Aka: How to butcher one of the best female characters in comics, the Timmverse practically invented and mastered Harley, why can't they leave it at that?
I still don't get how they could fuck up her design so badly in a constant attempt to get more masturbation fuel out of her. She's called Harley Quinn. You are making her not dress like a harlequin. How the hell could you possibly mess that up?
DC's had this thing going for at least a week now.
This sounds like something Shadman would've done. Not that I would ever know what Shadman does.
Nah, not enough egregiously underaged girls, gore, and dogs / Pokemon. Not that I would ever know what Shadman does, either.
Well yeah Harley Quinn is/was in a group called the Suicide Squad. Also most comics involving Batman comics are already fucked up so I don't see the problem.
The Suicide Squad is a government program that forces superpowered crooks to do extremely dangerous missions, in lieu of sending people that would actually be missed. It is not literally a group that seeks suicide.
Kinda reminds me of Barbara Gordon when she was paralyzed. A lot of Post-Crisis Batman stories go into screwed up territories like this so I'm not really surprised (thank you Frank Miller and Alan Moore). DC has always been using stuff like this to gain interest but not always so dark. I wait for the day when we can sexualise Martha Kent.
Aka: How to butcher one of the best female characters in comics, the Timmverse practically invented and mastered Harley, why can't they leave it at that?
No comic character is left untouched despite how good they are/were. EDIT: Also, this shouldn't be taken as DC trying screw over Harley. In fact, I'd say it fits pretty well for her universe and character even though it is a bit darker than usual. Plus, Mark Waid would have called this stuff out if he felt this was demeaning to Quinn and he's a damn good writer and ranter.

For one, Alan Moore knows what grammar is.
Don't you dare compare Frank Miller to Alan Moore. For one, Alan Moore knows what grammar is.
Oh no I wasn't saying that Moore is as bad as modern Miller. He's much much much better than Frank Miller. I just mentioned Alan Moore because he does acknowledge his role in making DC comics and its characters 'darker', specifically with The Killing Joke, which he does regret a bit.
Someone should do a Dilbert 3-style animation featuring these guidelines.
This really isn't fetishizing her It's asking for extremes of her emotions and seeing how the artists can capture them, not to mention how this is completely in the characters natural domain of situations. Sure, one of them is sexual, but the character is also really sexual to begin with.
Am I the only one who has no problem with this it's black comedy and seems to fit with the theme of the character. Then again I haven't read any of the comics she's appeared in but on the other other hand I think lots of the people complaining haven't read any of the comics either

The wonderful brilliant series that gave the world this:
There has been quite a bit of internet chatter about the script DC chose for this, mainly in regards to the oversexualization of Harley Quinn (which I can’t really argue with) and how the script requires her to be depicted in a bath. Lots of hysterical people criticising DC for “requesting her being drawn naked”. I’d planned out my page before I’d read any of these comments. She has to be in a bath, so that she’s naked is pretty much a given, but it had never occurred to me that Harley should be rendered in any kind of pseudo-soft-core pose. That’s just not in key with the character that I know. If you read the script and thought that was what was required, that says more about you than it does DC. It reads: PANEL 4 Harley sitting naked in a bathtub with toasters, blow dryers, blenders, appliances all dangling above the bathtub and she has a cord that will release them all. We are watching the moment before the inevitable death. Her expression is one of “oh well, guess that’s it for me” and she has resigned herself to the moment that is going to happen. Not: PANEL 4 Harley sitting naked in a bathtub with toasters, blow dryers, blenders, appliances all dangling above the bathtub and she has a cord that will release them all. We are watching the moment before the inevitable death. Her expression is one of “oh well, guess that’s it for me” and she has resigned herself to the moment that is going to happen. We are witnessing all this from a birds eye view. Suds and steam obscure the nipples but not the full rack. Her free arm is curled just under her boobs, raising them slightly out of the water and at the same time squeezing them together gently. A rubber duck floats over her snatch. It looks happy. If each panel of a comic tells a story, this one is meant to relay that the apparently suicidal Quinn is about to fry herself….and she’s going to be thorough about it. There’s no reason for nudity to be any kind of hang-up or focus at all, hence its complete absence from my interpretation.
Okay hopefully they have batman's obviously erect penis poke through his spandex letting us see a little dickneck for super sexy! Ugh, what the fuck DC. That's totally uncalled for.
So why are people getting upset, do they take baths with their clothes on or something?
And here's his comment, which I agree with.
oh that had never occurred to me does that make me a sexist pig?
And here's his comment, which I agree with.
And why did I know that the only dumb rating on this post would be jeep-eep? Anyways did you guys not read past the headline? It was pretty obvious she wasn't going to be clothed in the bathtub and there really weren't anything saying it had to be sexual. My first thought was "is the context erotic or artistic?"
This is DC dude. Given their track record, of course they'll choose the fetishistic one.
And it's impossible to actually read into the context? I don't deny that DC loves some fanservice, I think you could just try to read into it a little bit more. Also that still doesn't explain your dumb rating on the explanation Tak posted.

My dumb is because the guy is giving their thought process entirely too much credit for not being dumbshits.
So why are people getting upset, do they take baths with their clothes on or something?
To be fair, if they legitimately didn't want to stir up this interpretation, they could have just said "Harley in a filled bath-tub" or something similar. The "naked" doesn't have to be explicitly stated, because if you're taking a bath, it's generally assumed you are naked.
Modern Harley (Timm's Harley) has always been sexualized, but it also works extremely well for her character. She's an extreme personality, not viewing sexuality as something erotic, but as a joke. It's tongue-in-cheek; it's a parody of the genre. Just look at her in the Arkham games, saying things like, "what do you think of my new outfit? Don't I look HOT?" That's a pretty big part of what makes Harley "Harley." The Timm Harley was my favorite, and I think just about everybody's favorite, because she was handled extremely well, but even his had overt sexuality as one of her defining characteristics. This comic page isn't meant to be a softcore porno; there's nothing stating she has to be making a "fuck-me" face and lathering her bazongas. It's also certainly not meant to feature explicit nudity. The point is to represent her character's core aspects: she is a parody of comic book sexualization with an extreme and exaggerated personality.
Um are they really "fetishizing" her? I mean I'm not really talking about her current design, I mean these four panels in general. The only real "fetish-y" one is the bathtub one, but she's in a bathtub, and the electrical-appliance-in-the-bathtub is an actually thing, so it's not just an excuse to draw her naked.
