This is fucking ridiculous. Just because you believe in something doesn't mean you should be prosecuted for it. Hell, even every culture is joked about.
they might as well cut aid to america then too
they might as well cut aid to america then too
They aid the US?
Thank God for sane people.
Inspiring to see a country stand for human rights in this way.
It's about damn time someone starts telling these African dictatorships off. But this isn't good enough; if I was the leader of a nation giving them aid, I would demand they set up education systems, work on getting clean water, and keep the people fed. Otherwise they shouldn't be getting a dime. In all honesty, it does seem silly that of all the reasons they could have denied them money, it was a lack of respect for the LGBT community that did it. When many people are dying of easily curable conditions, others are starving, and most can't even read a scratch, this seems like a small problem in comparison.
Jailing, torturing, and even executing gay people isn't a small problem, even in comparison to other ones. [editline]10th October 2011[/editline]
they might as well cut aid to america then too
america isn't african silly
It's time to start listening and waking up to modern culture, most countries now don't give a fuck if you're LGBT but the lack of gay marriage here is stupid. UK is doing the right thing IMO.
Yeah, LGBT rights are rather stupid here.
america isn't african silly
I know that the point I'm making is that if they're going to cut aid for african countries because they persecute gays, then they might as well keep it consistent and stop supporting the US since gays aren't exactly treated nice (can't get married in most states, etc.) there either
I know that the point I'm making is that if they're going to cut aid for african countries because they persecute gays, then they might as well keep it consistent and stop supporting the US since gays aren't exactly treated nice (can't get married in most states, etc.) there either
I'm pretty sure the persecution of gays in a place like Uganda is worse than that in the US.

I mean, you DO remember that New York just recently legalized gay marriage, right?
I'm pretty sure the persecution of gays in a place like Uganda is worse than that in the US.
yeah I know. it's not on the same scale. I was sort of making a joke but still trying to make a point that even the US is still not treating gays too well
yeah I know. it's not on the same scale. I was sort of making a joke but still trying to make a point that even the US is still not treating gays too well
That's fairly obvious.
That's fairly obvious.
and what you said isn't? what's your point?
They don't need our money, money makes problems.
anyone else think this is a pretty cynical thing to do? [editline]10th October 2011[/editline] I mean that money could have gone to feeding people, seems like the govt is just using this as an excuse to save money rather than for any idealistic reason

and what you said isn't? what's your point?
Not making one, I'm agreeing with your sentiment.
The US should do this as well. Also we should stop funding nations which persecute women and place a mandatory national embargo on them. See you later, middle east. Yeah we lose cheap oil, but we also cripple the oil companies. We also force innovation, which is beneficial in the long run.
The US should do this as well.
first the US should stop treating homosexuals like second class citizens
first the US should stop treating homosexuals like second class citizens
it really depends what state you're in and the people there it's not the entire US and we're a large country we're going to get multiple people of all kinds not willing to change their opinion, just like there's still white racists in africa I could say the same for multiple other countries
it really depends what state you're in and the people there it's not the entire US and we're a large country we're going to get multiple people of all kinds not willing to change their opinion, just like there's still white racists in africa I could say the same for multiple other countries
only about FIVE out of FIFTY states allow gay marriage, so yes it IS most of the united states quit trying to downplay it
only about FIVE out of FIFTY states allow gay marriage, so yes it IS most of the united states quit trying to downplay it
yeah but that's still not the entire US, how many states started out wanting black freedom it is changing albeit slowly, it took hundreds of years before minorities were represented as equals all over the world
we donated £200 million to malawi in the last 3 years alone, what the actual fuck are we doing, massive economic downturn and we're pissing money away, that country is so corrupt there's no point in just throwing money at it, it's better sending people in to help out.. I think one of the big charities did a survey not to long ago and it turns out that the people of 3rd world countries prefer recieving tools and useful things instead of just money
Not to mention money gets "lost" along the way, you can't really lose a container of equipment.
first the US should stop treating homosexuals like second class citizens
Of course. Anyone who denies them equal rights is a terrible person. Plain and simple.
The US should do this as well. Also we should stop funding nations which persecute women and place a mandatory national embargo on them. See you later, middle east. Yeah we lose cheap oil, but we also cripple the oil companies. We also force innovation, which is beneficial in the long run.
It would also have the side effect of a very possible regime change in those countries. Maybe I am just really cynical but in some countries I could see it leading to uprisings if "everyday" people start to lose out from lack of aid money.
yeah but that's still not the entire US, how many states started out wanting black freedom it is changing albeit slowly, it took hundreds of years before minorities were represented as equals all over the world
it's 90% of the US, and it's taking far too long for a country that is supposed to be "land of the free"
it's 90% of the US, and it's taking far too long for a country that is supposed to be "land of the free"
"Land of the free homophobes"
it's 90% of the US, and it's taking far too long for a country that is supposed to be "land of the free"
ideally yes it should be done already but nothing comes that quick
ideally yes it should be done already but nothing comes that quick
I'd also like to point out the defense of marriage act, which PROHIBITS the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defense_of_Marriage_Act that shit needs to be repealed asap
