Not again.
Getting better? Godus has bee a huge disaster in general.
lmao I didn't say his games are doing better, I insinuated at his overall well being which has been pretty shaky
I try to see Molyneux more like the game designer he wants to be and nothing else. He dares to dream extremely big and invests a lot of passion into any project and his given team regardless if the game is doing bad or well. I never played Godus, I remember looking forward to it especially with the formation of 22cans but yea it's sad as fuck that it was a disaster but nevertheless his creative spark and drive is what he should be alluded for. He's always trying.
I'm not saying that he doesn't fuck up projects because he most certainly does, but you can not possibly say he fucks up more than he gives
here's one insightful article btw http://kotaku.com/the-man-who-promised-too-much-1537352493 Tries to explain a bit on Bullfrogs demise and some on his quite varying behavior and how employees, staff viewed him for who he was/is
he's evidently very mixed, sometimes this incredibly nurturing and important teacher or mentor at the company to being the bitter executive promising too much and stealing the spotlight.
I'm not trying to say he's not "bad" or anything but really it's like bashing any person for x thing and then completely disregarding whatever good that has come out of said person.
Damnit.
They've made nothing but franchise RPGs for the last 10 years, I was really hoping they'd get the hint. Black and White would be a perfect title to revive in today's PC games market but since they are owned by MS they have to make games for the xbox
It's a shame neither they nor ea had any interest since you could greatly improve the interactions in the game and fix a lot of the functionality problems.
That game was great for the time, I don't think I've ever played another game where you can physically abuse your villagers and creature as a game mechanic to get evil brownie points

Molyneux is the George Lucas of videogames
Sometimes I feel like the only person that loved Fable 2.
3 was a tragedy though.
Bro Fable 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. 3 made me so heartbroken that I felt like my heart would never recover.

Fable 3 was complete junk, Fable 2 was great!
Molyneux is the George Lucas of videogames
Pretty much, he was great once, then given all the reigns, he sort of went overboard and lost all credibility
Sometimes these guys need a Gabe who can see their vision but also see the limits

Big Business doesn't make your founder lie every passing year and release increasingly shitty games by somehow managing to deliver less and less on the promises with each new title.

To be fair, He's a game designer and a programmer but that was a long time ago. I found the games that he did programming on like dungeon keeper were better that he later design that being said the games that he made like fable were great.
I don't give a flying about tree's that grow in real time that's not really something that effects gameplay, It's art.
Not sure but i think EA owns a majority of the IP's including Black and White and The Movies.
Pretty sure The Movies is owned by Activision.
Here's hoping Rare isn't next for the chopping block. Sea of Thieves looks decent but I'm still clinging to hope for a new Banjo.
The Fable series stopped at Fable 2.
It is amazing to me to see a company that KNOWS they have a good franchise or even two that thinks that getting bought by a full-of-sociopathic-smiles-marketing-department everyone-smiles-and-loves-you-here but-you-can-never-leave comany like Disney or Microsoft is going to work out for financial stewardship. We know from twenty freaking years of cannibalization that it never ends well for the employees.
Ever.
Sure the name lives on, and that one famous guy is still there making big ass face bucks, but everyone leaves as soon as the rotting smell starts to overpower the perfume and if the art department makes one more of that one fucking tree asset again someones gonna get it in the newly installed all vegan happy smiles break room.
It NEVER works out for the guys in the trenches unless the publisher actually gives a shit about the individual person at that desk, and how often does that happen? Also doesn't help when your design guru is a habitual liar and kind of a happy hippie sociopath.

When you sell a product and you lie about practically everything in it it's bound to be a financial and a critical disaster, which isn't good for your business.
I had no idea he was related to Bullfrog and Dungeon Keeper games
For those of you interested...someone made a DK clone as they wouldn't release the rights
Pretty much the same thing even down to the same voice actor for the demon
https://wftogame.com/
I can only hope this happens to Black and White ...what an amazing game but limited by tech at the time.
A god game like that today would be amazing ..im sick of every strat game being in the future
Sucks to see them go, but this is what happens when a game gets stuck in development hell for a generation and a half. It didn't help that Legends was retooled more than once either from a MMO to a MOBA-type game.
Another company ruined by Big Business.
Nah, they dug their own hole.
Great studio in its heyday, shame to see it go because I'll miss seeing that logo and name attached to things. They created some of my favorite games, Black and White and Fable: TLC consumed so much of my time during the 6th gen. Hell, I even enjoyed wasting time on The Movies and always wanted to see more titles like that.
The problem was this studio got sucked up into being the Fable developers for the Xbox and didn't diversify their portfolio when they had other successes to back them up.

Have we actually seen anything from Sea of Thieves since the announcement?

They mentioned late 2015 that we won't see new stuff for a while, but I've high hopes for it. A proper pirate game for once.
Yeah I'm hoping it works out. Pirates are a bizarrely unsaturated market when it comes to games.
RIP. It is time to die. Dungeon Keeper series and Black&White series were a big ass part of my childhood.
Man. Black & White 1 was a massive part of my childhood. Lots of good memories of that game.
sometimes i have to wonder what would have happened if the middle studios of the 90s hadn't been gobbled up by EA.
i mean blizzard was no different from bullfrog, westwood, or lionhead but they didn't get bought up instead they have WoW, SC, Diablo, hearthstone and tons of cool shit

Activision bought Blizzard years ago though
Activision bought Blizzard years ago though
Blizzard is a partner of activision, not necessarily a subsidiary of.
Activision bought Blizzard years ago though
They were both bought by vivendi but they aren't a publisher like EA, they simply wanted the stock dividend, and then activision-blizzard bought vivendi out a couple years ago, blizzard is its own publisher for all intensive purposes, they just share stock with Activision, which is a good match since blizzard can be a huge hit or miss while Activision has the annual CoD slice
Lionhead were responsible for some pretty fantastic games in the past, I loved black and white, and enjoyed the first Fable a lot. I feel sorry for anyone losing their job.
Three.
Three fantastic games.
Black & White
Fable : The Lost Chapters
The Movies
They never made games that were particularly fantastic, Fable 2 was shit and had missing features, Fable 3's story was braindead and it cut out alot of what made fable 1 great that was present in Fable 2 and once again so many missing features. Black and White 2 fell short of being good. They have a HUGE set of canceled projects, all the way from various PC and Console Ports to fully fledged games, with Justice and Survivor never making it past even the concept phase.
They found a franchise and milked the shit out of it but they couldn't innovate from that and expand their company and thus they are now closing. They never committed to completing another project that wasn't fable themed past 2007. So let's face the facts here, they were already going down this road a long time ago.
Fable 2 was pretty good though tbh, and Black & White 2 was good too, heck even Fable 3 had a lot going for it but it was just too dumbed down and filled with game breaking bugs.
As soon as Microsoft decided that Fable 2 would be a console exclusive, that's when Lionhead began going downhill.
