Some people actually prefer binary (on/off) controls over analogue actually. In my experience: mouse is more efficient, controller is more immersive. Driving/Flight/3rd person slasher games can usually benefit from a mouse, but if it's a PROPER port then they're simply tradeoffs.
lol nobody plays driving games with mice, they generally arent even mapped for it dont even have an option, its completely retarded
Some people actually prefer binary (on/off) controls over analogue actually. In my experience: mouse is more efficient, controller is more immersive. Driving/Flight/3rd person slasher games can usually benefit from a [del]mouse[/del] controller (oops), but if it's a PROPER port then they're simply tradeoffs. Most people who play with a mouse don't run out of "mousepad space". It's a subconscious thing to recenter the mouse occasionally and even me, with the VERY low 10% sensitivity I have going on in most of my games, can spin around about 4 or 5 times with half of the mousepad.
In some vehicle games, playing with a keyboard is much harder because you get the problem where you can't go easy on the gas. In BeamNG Drive and Project Cars for instance, it's super easy to spin out with keyboard because you give full throttle and have spazzy near-instant steering, while a controller makes both games a joy to play. [editline]7th September 2013[/editline] Many people even prefer using controllers for keyboard oriented racing games such as Trackmania, since you have this precise analogue control.
Ballin'. Just a shame that the buttons are no longer pressure-sensitive. No true Start/Select either.
TBH only the "trigger" buttons benefited from being pressure sensitive. the rest of the buttons being pressure sensitive just jacked up the pricetag.
actually just realized this will be fucking perfect for emulators; even more so if they get the touchpad working
TBH only the "trigger" buttons benefited from being pressure sensitive. the rest of the buttons being pressure sensitive just jacked up the pricetag.
There were actually a fair amount of good uses for those though?! The radar in Ace Combat, pretty much everything in MGS, etc. I'm nothing more than sad on this point.

Even Gran Turismo 5 didn't use them, except for the "trigger" buttons. Too little travel in the buttons to "dose" the pressure correctly, it's either 0%, 50% or 100%. Pretty damn useless except for a few niché's
lol nobody plays driving games with mice, they generally arent even mapped for it dont even have an option, its completely retarded
The only game I know where mouse steering works is Car & Driver on DOS, and even then you can use the keypad.
The only game I know where mouse steering works is Car & Driver on DOS, and even then you can use the keypad.
OMSI and Live for Speed have mouse steering.
The only game I know where mouse steering works is Car & Driver on DOS, and even then you can use the keypad.
Midtown Madness 2 AFAIK
The only game I know where mouse steering works is Car & Driver on DOS, and even then you can use the keypad.
didn't the 3D era GTAs have mouse steering? I don't think I ever used it though since it just seemed unnatural [editline]9th September 2013[/editline]
There were actually a fair amount of good uses for those though?! The radar in Ace Combat, pretty much everything in MGS, etc. I'm nothing more than sad on this point.
I'm pretty sure MGS only used them as an excuse to make the controls even more insane - what other game asks you to release one of the face buttons halfway (or whatever it was, it was definitely mental though) in order to fire?
I was hoping the Dualshock 4 would give me a blowjob, but this is almost just as good.
So wait, will the triggers and analog sticks no longer be pressure sensitive? So if I lightly move my analog stick forward, I'll start moving at the fastest speed and I won't be able to control my speed in driving games with the triggers?

That's what's getting removed.
I'm confused as to why standard buttons would be trigger sensitive, if you're pressing it down with your thumb it'll just go the whole way
that's pretty much what every dev (except kojima but he doesn't count because he's mental) said which is why they're getting rid of them
that's pretty much what every dev (except kojima but he doesn't count because he's mental) said which is why they're getting rid of them
Yep, when there's only around 3mm of "button travel" it's virtually impossible to put those "face" buttons to good use as analog buttons. It was and will always be a stupid decision to make those buttons analog. Since it'll end up requiring a more expensive micro-controller used to interface those buttons instead of good on/off tactile switches. Not to mention designing and manufacturing those buttons themselves would also jack up the price. It just doesn't make sense, considering how big the pricetag of the PS3 controller ended up being.
Thank fucking god, MotionJoy DS3 tool is the most ugly fucking software I have ever used. I'm ashamed to have such a vile looking program on my beautiful computer.
Guess I know what I'll be picking up for when Dark Souls II comes out
Thank fucking god, MotionJoy DS3 tool is the most ugly fucking software I have ever used. I'm ashamed to have such a vile looking program on my beautiful computer.
Jesus christ that program makes literally zero sense. And the UI is done in html or some shit.

If the website it uses is down it doesn't work. I found this out when my internet was out (ISP maintenance) and I thought "Well, I'll just play some Dark Souls. ...Page not found? Oh. I guess not then!" I did later find out about the possibility to make it work locally, but it was rather hard to Google the answer at that point.

And if there IS fuzz, then there's a couple of tool with a simple GUI interface to set it up. Then again, they also pick up the accelerometer in my laptop (which is used in almost all modern laptops for protecting the harddrive from head-crash in-case of a drop) as a 3 axis joystick without buttons. Was fun with a flight sim for 5 minutes.
Gran turismo did use them, just not very well
I already addressed that. Were impossible to control a hard pumped turbo'd car during cornering, since you couldn't control the throttle precisely enough.
That's such a stupid thing to say, because it only really applies to shooters and strategy games.
and arcade fighters (admittedly the fight pad wins there), platformers, rpgs and most other games to be honest. That said, it's nice to sometimes just grab a controller and sit in the couch while you have your computer connected to the tv.
rpgs? really?
it was made in scratch probably [editline]8th September 2013[/editline] babby's first HTML
made in china
Controller will work natively on PC? This just gives me more reasons to get a PS4!
