I can just compile source and be safe.
Yeah, but the amount of people who will check the source to see whether it's malicious and then compile it themselves is so small it's not going to have any significant effect on malware distribution rates.

Having source on hand > Not having it.
What an ass. I'm not sure what to do about this. The mod I made is currently 2nd highest rated mod on GTA5-mods.com, it's a compiled .asi, and I really don't want someone ripping off my mod, making a poor clone (or worse, making a clone with malware) and then uploading it, which is why I wasn't planning on releasing the source code. What would actually make people more comfortable with downloading my mod? How can I prove that its legit and that I'm making mods with good intentions?
I'm sure community policing will help
[editline]14th May 2015[/editline]
This is just one more reason why official mod support is better, at least its not so obscure
fucking moddb
Wow. I was just about to DL it after that GTASeriesVideo showcase.
Fucking twat, whoever made this mod. Such a fun looking script.
I can't find any of the files; no fade, shell, nothing. You reckon I'm infected? DL'd from ModDB.
Edit:
I deleted the mod a few days ago so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with not me being able to see the files. I'm assuming any time before I deleted the mod files I was keylogged?
Wouldn't actually be too difficult for ModDB or another website to be setup for this purpose.
And then you have to trust that website, and we're back where we started
:( i got it, cleaning out my comp now. really fucking hope nothing got stolen.
For Garry's Mod we (me and some other trusted community members) have our own build servers setup where we compile from various GitHub repos on each commit for Garry's Mod modules, users can either download source or the release DLL from us with no risk.

*cough* vinh'll fix it *cough*

If you had these mods don't just hope nothing was stolen, act!
Its best to change these passwords as soon as you can, if you had them installed. What you can't see might be hiding, and will appear again and steal more of your stuff if you aren't careful.

Of course, do it on another computer or clean out your system first if you can.
I wonder what other mods might have something like this. This is going to make the GTAV mod community paranoid as hell.
Paranoid with ASI mods anyways. Lua and CS are fine seeing as they're already OS. Some ASI modders have including there source like that Army at 5 starts mod. So, if there's no source included, then don't download. Or do, at your own risk. I'm gonna assume the Riot mod is safe being that it was made by a member of face punch, then again... I only use the Angry Planes mod myself. However, I formatted and reinstall about 24hrs ago. So, I don't have a trace of it, but I'll still keep a look out. Changed all my passwords that have my bank account link to something randomly generated. I use LastPass ,myself.
Fuck it got me as well. This is what I get for getting drunk with a couple of friends over the weekend and doing stupid shit with GTA5. It was fun but this isn't at all.
I reformatted Windows and now just finished changing all of my passwords. Thank god that most of my important accounts are protected by two-factor authentication so nothing was stolen immediately. I have been lucky to not see any rouge log-ons on any of my accounts and I'm in the process of replacing the two credit cards I typed in since I have used the mod. I did not plug in my other hard drives which were separate from GTA5 (Had the game installed on my main Windows SSD) for fear that it might have propagated itself to other disks. Is that possible? Seeing that it came from a GTA5 mod I'm not going to think that it's awfully sophisticated but I'd rather not underestimate something that just slipped past myself.
I'm going to watch this play out and see what people can dig up. If it was a basic keylogger then maybe things will be ok, but I will be incredibly disappointed if it's something that can spread to other drives thus making them useless until you format them.
So is there a list of malicious mods yet?
Stop modding games that are good enough on their own, geez...

Not really if it's done by someone trustworthy and not just some random unknown person.

Found the console player
With single lines of text changed the modding community has already fixed major issues that have been in the game since launch 2013, there's nothing wrong with modding, infact its a huge positive
wow i had angry planes installed
such a good mod too
fucks sake
Did anyone else download Angry Planes from the ModDB pack? I can't find any of the malicious files or anything and I was wondering if anyone else could or not..

Also these are just enhancements, we'll start talking about gamemodes and larger scale modding once fivem.net comes out. I imagine it will be similar to this http://www.mtasa.com/
i used both mods and there is no trace of it. not even in the registry.
it might of been because i have UAC on highest level
Stop modding games that are good enough on their own, geez...
it's not enough
there's no limits
Why would they do this? All it does is sour the water...
Stop modding games that are good enough on their own, geez...
Why settle for good enough, when you can go for better?

List of games that modding doesn't improve =

Probably to steal passwords
it was only a matter of time before something like this would happen :(
Stop modding games that are good enough on their own, geez...
I found GTA single player to be quite dull, actually. After the story was done for me, the random encounters and freaks and friends or whatever just felt boring. It was driving around and buying stuff for me.

I have high hopes for fiveM, but
FiveM also builds on years of experience maintaining a popular 'game enhancement' project for a popular first-person shooter game series, namely the infamous 'alterIWnet' and 'fourDeltaOne' projects.
If it turns out like either of those projects, then it is not long for this world.
