Since Koch bought Volition does that mean they own Red Faction now?
I would imagine so
The developer were being sold with their IP from what I heard, so yes, who ever got the dev's has their IP too.
Koch Media just seems like one of those "eh" publishers you've never heard of. They have some good games under their belt I s'pose.
Surely this is motivation for them to let a dev like 4A with a solid franchise like Metro that seems to be learning from their mistakes just do their own thing, then?
So long as Koch Media doesn't censor Last Light because of war guilt.
It wouldn't surprise me one bit. Also, it seems Koch Media has bought the RIGHTS to Metro: Last Light People are arguing whether they could, in fact, make another studio develop Metro: Last Light, or if A4 Games (which is still independent) also possess some rights to the game. I would really be sad if someone else started developing the game, or if A4 and Koch Media aren't able to reach an agreement. I guess I don't know too much about the subject. The next couple of days will be eventful.

Bid prices, for anyone interested Relic Winning bid: 26.6 million- Sega Runner up: 26.3 million- Zenimax Corporation THQ Montreal Winning bid: 2.5 million- Ubisoft Runner up: None Evolve Winning bid: 10.8 million- Take two Interactive Runner up: 250,000- Turtle Rock Studios (AKA The studio developing Evolve) Volition/Saints Row Winning bid: 22.3 million- Koch Media (Deep Silver) Runner up: 5.4 million- Ubisoft Homefront Winning bid: 500,000- Crytek Runner up: None Metro 2033/2034 Winning bid: 5.8 million- Koch Media Runner up: 5.1 million- Ubisoft South Park-Stick of Truth Winning bid:3.2 million- Ubisoft Runner up: None I think its funny that Homefront was only worth 500,000 Source: http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/23/thq-bid-winners-prices-and-runners-up/
Wait, I thought the Metro 2033 author was the guy that owned the rights to a Metro game, so 4A would have to come with a Metro purchase?
I wonder if Ubisoft has over 10,000 employees in motreal now, considering they bought the THQ studio there and it had over 500 guys.
Crytek agreed to purchase Homefront Holy shit. Homefront generally was an interesting idea with really shitty developing, this might get interesting. Generally, it's a shame that THQ bit the dust, but what comes of it is keeping me engaged to say the least.
I always thought the idea sounded pretty ridiculous, I mean it would pretty far fetched for the a major superpower to even want to attempt an occupation of another, but North Korea I don't care how you set that backstory up.

That outta depress some people.
Wait, I thought the Metro 2033 author was the guy that owned the rights to a Metro game, so 4A would have to come with a Metro purchase?
It was the right to publish.
THANK MOTHER FUCKING GOD, UBISOFT ALMOST GOT FUCKING GOD DAMN METRO!
Homefront Winning bid: 500,000- Crytek Runner up: None
Man, I'd have thought these companies would be climbing over each other to get a hold of that IP.
Man, I'd have thought these companies would be climbing over each other to get a hold of that IP.
It turned out to be shit the first time around and it didn't sell to much.
poor turtle rock they tried to buy their own game got beaten insanely
SEGA only ruin their own stuff like Sonic. But games they publish are mighty fine, like the total war series. So could've been far worse.
This really isn't totally true Remember Universe at War? Plublished by sega, the beta for it showed brilliant promise but the fact that sega had so much burocracy involved with patching and getting things out the door, that is practically caused the game to fail. None of the issues were fixed in beta let alone for release, due to the months and months time that sega would spend reviewing even the smallest of changes Alpha protocol is another shitty game they've published, though who knows - it might have just been shitty because of the developers.
God.....why did this shit happen. If this ruins any upcoming games I'm going to be pissed. I'm looking at you ubisoft.
RIP Darksiders and Vigil. I look forward to the Dawn of Total War.
I hope that Koch Media does something with the Red Faction series. It might've had a pretty shaky record at times, but Guerrilla was a genuinely fun game, and it's a shame to see it shelved just because the developers took a sledgehammer to their foreheads and ruined Armageddon. Although if they even touch Metro... It does seem rather late in development, so hopefully it'll remain unchanged.

I think it'd be pretty interesting to see how Zenimax would've handled Relic if they won the bid.
All I care about is if these purchased studios will continue to do their own thing even under new ownership.
I think it'd be pretty interesting to see how Zenimax would've handled Relic if they won the bid.
They would fuck it up and make them only do 3d games.

Seems they're interested in just buying the IP rather than the studio, would be interesting to see what they'd do with the franchise.
Seems they're interested in just buying the IP rather than the studio, would be interesting to see what they'd do with the franchise.
well the guys who make bayonetta, DMC, Vanquish, God Hand, etc work there. it would be amazing.

Just for the record, Games Workshop specifically disallows
- Use our intellectual property in relation to any third party products or third party intellectual property. ... - Create, distribute, or use any material that is not consistent with the functionality, atmosphere, and parameters of the Warhammer universe as created and owned by Games Workshop
without a license. Even though they would have a license, don't get your hopes up for Sonic and Mario Bloodbowl
