• Lara Croft gets a "realistic" redesign from eating disorder support group
Please. When I lost weight I was getting all kinds of "stick" comments. at BMI 24. Fat people are often shitty to people who make it, even when they're not full blown FAs. I got way more shit for losing weight than I did for having that weight.
Is that exclusive to the US? Because I have a hard time imagining that kind of mentality in Europe where overweight people are more of a rarity, at least among young people.
B-but only women can be blown out of proportion! C-C-certainly men cannot be. Every male in the world looks like this! That's realistic! That's a power fantasy, it's totally different... or something like that. Why is Thief guy even there?
Is that exclusive to the US? Because I have a hard time imagining that kind of mentality in Europe where overweight people are more of a rarity, at least among young people.
Probably amongst family and friends that are predisposed to being cunts? Maybe I'm just spoiled by California. Nobody makes fun of people being skinny here.
That's a power fantasy, it's totally different... or something like that. Why is Thief guy even there?
Oh right. So the sexy/hot/cute girls in video games aren't a fantasy either, then? What I am getting at, is that people think it's one sided, when it's not. Who cares. Let developers do whatever they want. Fuck man. I just want fun in my games that is entertainment. If I don't like it, I don't buy it.
It's not really a power fantasy. Like, even if it were a specific kind of fantasy, it wouldn't matter, but it's not. Characters being attractive matters. [editline]26th July 2015[/editline] why is drake there????
why is drake there????
Handsome face I guess.
The people getting offended by these changes are missing one really key piece of context - these were published by an eating disorder support group. Of course if you don't have an eating disorder or know anyone with an eating disorder you're going to find this overbearing and unnecessary. What's next, are you going to find material published by a depression support group and mock it because of course you already know not to kill yourself and that it should go without saying?

So because its made by an eating disorder it's suddenly ok to promote chub and claim that's the norm?
Yup. I was gonna say the same. That actually came out quite well...as opposed to most of the others.
It came out well because they took a very stylized and purposefully unrealistic design and gave it more realistic proportions. Every design in FF7 has insanely long and skinny legs with really short upper bodies in comparison. Of course if you make the legs shorter it'll look more accurate.
If we're going to talk about realistic athletic and healthy bodies which heroes would most likely have. All you have to do is look at ESPN's Nude Athlete's piece. The women are thin, but no overtly thin and have muscular features. The men are jacked but some of them have layers of chub. Not this dumb bulimia group shit. Being seriously underweight is just as dangerous as being seriously overweight.

It shoots past realistic and starts becoming unrealistic again.
I don't get it. So because its made by an eating disorder it's suddenly ok to promote chub and claim that's the norm?
You're taking this out of context. This isn't made for people like you who are have a healthy mind and are fine with their body. This is made for people who are SLOWLY KILLING THEMSELVES.
You're taking this out of context. This isn't made for people like you who are have a healthy mind and are fine with their body. This is made for people who are SLOWLY KILLING THEMSELVES.
But how is this helping them?
It isn't very well done, but you shouldn't shit all over the idea of redrawing my precious precious video game women as people with slightly larger proportions because they want to try and help people who are, AGAIN, SLOWLY KILLING THEMSELVES. I could honestly see the sentiment behind hating this if it was, like, some "Fats right activists" group or something silly, but hating this when it comes from a bullemic support group is kind of pathetic. This is support material, they aren't trying to change the "standards" for video game women, they aren't trying to shit on the characters, they're trying to help girls who have an unhealthy mental illness get back into it. You need small things, small things like this, to help these people and get them back on the right track. People with mental illnesses don't think logically, they need certain "evidence" or "proof" or any kind of material to help ease them into a better situation. I've lived it, I had OCD for 3 years of my life and honestly the only thing that ever made me feel better was a call to my dad to ask him a question if "Will I be okay if this happens? If I touch this? If I eat this in this way?" Mental illnesses ruins peoples lives, and when a group tries to help people get back into the place they want them to be through material like this, and you shit on this, you just look like a sad, angry nerd. [editline]26th July 2015[/editline]
But how is this helping them?
Reassurence that they don't need to meet unrealistic standards to be acceptable. Showing that it is okay to be a certain weight through use of role models. Like Jesus Christ stop being a nerd about your video game women and try to have some sympathy for people with mental illnesses. This is support material, not a comment about society, not a call for change of how video game women are drawn, this is SUPPORT MATERIAL THey aren't encouraging girls to be fat, they're encouraging girls to not kill themselves through unhealthy habits.
This is just even more confusing than seeing what a normal body looks like. Because they look like shit. I would think the afflicted would insist that this is what they'll look like if they gain any weight.

Or at least, that's my view as a person who's had chronic weight issues for the majority of his life. [editline]26th July 2015[/editline] I just don't see how this is against bulimia or is persuasive as to why you shouldn't be bulimic.
I don't have a healthy mindset about my body and even I realize this isn't helping. [editline]26th July 2015[/editline] I just don't see how this is against bulimia or is persuasive as to why you shouldn't be bulimic.
I'm not saying it's done well, but a lot of people are making ridiculous assumptions like they're "omg attacking my precious video games" or "Why are they shaming thin people wow imagine wanting to be healthy" and the point that these images are not made for people like them and actually should be meaningless to them shoots over their head and they take things out of context and get offended for no reason. Mental illnesses are weird, just because you don't see the purpose in how this might help someone doesn't mean it won't actually help someone. Would it be 100% effective? Of course not. But for 2 hours in photoshop, if this stuff helps one anorexic person out of a 100 I'd still say it was well worth it. You might not see how me wanting to start out touching the end of a tooth pick that touched a tissue paper that touched a different tissue paper in a school bathroom sink might not be suitable treatment for OCD, but guess what, some therapists will recommend starting out trying that and working your way up. You can't approach a mental illness thinking that simply telling them to stop being anorexic is going to work, it just doesn't work that way. So they make things like this to help drive the point home that it is okay to be what some people would perceive as fat (at least, what it would look like if they were made better).

You're just fighting imaginary opponents if you think that's what people are saying here. You accused me of being a shitposter before so if you don't want to come off as a dumb hypocrite you better start reading the posts you're responding to. Those images may be aimed at anorexic people but it could also lead overweight people to think their condition is not that bad and that it's not worth the effort to try and be healthier.
You people are so fucking predictable, it's almost laughable. The moment someone tries to change your viewpoint, tries to tell you that you're wrong, you lash out at any way you can at that person. In this case it was calling him insecure, edgy, and that they have no self control. I've seen it happen time and time again in other threads like this one, so of course it would happen in this one. I never should have come back after that post, all that would have happened is this. Perhaps you don't see it that way, but that is the truth and we have funny ways of bending it. But whatever, I don't care anyways. I'm not going to make the mistake of posting here again.
Who are you even talking to/about

Cause thats honestly all i can see it as, because its either that or you're not reading any of the posts in this thread. At all.

Alda, as people have posted earlier in this thread, most of these edits would literally be overweight for their age and height if they were real

Loosing weight becomes much more easy when you stop being so dramatic.
