He didn't hit another vehicle because he thought he was driving on the correct side of the road. He hit it because he thought the road was two lanes, when it was one lane each way.
The mistake wasn't from a habit.

He thought it was a two lane and stayed in the right lane, as a lawful citizen should in the us. It was definitely out of habit
Pfft its not like Americans have good road habits. I've never seen anyone stick to the right lane on a two lane road.
