I don't understand this. Instead of sending an obvious alcoholic to prison and not solving anything, why doesn't the law force him to go to rehab?
He already went to rehab. But he still fucked up.
Sounds like a game show.
ON today's show, will our contestant succumb to his alcoholism and take it up the ass for a cup of smuggled booze?
Primarily the Texas justice system.
this isn't exclusive to texas
I don't have sympathy for repeat offenders. He should have straightened out his life the first time he got a DUI.
So you let him rot in jail for the rest of his life? Are you a fucking socipath? here's a tip: order him to mandatory AA meetings. Instead of ignoring this dude and just basically throwing him in prision for fucking life: REHABILITATE him you americans couldn't run a legal system to save your life.
Justified, but completely overdone. Twenty years probation, and mandatory rehab would be best in this case.
you're the worst fascist i've ever seen
you're the worst fascist i've ever seen
What does this have to do with anything?
i'm just saying you know a fascist should be for executing jaywalkers
i'm just saying you know a fascist should be for executing jaywalkers
Well we don't live in a fascist state now, do we? Not only going "hurr durr, let's execute a potentially productive member of society!" would make me seem like your typical bloodthirsty facepunch user; it is a damn stupid thing to consider. This man probably became an alcoholic because of hard times, it'll be of no help to the matter of killing someone who can return to contributing to society. Yeah, he did have eight chances to end his ways, but this is a complete waste of resources, when we could be putting criminals in who deserve the time. [editline]08:15PM[/editline] Just because I may have some extreme views, doesn't make me a dolt.
You're not allowed to have alcohol in prison. :sadddowns: IN this case it would be cold turkey:EXTREME EDITION.
That isn't rehabilitation, it's torture. They give you medications in rehab for a reason.
Even for a 9th DWI, this is downright cruel and unusual punishment. A solution would have been mandatory rehabilitation, a ban from operating vehicles, and perhaps house arrest for a while at the beginning.
Rehabilitation? Oh, that slaps me on the knee. A lot of people do this thing because they just don't care. It's not a matter of mental trouble that needs to be "rehabilitated."
Rehabilitation? Oh, that slaps me on the knee. A lot of people do this thing because they just don't care. It's not a matter of mental trouble that needs to be "rehabilitated."
And the conservative handbook comes flying open

Welcome to the gay mafia family, because you know its just business....
I live in Round Rock, glad this asshat is off the street for good.
It's been said several times, but you guys just don't seem to get it. After the 3rd offence, his license was revoked and he was forced to take a rehabilitation class. Who knows what other punishments and sentences he was given, the article doesn't say. The fact of the matter is, after all of this, he still went out and did the same exact thing he did before. He's too dangerous to be kept living in regular society.
It's pretty extreme for someone to get a sentence on par with murdering someone who hasn't killed or seriously injured anyone. The law doesn't exist to lock people up who "maybe, possibly, someday there's a chance they'll hurt someone". This isn't Minority Report, the law exists to act in response to crime. The judge expressly stated his ruling was because the defendant might kill someone at some future date, and that's bullshit. You can't prove someone is guilty of something they haven't done yet and apply that sentence to them. Should this guy do serious time in jail? With his record, of course. But he hasn't actually done anything on par with the murderers he'll be in with for the rest of his life.
Just because I may have some extreme views, doesn't make me a dolt.
sure about that?
The judge has no conscience I see.

I have no sympothy for this man. It is a miracle he hasn't killed someone already. My sister was killed by a Drunk driver and here in NY they decided he only deserved 6 years in prison for killing a mother/sister/daughter/friend/good preson. I'm glad this scumbag is in prison the rest of his life.

Conservatives believe in thought crime, tough love, and the toothfairy. Oh shit, I'm sorry, all of those things are imaginary, or ineffectual(Tooth fairys real boys, she just sucks at her job.)
Norway has a rehabilitation centre for the worse criminals in society per capita, they have the lowest crime rates in the world still slapping your knee?
Correlation does not equal causation. How do you know it's not just the cold weather that prevents all that crime?
what is an rehab he didn't kill anyone, you fascist.
He's drank and drivin 9 times now and he already hit another driver! He obviously dosen't care about his life or anyone elses andfor that he should be put away for life.
Correlation does not equal causation. Maybe it's just the warm weather that's making the tough love system in america just fuck up monumentally more.

What about solopsists? You can't just lock people away for their fucking views on life. This guy may have been an alcoholic, and a drunk driver, but he is not less than human, and does not deserve less than human treatment. This guy should be forced to go through rehab, permanently have his license revoked, and possibly put under house arrest.
Correlation does not equal causation. [editline]03:46AM[/editline]
Read my other posts then call back later thank you.
uh, ok you're still a fucking sociopath.

After all, they're just human.

[editline]09:51PM[/editline] All Texas DUI repeat offenders are required to take a "DUI Repeat Offender Program." "This standardized program is 32 hours in length and is designed for multiple DWI offenders and/or others who have alcohol/drug related problems for which the first offender program was not designed to address. The program purpose is to intervene in the alcohol/drug abusing lifestyles of the offenders in order to encourage entry into treatment where indicated as well as to prevent further substance abuse related problems." Not really rehab, but if he was forced to take it after each time he should have learned his lesson. [editline]09:51PM[/editline]
uh, ok you're still a fucking sociopath.
How so?
