I don't know why but this reminds me of Germany locking up people for that building that got burnt down when they seized power.
This is quite literally the Turkish Reichstag Fire. Fuck Erdogan, hope we kick him out of NATO and drop the military in there to get our nukes back. Hope Turkey loses visa access to the EU. If he wants to be best buds with the rest of the Middle a Eastern dictators, get him the fuck out of Europe.
Bad reading on my part, but isn't Erdogan encouraging the de-secularisation of the Turkish state?
Not entirely, you see, his main goal is to increase his and his cronies' wealth, and he's using religion to keep the masses under control since Turkish people had always been sensitive about religion. Gülenists on the other hand.. They're the real deal when it comes to de-secularization.

Erdogan will turn Turkey into a Soviet-like dictatorship if left to his devices, whereas (if what you're saying is true) Gulen would make it into a new Islamic state had circumstances been different. Either way it's a lose-lose. Are we sure that we can't resurrect Ataturk?
Doesn't seem at all like you described it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%BClen_movement
That is wikipedia, anyone can edit it. again i recommend reading the stratfor analisis
Inside Turkey, the Gulen movement follows a determined agenda that aims to replace the Kemalist elite and transform Turkey into a more religiously conservative society. Outside Turkey, Gulen presents itself as a multifaith global organization working to bring businesses, religious leaders, politicians, journalists and average citizens together.
- Despite all I can imagine a second coup happening if Erdogan pushes the military too far with purges, I think those who did not participate on the coup expected support from him and if Erdogan goes too far in purging those he might find himself facing a new cooup
