Apple's not the only company that patent trolls. So yes, don't hate the player, hate the game.
if murder and theft were legal would you still not hate the player hate the game?
P
you're taking metaphorical far too literally and completely missing the point rofl what if I said murder and theft was also legal? Is it ok to steal candy just because it's easy to do and it's a big game? It's obviously wrong that they're legal but it's still wrong to do them in the first place, just like patent trolling.
"There shouldn't be any metaphors if people botch them so easily." And stop comparing murder to patent trolling, there is nothing similar about them, and it's not a solid argument if you have to bring in extreme cases not pertaining to thr subject, can you get back on topic?
this is so semantic bullshit that it's fucking stupid and you should feel ashamed for even bringing this up theft is not comparable to patent abuse. murder is not comparable to patent abuse. you can't prevent theft and you can't prevent murder. you can, however, prevent patent abuse. people will always try to kill, steal and abuse patents; you can only punish the former two after they've happened. however, if there aren't any terrible patents that corporations can use to strongarm their competitors... it's not rocket science

It's metaphorical, you aren't supposed to take it literally, you ACTUALLY believe I'm LITERALLY TRYING to compare murder to to patent abuse? Do you realize how embarrassingly funny that looks? "you should feel ashamed for even bringing this up" hey Protocol7 Don't hate the player hate the game!!! :downs:
P "There shouldn't be any metaphors if people botch them so easily." I think comparing it to the WBC being able to legally protest a funeral would be better though, or a rich person avoiding taxes in a "Legal" way. So fair enough, yeah, bad example, but wow, how do you take it that literally.

We're just pointing out that saying, "If murder was legal would you do the same thing?", doesn't fit at all. Where murder is pretty cut in dry in that someone is no longer alive, patent trolling would be so incredibly hard to pin as a crime. How could you convince someone that patenting rounded corners should be illegal when the patent office allows it, and where should the line be drawn. What sepertes a legitimate patent from a nonlegitamate patent, it's a very blurry line, and would be almost impossible to create laws on.
Except its semantic bullshit because complaining about Apple is a waste of time. You can "hate" Apple but sitting and bitching about Apple and not the patent office accomplishes nothing.
I just hope one day the apple fad will be over. Oh how I long to see that day.
That's like saying you're hoping the Microsoft fad will be over one day. They're pretty damn big and their products are everywhere, it's beyond a fad.
Except its semantic bullshit because complaining about Apple is a waste of time. Think of rich avoiding tax legally. A fine line would be something like a company that buys a patent and never ever uses it, aside from using it to sue people. and it is hard to regulate patenting, so it would be better to rebuild the system itself. as for the specific patent in this thread though I agree people hate apple so automatically bitch that they patented something excessively vague even though it doesn't look that vague. Apple however still sues way too many people to be normal however, so I can understand where they're coming from, even though they're basically taking a 4 sized earthquake and acting as if it's a level 8 quake.
that's why you hate the player and the game silly :v: Apples the one taking advantage of it, and the patent office is the one with their thumbs up their asses about it.
Thats what I mean about semantic bullshit. I'm not literally saying you can't hate Apple for abusing patents. But complaining about corporations trolling is like complaining about water being wet. It happens. Complain where it matters.
As long as your rounded edged rectangle has a function, then it doesn't violate Apple's patent here. So you can just say any ol' thing like, it displays our logo, or has holes in it to vent air (Even if it doesn't), etc But let me be the millionth to say: This is fucking retarded. Just absolutely, absurdly retarded
Geometry classes are fucked.

So you can just say any ol' thing like, it displays our logo, or has holes in it to vent air (Even if it doesn't), etc
I am sure Apple can fix that by throwing money at the right people
Hnnggg... Send Apple to the underworld.
how is it their fault if you owned a company and you were legally allowed to patent a rectangle you'd be fucking stupid not to
I wonder if you could patent the US Patent System, then sue the government, making them build a new one.
I'll patent the use of a system of lawyers that create unnecessary and broad patents, then sue Apple for every penny.
Already tried iirc
Dear Apple, I hope you die in a fire. Love, Etrius
What's next, they're going to patent the word patent, so that every patent discussion about them patenting shit they shouldn't patent will get them money out of patent lawsuits because of copyright for said patented word?
Do you understand how much trouble this post will get us into in the future? They will sue Garry for millions!
I'm patenting the entire English alphabet.
don't hate the player people, hate the game there wouldn't be any patent abuse if patents weren't abusable
'dont hate the player, hate the game' isn't a viable phrase when the 'player' literally damages everyone
Intellectual Property being more ridiculous, nothing new.
'dont hate the player, hate the game' isn't a viable phrase when the 'player' literally damages everyone
you have failed to read the patent

More like… NO problem! I’ve got an app for that on my iPad,” you say, pulling out your gigantic plastic calculator in the size and shape of an iPad. No one will be able to tell that you’ve just got a calculator, except you, late at night, awash in the tears of shame your fraudulent lifestyle has sown.

I'm patenting circles, and ovals. No-one can use them but me.
Patent for circular button to allow for interactions with a portable device. Then you can sue the fuck out of apple
you have failed to read the patent
okay? that's besides the point, you're saying it's perfectly okay to exploit the system as long as you've got the money to do it.
After reading this thread the word patent sounds so weird.
Soon you won't be able to even THINK about Apples or Rectangles without the thought police kicking down your door. They wont stop there, Apple will patent other fruit, and other shapes, no more Squares or Oranges, the world will spiral downward into chaos as all the fat rich men on Apple Island laugh and roll around in their bathtubs full of Fruit and Rectangles.
1.Make new knockoff iPad. 2.Round off all corners but one. 3.Make the last corner sharp. 4.Scratch the cars of ipad owners with the sharp corner on it.

Because a system with the purpose of legitimizing monopolies is going to encourage honourable behaviour amirite
Did you even read my post? I'm saying it's not okay, not that it wont happen.
I don't see how they can get this, even for just tablets. It's not novel, nor is it inventive. Making rectangular tablets itself is obvious, and rounding the corners is obvious as well, for safety and aesthetics. Look, a rounded rectangle on a tablet from 1993 Star Trek!
They'll make a time machine to go back into the past and sue them for that.
