who the fuck cares?
The man brings me steam and Half Life, he could watch tentacle scat porn for all I care.
I owe him countless hours on my ass.
That's fucking quality time.
Question - would it be better or worse if in the interview, he confessed to being a furry?
world would end gg
What if the Advisors come from Equestria? :tinfoil: :v:
Dear Gabe,
I accept you for who you are, you amazing son of a bitch.

I'm just tired of seeing MLP pics, on every single site, for the last 2 years or so. I honestly doubt a single day has passed since last spring that I haven't seen a pony pic or reference.
It's just so fucking old and dumb

better be careful with them words, ~Myst might rate you dumb for the next 20 posts.
At least he keeps being a fan of the show to himself and doesn't try to spread it.

That's a reasonable response, but I try to see the interests of others as like commercials on TV. Sure, it disrupts what I want to do and I have no interest in that product/service/lifestyle, but it's either of someone else's interest or making them happy. I only have to glimpse over it before the next thing comes up.
I personally can understand why people like the show, but I can't watch it myself because the plot lines are just too simple and repetitive and consist mostly of "Oooh, am I betraying my friend?" *deadpan stare into camera* or something simple along those lines, which might be morally intriguing for a 8-12 year old girl or younger person, but not someone who is making the study of literary analysis their career choice.

I agree with him actually. When I go to youtube videos for unrelated things I see mlp flame wars in the comments. It's just anti bronies who always start them.
It annoys me too.
Wait is it only a year old now?
Judging by the tone of his voice, I think Gabe was just joking. I obviously don't know the man personally, so I can't say 100%.
I don't think any less of him.
He likes a show that some people look down upon. So what? He's still a bro.
Facepunch overreacts WAY too much to stuff involving MLP. I never really understood why. It's just a show that people watch. Grow up.
a show directed towards little girls
not for grown men
Question - would it be better or worse if in the interview, he confessed to being a furry?
You see, Newell is a furry-brony who regularly attends Anthrocon under the guise as a wolf/pony hybrid with the Steam logo as his cutie mark.

Don't think so, bronies are higher up on my scale than furries. Grouping them together is a mistake, in my opinion.
Facepunch seems to have this horrible habit of generalizing different groups, then getting itself generalized as a bigoted forum. The wheel never stops turning, does it?
At least he keeps being a fan of the show to himself and doesn't try to spread it.
That's why he announced it in an interview.
Thanks for keeping it to yourself gaben

1. I think he was talking about me.
2. He said it under his breath, and only because someone asked him a related question.

I think trying to establish some kind of scale to begin with is a retarded idea, as it would imply that somebody being fan of X or fapping to Y or doing Z means anything on its own.
All you can tell from a brony? He likes ponies. Likewise for furries and pretty much everything ever.

so wait now saying that you like a certain show is spreading it?
I like Futurama
"omfg stop shoving it down my throat!11!!"
In my opinion, MLP is just a flat-out bad show, but watching it doesn't make you a bad person. Thinking that it does is just dumb.

I think the fact people feel the need to label themselves means it's something more than "just liking a show" and "just liking anthropomorphic animals." You can say "every fandom has it's weirdos" all you want, but if it were that simple, we wouldn't be having this conversation. There's plenty of other cartoon that have a periphery demographic, but few or none of them have a unseemly section of the fanbase this numerous or at least this loud. Why is it that some things like MLP and Sonic the Hedgehog are magnets for people like CWC? Some sociologists need to do a study of this sort of thing one day.
Sigh, another thread related to MLP and 6 long pages involving everybody on facepunch expressing their opinion about the show/fandom.
Guess what, nobody cares, now grow the fuck up.

I think part of the seemingly immense amount of stupidity coming from the MLP fanbase is due to the way that people who see it who aren't bronies have an immediate reaction to it. I mean, they're ponies, they're the epitome of silly girly things. So that makes people say "I fucking hate this why do people watch it", and that makes other people say "why should you hate it it's just a show", and that's where we get the argument from.

Both have just as many creeps with fetishes and people who claim to 'just be a fan'
Both have people who dress up
Both must make it perfectly clear to everyone they love furry porn/art/watch mlp(porn)
Both piss everybody who isn't them off by being such wieners
why is this a big deal? this is seriously ridiculous.
to me, Gabe is still the superhero champion of Valve and Steam as he always was, I don't see how a dumb show changes that for many people

do you dress up as bender, make your username hypno-toad and constantly jack off exclusively to amy wong
this thread sums up why bronies are such fucking losers
My friend is a psych major and has this theory about bronies. Basically, he says that bronies are just your normal very socially awkward kids who have no other outlet for their softer side due to their rigidly constructed male outward persona (which they think is required for social interaction as a male, see also highschool death metal fans) and overconsumption of the more misogynist parts of the internet (4chan, reddit, etc). He argues that without my little pony to let out their pent-up confusion towards women and emotion, they'd turn to even less tasteful outlets, such as lolicon or ultimately pedophilia or surprise sex later in life. Not to say these things don't happen anyway, he just theorises that they'd be much worse if they didn't have this agreed-upon "safety valve" that they can get mushy over without losing their self-image. Of course this is just unscientific speculation on his part, but it does fit the evidence quite well.

Friendship is Magic is a perfect storm of convenient fig-leaves for deviants inflamed by a thousand disparate horrid passions to drag their rancid selves out of hiding and mingle with one another. I think it is the most vile of them that stir up the lesser fans into participating in things like cons and real-life meetups that go above beyond simply being loving creeps on the Internet.
From my observation, I have discerned that the brony subculture works much the same way that certain aspects of the chan cultures do. There's a great group of people who are socially stunted, and it just happens to be ponies that they stumble upon first, rather then pedophilia or furry porn or some other insane perversion. Moving them among them are the real predators, vicious creatures who know what they are and revel in it.
They've discovered a great secret. They're pulling a joke on the world. You see, you can't go around calling yourself a horse fucker in public, even if there's a lot of people in your group, but if you get together a large group of people you can prance around with cartoon ponies all you want. Of course, I don't think there's that many horse fuckers.
When you look past form and color, the simple truth slaps you in the face. The ponies are children. The core of the brony subculture is a rotten tumor of hideous monsters who slaver and drool over the thought of unleashing hideous depravities on cute, innocent things. Their hatred for the world has been twisted into a desire to defile it. They may hide behind coded language and hidden intent but the real reason they want to take My Little Pony away from little girls isn't because they like the show, it's because they hate little girls.
sounds about right to me
This was the first thing my brony friend ran up to me and said today.
This planet.
