're retarded. You still get taxed the same as lump sum the only difference is you don't have all of the money. In Florida, tax on lottery winnings is 25%. Fucking shitlords.
yeah, I get the whole taxes shit, but it's good if you feel like you're going to go fucking nuts over the money and dump it after 4 or 5 years it at least prevents you from going overboard. the typical lottery winner goes through their winnings in ~5 years (from what I've heard)
i once bought a lottery ticket and when the numbers showed up i got 1 then thunderball draw came on and i got all of them (wrong draw lol)
So i'm hearing the winner actually was a millionaire before winning.
...what the fuck. Care to cite something?
Probably false information.
I think I might give 50% of it away, maybe.... I feel sorry for this guy though
Just saying, if I won $640M i'd find that guy and give him $1M just cause I felt so bad for him.
I'd keep 80M for me and my family and donate the rest to NASA so they can work on space travel. :v:

Its strange to think that you have as much chance of winning of you put down 1 2 3 4 5 5 7 rather than random numbers, yet you always feel that doing say 3 12 23 28 and so on is a safer bet.
i'd love for them to come on tv tomorrow and announce that the numbers were actually very different and nobody won "april fools!"
Damn. My family entered this. We were gonna use the money to get the fuck out of New Jersey.
Um no, it's not retarded to take the 26 annual payments. You end up with much more money at the end, even after taxes. And you don't have the chance of blowing it all on something stupid and having nothing left. With the lump sum, it's like $460 million and then taxes out of that. With the annual payments, you get the full $640 million and then taxes out of that.
except in 26 years you'll lose a huge chunk due to inflation
Damn. I live in Canada, when i heard it was $500 million i sad faced :( lotteries in canada never get that high, i think the highest was like 50 million or something?
Cheers to them for winning an entire lifetime of prosperity, but it'll be sad to know people who get such crazy amounts of money in such a short interval are likely going to blow it all on ridiculous and pointless things just because they can, most of them they might not actually need. Maybe a huge estate or two, a bunch of cars they won't be using, everything they see and smell and touch. I reckon they'll go crazy and just buy for the sake of it. Sensible people would make sure that money would be there for them and the following generations to ensure each family member is guaranteed a full, happy life. However, family members mooching off the winners is a problem too, maybe. Humans are greedy fucks, that's for sure.
That is so painful to look at.
Well think about it, it happens like 16 times more than actually winning in lottery. It can be over or under the number.
I want to see the person who is able to blow 640 million on useless shit.
One person could blow all of that money in a lifetime if they really tried. Another person could have that last generations and each of their family members could live very happy and worry free lives. i'd probably be somewhere in the middle

You're shit out of luck then bub. I'll take my money lump sum and dump it into a savings account thank you. I'll be damned if I win money and after like ten twenty years have someone tell me "Well the money is gone sir" [editline]31st March 2012[/editline]
Um no, it's not retarded to take the 26 annual payments. Annuity payments are taxed the same rate as lump sum.
I heard one of the winners posted all over her Facebook and twitter. Yeah, I think she'll be in for a deadly awaking.
Taxes, lol.
Heh, me and my dad saw how high the Mega Millions jackpot was the other day while driving to Washington, Didn't think whoever won it would get into the news
I heard one of the winners posted all over her Facebook and twitter. Yeah, I think she'll be in for a deadly awaking.
I'll be sure to call the police on you once she's dead.

I wouldn't tell anyone sans the Lotto guys that I won until I had an army of financial and legal advisers, a team of lawyers equatable to Apple, and the money in a secure bank account.
just
Compared to the final jackpot of 656 million(before taxes).
Taxes are the biggest load of shit in this case.

Quit my job and say I'm living on the inheritance of some distant relative.
Wow for that kind of money, 640 million dollars, I could buy 1/30th of a space elevator and still have enough money left over for a sandwich with ham and cheese.
In response to the photo my friend posted the other day... I knew it.
