NASA is once again... cockblocked by the USA, not only did obama stops funding the NASA, obama don't want NASA to cooperate with the russians over what russia did this crimea bullshit...
I guess USA don't want science, it want's control and theology.
I was caring less about this Ukraine/Crimea/Russia/International Intervention bullshit, but it will now halt space research?
This is the last fucking straw.
And then Russia says No more flights to the ISS for you then. The ISS is now ours.
They do have a legitimate position there with all those ethnic Russians on there
You're talking like America doesn't rely on gas and fossil fuels as-well, it's just that you guys have enough resources to be self-dependent, also Canada next to you if there's anything else.
But Europe's main priority now is trying to find other ways to supply itself so all this Russia shit won't last long
It's partly that. It's also the 19 Goddamn 70s was a thing and we learned about diversifying after OPEC squeezed us.
Or give them more money.
If NASA is given more money it will be better spent on other things than LEO transportation. There's no reason to waste money just because you have more of it, and there's a lot more to space research than launching people into LEO.

or invest in something actually useful at the current moment in time

I think funding is a pressing issue.
I think funding is a pressing issue.
Not really. NASA may be cool and such, but most of it's funding will just be dumped into military expenditures, or be left to run wild, and we will not see anything actually practical or useful being started until R&D is done for about five to eight years. Even then most of the stuff people thing NASA will do(omg space travel) will not occur for another few decades. Space Travel is going to be financed by private enterprises and corporations.
In that time we could be funding like a restructure of our education system, getting a National Healthcare system, job migration program, ect.

You weren't caring about a huge country's economy potentially being wrecked leaving tens of millions broke, but as soon as there's a space embargo it's a problem?
Politics and science should never mix.
You know theres a small chance this could be a good thing. It may actually force the government to start spending real money on NASA and we can start sending our own people to space again.
We won't be able to send people to space until at least 2017. We physically don't have any spacecraft to do it. Perhaps in an emergency situation NASA could dump money and lower qualification restrictions on SpaceX and Boeing to expedite Dragon Rider and Orion. It it would still be years away.
Once again generalizations of individuals based upon the country's decisions, and this is why human progress can't continue. If we can't look past generalizations and nationalities, then we can't progress as mankind
Its not like China's tried to steal our tech before, because it totally hasn't.
The arms trade blockades haven't really prevented China from stealing US tech. Preventing scientific cooperation is just stupid. It's to such a stupid degree that a NASA worker can't purchase a CNSA worker a cup coffee because that's a breach against the blockade.
Can we at least have another cold-war esque rivalry so that space research might actually get some funding again?
What if they set up the bomb on the ISS?
A well placed cherrybomb could bring that thing down.

Following up my statement, I'm not discounting the situation in Ukraine (I'm sure that the general consensus of FP as well), human rights are being violated and its atrocious. Like the Olympic Games, Space Ex doesn't care about nationality/political-decision-parties its all about pure science for mankind.

yeah but dude in this case its totally different because these are russians we are talking about here
Official statement from NASA:
Statement regarding suspension of some NASA activities with Russian Government representatives:
Given Russia's ongoing violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, NASA is suspending the majority of its ongoing engagements with the Russian Federation. NASA and Roscosmos will, however, continue to work together to maintain safe and continuous operation of the International Space Station. NASA is laser focused on a plan to return human spaceflight launches to American soil, and end our reliance on Russia to get into space. This has been a top priority of the Obama Administration’s for the past five years, and had our plan been fully funded, we would have returned American human spaceflight launches – and the jobs they support – back to the United States next year. With the reduced level of funding approved by Congress, we’re now looking at launching from U.S. soil in 2017. The choice here is between fully funding the plan to bring space launches back to America or continuing to send millions of dollars to the Russians. It’s that simple. The Obama Administration chooses to invest in America – and we are hopeful that Congress will do the same.

This is fucking stupid. Proper space research can only be carried out through international cooperation, especially when the agencies are on a tight budget like that. Why do we have to slow down scientific progress just because Putin is acting like an asshole?
What I can recall atleast from the statement above is that NASA does this both as an act of protest against the acts of Russia but also to force the Congress to increase their budget.
