Yeah, this is exactly why we need to find out how to stop aging. We need 100 year olds that can still take care of themselves and work if they need to.
who the fuck wants to work at 100 you see this is why people need to not rely on the pension and build a decent retirement fund. why should you only stop working when the government allows you to? i dont want to spend my whole life working.
I'd rather keep active than sit in a house all day complaining about everything.
tbh by the time i'm 100 i'll probably be sick of life anyway, i'm pretty bored of it already.
tbh by the time i'm 100 i'll probably be sick of life anyway, i'm pretty bored of it already.
If you're bored, you're doing life wrong.
the queen is going to be sending a LOT of cards!
Sadly I feel I won't be one of those people :frown: However is medical science carries on the way it is hopefully I'll be able to do it artificially.
tbh by the time i'm 100 i'll probably be sick of life anyway, i'm pretty bored of it already.
you probably aren't doing anything
Yeah, this is exactly why we need to find out how to stop aging. We need 100 year olds that can still take care of themselves and work if they need to.
We don't need to stop aging, there's already too many people on the planet.
Quality over quantity!
I really need to wear my glasses, I read the title as "1 in 5 Burritos live up to 100."
Live to age 100? Unfortunately they can't go any further because they get beaten by chavs
1 my mum 2 my brother 3 my other brother 4 my sister 5 me yay
Why would you WANT to live for 100 years
Baby steps. This is very intriguing news, just consider the initial life expectancy of those who lived to be 100.
Living til your circulatory system pumps dust is all fine and dandy but I'd rather have the money put into regenerative techniques instead of life extension techniques.
Why would you WANT to live for 100 years
I want to live for like a 1000 years so that I can do everything
I want to live for like a 1000 years so that I can do everything
Then you'll find more things to do and die before you can do them. I'd only give immortality a shot if it had a "cancel" button I could press at any time. (Assuming it's true immortality where nothing could kill me, otherwise I could find some other way to do it)
This is bad there will be more old people driving on the rouds
Figure out immortality and make everyone infertile, world sorted.
Figure out immortality and make everyone infertile, world sorted.
FOR FUCK SAKE NO!!! INFERTILITY ISN'T THE FUCKING SOLUTION!! Colonise other worlds, we already have the ability, if we all became immortal then we'll have the purpose.
Planet colonization is the only way to support a civilization that doesn't die/has a life expectancy in the centuries without resorting to wars or any kind of population control. Basically if we create immortality before perfecting planet colonization and space travel we're probably fucked.
This is bad there will be more old people driving on the rouds
nobody drives in britain anymore its p. irritating because all of the chavs take up pavement space now [editline]31st December 2010[/editline] cant walk anywhere
The longer you're kept alive, the longer the Government can keep you working.
You only work for 65 or so years, after that you retire [editline]31st December 2010[/editline]
Why would you WANT to live for 100 years
Why the fuck not
Why the fuck not
because it's all fine and dandy now but when you pretty much have no control in your life, shit doesn't seem so awesome anymore I'd only want to live to 100 if there were euthanasia laws, which means I can live until I feel like I am no longer curious to see what is around the corner.
My Great Grandmother died in December, aged 106.
I'd rather keep active than sit in a house all day complaining about everything.
but that's what most of facepunch does already. [editline]1st January 2011[/editline] Also if we extend the life of most of the world we should keep the lifespan of the french down they'll riot if they have to raise their retirement age 3 years.
That's fantastic, I hope we can continue adding on to the life expectancy
It has its drawbacks of course, IE increased dependency ratio etc.
oh great, more old people to suck up the resources for the unborn children of the future fan-fucking-tastic
they did the holocaust so they could boost amerca's economy!!!
Jews did 9/11, 9/11 did the moon landing.
Yea and we'll prob still be working at that age
I should get a degree in gerontology
