• Lara Croft gets a "realistic" redesign from eating disorder support group

I've seen plenty of hetero women that love sexy/beautiful women that has been brought up as men's fantasies and that's not even including lesbians. While it's probably true that most people who like such female characters are men, there are still women who appreciate sexy ladies in their games. Creating better written characters would do tons more to help fight against the issue of representation than simply removing such characters. Too bad making well written video games seem to be really hard
Those girls are men's fantasies, not women's, you smartass.
I've yet to see a woman who doesn't fantasize about being as sexy as possible.
You people are so fucking predictable, it's almost laughable. The moment someone tries to change your viewpoint, tries to tell you that you're wrong, you lash out at any way you can at that person. In this case it was calling him insecure, edgy, and that they have no self control. I've seen it happen time and time again in other threads like this one, so of course it would happen in this one. I never should have come back after that post, all that would have happened is this. Perhaps you don't see it that way, but that is the truth and we have funny ways of bending it. But whatever, I don't care anyways. I'm not going to make the mistake of posting here again.
"You people lash out at anyone who has a different viewpoint from you. You won't even consider changing your mind. Fuck all of you, I'm leaving before you have the chance to argue any more points against me." pot kettle
Those girls are men's fantasies, not women's, you smartass.
The woman who designed Bayonetta would like to have a word with you
Those girls are men's fantasies, not women's, you smartass.
Ah yes, the old tactic of ignoring the females that like the characters. After all, you know what women want best than they do.
I thought SheikYabouti's point was that these are characters designed by guys, not that there aren't girls out there who like the female characters.
I thought SheikYabouti's point was that these are characters designed by guys, not that there aren't girls out there who like the female characters.
Both Jojo and Bayonetta are designed by women. His point has no basis really.
Both Jojo and Bayonetta are designed by women. His point has no basis really.
Sorry but Jojo is designed by a dude, it's only the new anime that had a female character designer(Who didn't change much from the original)
So, fat people avoid losing weight and living healthy lives by trying to convince healthy people that they aren't realistic by using video game characters? I've never once looked at someone and though "Hey that bitch needs to look more skinny, like fictional lara croft - and take some polygons away from her while you're at it" I doubt the people who made this have a real 'eating disorder'. They had enough time to sit around on their double XXL computer chairs and make this angsty shit when they could have been seeing a doctor for help or you know just working out and eating a proper diet.
Sorry but Jojo is designed by a dude, it's only the new anime that had a female character designer(Who didn't change much from the original)
What the fuck. In some other thread I said Jojo was designed by a dude and someone else said the original Jojo was made by a female. Which one is it?
What the fuck. In some other thread I said Jojo was designed by a dude and someone else said the original Jojo was made by a female. [editline]27th July 2015[/editline] And honestly, yes, the redesigns are fairly bad bar a few, but people are missing the point and assuming this is an attack on thin people (Which it's not).
Did nobody read the OP? It's not pushing the redesigns as the ideal body image, they are merely showing what women in video games would look like if they were based on the body of the average American woman. It would be a lot more constructive if you held your horses and didn't jump straight to righteous indignation against your sworn enemy without reading shit first, guys.
How does making fairly attractive woman in video games the average American help bulimics So if you're not trying to say fat is normal, if you're not criticizing the design, what are you even doing. I really don't understand how shopping these characters to be fat will change the mindset of a bulimic.
It's making a point that if the media used the average demographic in depicting body type more people would feel less ostracized and it may ease their anxiety and assist in overcoming their disorder. But fat people, women, video games, blah blah all these words ironically trigger everybody on Facepunch to flip the fuck out and jump to conclusions.
I'm surprised they didn't edit Shantae. [t]http://i.imgur.com/I4tFB5Y.png[/t]
I know this is has probably already been answered, but shantae is a cartoon character.

That aside it also has nothing to do with mental illness. Fact of the fact is if you get up and work for it you will become fit. A mental illness, unless extremely severe and crippling, does not make you incapable of a healthy diet and committing to exercise. Strong feelings of the need to eat unhealthy food and being lazy is not one of those illnesses. Even your doctor will tell you that you're capable of controlling yourself with effort despite an 'eating disorder'. It's not forcing you to gain weight. It's not a life sentence to an inability to be however fit you want. And it certainly shouldn't mean that others should be tricked into believing that a good body isn't a realistic option just because some people can't work for it. Im sure nobody literally believes they're going to get a barbie tight waist.

[editline]27th July 2015[/editline]
That's the average in America? That's kinda sad.
America is the first or second (think Australia overtook us recently) fattest nation in the world.
Im questioning you calling them scare quotes whatever the fuck that is. Are you scared of quotes? do they strike fear into you? '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
Both Jojo and Bayonetta are designed by women. His point has no basis really.
I guess I stand corrected, yet I still somehow feel I have a point. a) The vast majority of games still cater to boys. Sexy female characters designed by women are the exception, not the rule. b) the argument that there are girls who like these characters and that, as itisjuly said, many girls want to be as sexy as possible, has no real value. You could say the same thing about skinny supermodels. "Yes but girls like them and they want to be like them." I say that is because we live in a world where ideals for women are largely dictated by men (or, rather, by what appeals to men). How many 16 year old girls can you show me who are aware of how their environment is having an influence on them? How clearly did you see what you really wanted and which part of it was due to acquired social reflexes when you were 14, or 16, or even 18? And I really really don't mean to sound condescending, but if you're still in your teens, you're in for a surprise when you look back at your former self in 10, 15 years.

'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scare_quotes Your usage of them in that particular context implies you don't really believe an eating disorder is a legitimate, serious thing that people suffer from. Maybe it was unintentional but you can't blame me for calling you out on something that will throw a lot of people off (as it did me).

I think you're in the wrong kind of mindset for a proper discussion my friend if you're going to blow people off based on assumed context of quotation marks

Don't get snide just because you were being unclear in your argument.

No actually, I would not say. Believing in an eating disorder being real or not is not relevant at all to my post.
I certainly didn't say it's an attack on thin people, how ironic of your own post when you start telling people they're missing the point. This isn't about fat people in the slightest, stop with the knee-jerk 'ugh fat people making excuses' reaction.
Please clarify this, are you saying that women want to be beautiful because men dictate it?
I am saying that our current definition of "beautiful" has been coined by a range of industries mostly dominated by men.
Please clarify this, are you saying that women want to be beautiful because men dictate it?
Everybody wants to be beautiful but there is no objective definition of what is and is not beautiful; the general point being made is that Western standards of attractiveness are determined by media, marketing, fashion retailers etc. which are largely male-dominated.
I know this is has probably already been answered, but shantae is a cartoon character.
She's a video game character animated in 2D, she's never been in a cartoon.
