I don't see what's wrong with 1000 people leading a country provided they were elected and represent their people properly. Sounds like a good plan to me. It sure beats picking a single family to be the permanent rulers because they have magic blood and excluding everyone else from ever possibly filling that position.
No-one in this country cares about that though, everyone thinks it's silly that the monarchy exists because of the divine right of kings and that's not why people support it. As I said people in this country support the Monarchy because it's a cultural icon, it sets us apart from the majority of the countries in the world, it's a rally point for patriotism and national pride. Yes, logically speaking we should no longer have a Monarchy, but fuck logic it's pretty cool to have one.
Back to the subject, is it weird that the Spanish will riot about even the slightest bit of news concerning them. The article doesn't even say why they are calling for reform just that people have taken to the streets
As a Spanish person I think the king doesn't do a shit, his family takes the money and they just "represent" us. I would rather live in a republic.

they're not rioting
Wow people are actually complaining about the British monarchy ?
I get that you're all into big ideals and shit but here's big news for you, a Monarchy isn't instantly a terrible thing just because it puts someone on a bigger seat of importance than you, which in the case of the UK isn't even that big of a deal because the royal family can't do shit.
And before you pull out the whole "earning power through family lineage is unfair" ordeal, guess what, that shit's still happening in democracies as well, so that's not even a good argument.
ITT: Monarchs are a social minority we should protect.
Check your privilege plebian scum.
Solution: Elective monarchy
they're not rioting
They are rioting because we've been spending millions on a family that is supposed to represent us when they go hunting elephants in the middle of a crisis and commit fraud one way or another, and right now it's the perfect moment to make their voice heard about how we don't want a figurehead anymore (and don't compare us with the UK, nobody comes here because "they have a king and that's so cool").
But in reality, every monarchy in history has been at the center of oppression and political domination for thousands of years.
So the current monarchs of Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Belgium and the Netherlands are ruthless dictators that have done nothing but drag their countries into the ground?
Or do you have this stick up your ass like most Americans who hear the word "Monarchy" and then begin freaking out about "muh republic"
Ah that clears things up, guess incompident and corrupt governments extends to Spain's monarchy
Wow people are actually complaining about the British monarchy ?
Actually I brought it up as a point of comparison and Kondor got all offended and started talking about the British monarchy.
I get that you're all into big ideals and shit but here's big news for you, a Monarchy isn't instantly a terrible thing just because it puts someone on a bigger seat of importance than you, which in the case of the UK isn't even that big of a deal because the royal family can't do shit.
To be fair, the president of the us has actually done something to get in the position
Monarchs are cool though
Yeah, he got paid a huge amount of money from massive corporations to fuel their agenda :D
It's weird how America get's brought up in a lot of the news threads that doesn't concern them at all.
Haha really? Even if that were true, the very existence of a monarchy is wrong. But in reality, every monarchy in history has been at the center of oppression and political domination for thousands of years. This is like saying "the Vatican hasn't done anything wrong" because there's a new Pope.
monarchies are basically just state funded tourist attractions. they also bring in a lot of money.

When trying to promote the Monarchy, I recommend you don't use Charles II of Spain as your avatar :v:
Get rid of it. It's an utterly ridiculous institution to have in the 21st Century. And Spain doesn't even have the phony tourism excuse that British people use.
woa look out spaniards, guess this guy knows how to run your country better than you do ;o

Shit guys, we better get rid of capitalism too because of all this inequality it's generating.
Saying that "republics also have inequality" is not an argument. Why don't you actually address the points being made instead of deflecting?
Oh hey, people speaking for others about what government they should use.
Seriously, let the people of that country decide and let them choose to rule themselves or be ruled over.

Its an ideological debate. We're simply discussing the pros and cons of different forms of government. I don't see what is so wrong about that.

It's painfully easy to tell you haven't a clue about how it works here
It's not a huge deal here, there is no extra power, it's essentially all for show, it doesn't affect anyone's lives. The queen is as about as powerful as any other millionaire here
Perhaps you watched Game of Thrones then assumed the UK looks the same
With exception to the Vatican, European monarchies tend to not have any control over the country, and instead that is done by democratically elected governments; hence: there is no issue with having a monarchy in these countries. (And in the case of the Vatican, there is also no issue either, since that's how the Catholic church has traditionally worked)
Get rid of it. It's an utterly ridiculous institution to have in the 21st Century. And Spain doesn't even have the phony tourism excuse that British people use.
You need to calm down.

The Prince of Liechtenstein has a substantial amount of executive power.
