To be honest, I always kind of took all the weird fan fuckery characters/stories get as little compliments. You've made something intriguing enough for someone to sit down and play with, and no matter how bizarre, creepy, or just plain bad they get it won't really taint the original deal unless you physically step in and make it so.
I made a character for a thing quite a while ago, and it got semi-sorta popular in some places. Because of that I've seen said character of mine in Deviantart pictures, in stories doing stuff like participating in rap battles or dying horribly, as a model in that MikuMiku poser thing, as a roleplay Tumblr account, and as a key player in a My Little Pony crossover fanfic.
Would I personally consider every bit of that in-line with what I had in mind for the character? No.
Do I think that some of it may have missed key points here and there? Yeah.
But will I ever tell any of them to cut that shit out?
No. [i]Hell[/i] no. Stumbling across that stuff every now and again always puts a smile on my face, even if the end result is something I'd never do myself. Someone really liked what I did, to the point that they adopted it to create more. That's just plain heartwarming.

Yeah, uh. I don't think it's quite the same thing when it's something in commercial product going to thousands or millions of people. It's pretty much impossible for there not to be rule 34 of Elizabeth.
