Why didn't Take2 just tell the mod devs to "implement piracy checks"? All this drama was unnecessary.

I thought this was already the plan from the beginning?
So the whole reason he got sued was by allowing pirated & banned copies to play together, nothing to do with sharkcards. GG guys on page 1-3.
That wasn't the case as the original FiveM required you to login using your social club membership, preventing piracy.
They removed that feature after Take Two started raging at them.
Well this is a surprise.
Seems like it all came down to one massive misunderstanding that should hopefully work itself out eventually, thats what it sounds like to me anyway.
Well I was gonna buy GTA V over the winter sale but nevermind. Fuck TT.

You had to login to social club but you could login to any social club, even if it never had GTAV in it's library.
NTA has to go to court next week and Take2 is suing on the grounds that they support piracy and make it easy for pirates to play GTA, but now these anti-piracy checks are implanted hopefully the case gets thrown out.
Take2 doesn't have a case, they will lose
Okay... WTF just happened first... it required you to have social club... Take Two bullied them, next everyone could play it without, take two did a C&D, now social club is back on.. and Take Two... kinda accepted that?

ya i thought thats the whole reason why they stripped out the social club

It doesn't matter if they have a case, Take2 can win this simply by financial attrition.

Not if the fanbase donates. If it leads to new legislation that would be even better.

Apparently they did, but NTA refused/didn't implement it by their deadline, so they served him. Seeing as the piracy checks were working right after then, I'm gonna guess he tried to call their bluff and failed. A similar thing happened between him and Activision a few years ago, iirc they weren't able to build a case, maybe he was expecting the same thing to happen.

There was no anti-piracy checks before, it required you logged into social club but it could be a social club that was created minutes before.
I'm also not sure piracy is the reason they went after him, they also shut down another multiplayer mod that hadn't even released yet AND the team said they had spoken to rockstar and they was fine. They never planned to support piracy and never did YET they still got shut down too.
Piracy is just the excuse Take2 are using to try build a case in court.

More like Take Two bullets to the temples.

There was a piracy check at one point before that too, but it caused crashes that no one could fix so they commented it out and left it with just "eh, log in you're probably fine" and that's one of the things that got him in trouble.

but are they?

You wouldn't believe how expensive legal battles can get, especially if you try making them so.
FiveM has been shut down 'indefinitely' again, last I heard was the preliminary hearing was coming up so this could be a result from that.
//UPDATE//
It looks like Take2 won in court? The project has been shut down "indefinitely" after returning for a short time with updated piracy checks. According to lead FiveM mod, NTA (lead dev) is not aloud to comment or discuss FiveM with anyone. The preliminary hearing took place late last week and we haven't received any words since then
NOTE: A related GTA IV multiplayer mod also got shut down (Same Dev) It looks like they have given him an injunction / C&D on all Rockstar/Take2 games. [This has happened to him before with Activision]
RIP FiveM
They didn't win in court they probably settled out of court because he couldnt really defend himself which is why he can't talk because he probably signed a non disclosure form
Expect this thing to stop working too because they probably have all the code behind it so they'll permanently disabled any hacks it used

FiveM didn't exploit any vulnerabilities. It doesn't work anymore, but that's because the servers are down.

They get greeeeedyyy.
Even Xcom 2 has "digital deluxe" shit that was probably cut from the game
The digital deluxe stuff is basically a season pass for future, planned DLC. That stuff launches after the base game. Jake Solomon from Firaxis, not T2, confirmed that they have not begun work on this DLC, and will not until the base game is finished. I'd trust him not to lie about that sort of thing, for what it's worth. The Resistance pack steam preorder thing is releasing on launch though. It's a small cosmetic pack, but yeah it's cut content bullshit.
